Canada Post lost $700 Million last year, mail deliveries not needed as much as before… If private corp, thousands of staff would already been laid off… it’s Postal workers don’t see or care this reality…

Canada post loses so much money because they used to deliver just letters, most rural post offices still sort their letters by hand. They have to update everything that deals with packages. They can’t make the money private delivery services do. They don’t upgrade and abuse their rural offices and communities. They will let them strike for as long as it takes, because the money they aren’t paying employees while on strike will pay for raises. Management in Canada post has to change. I know one rural area that they decided to make one postal code. Probably cost them a very large some of money to do this, and I was told for 4 years nothing but confusion in that office. They won’t change it back, because someone will look bad. Canada post has to update. Now I’m saying all that. Postal workers make pretty good money now, same as railway workers, container piers. They all want to strike to bring up wages because of our situation here in Canada. So the rest of us that don’t have those high paying jobs are gonna be able to survive the next few years. I know someone that worked at a post office for 14 years. For a year and a half work as the post master. Wouldn’t give her the job when it actually can to apply for it. They gave that position to a person that worked part time for four years at a different post office. This person didn’t know the actual job. The person I know had to train this new person. After she( new poster master ) was being trained, the person training, that worked that actually job for 1-1/2 years straight was put back to 15 hours a week. As far as I’m concerned they can close the doors to all post offices and use private companies. They are over paused as it is.

Canada post has not modernized. It has reduced it's level of service and it's convenience. Canada post only delivers 5 days a week, 9-5. It's outlets don't provide value-added services. Parcels and mail don't come directly to your door and are often redirected to depots or outlets with limited service hours. By contrast most last-mile delivery services now deliver 7 days a week 8am-10pm often with direct to door and one day delivery. Not only that but most of what does end up in your mailbox is now wasteful junk mail advertisers are paying canada post to deliver that just ends up in the trash.

I don't think it will be a big impact at all. The majority of parcels are already delivered by couriers like FedEx, UPS, DHL, and major online retailers like Amazon and Temu have their own delivery networks setup to bypass the ridiculous prices unionized Canada Post has.

This will kill rural people for the things they cant buy locally.

@@MyWayOrTakeTheHighway When is the last time you shopped at Amazon? They don't use the post office. In this very video they reluctantly admit the volume of parcels processed by Canada Post has cratered and been in free-fall for years. 4:20

Canada Post delivers to rural and remote areas like Tuktoyaktuk. Major online retailers won't ship there because it's not cost effective. Canada Post bears the brunt of delivering to the tough areas of the country. As long as you're okay with isolating fellow rural Canadians from the rest of the country, then yes, there won't be a big impact.

@@desmondliu9275 than that's what it should become and stay? If they no longer have the market share and volumes should tax payers pay for the same staff and services? Downsize to what their niche is now and move on, welcome to the digital age, layoffs ahead!

@desmondliu9275 Perhaps they will make Canada Post a more efficient service. For example, Amazon is starting to use drones. The problem is that people shot them out of the sky and steal the goods. But perhaps, Canada Post could have drones that scan the area and drop the parcel at night.

So, you have inflation, but fuel costs, living costs, and food costs are high for other reasons as well. Everyone will want to maintain or return to what they feel is the normal standard of living. That means wages need to go up when companies, big and small, have less stability and lower profits, or even losses. Doesn't that mean theres enough stress from different directions to ensure things will get a lot worse before they start to get better? I mean a crown company losing money for the sake of reliability qnd accessibility is one thing, but theres other strikes popping up and some are rather large and canada post can only lose so much before it gets crazy.
