Thank you all for filling in more gaps in my GSE Ellie history. It is always interesting to hear the back stories even if they are a hard listen 😮 (face kicking episode). Harder for you guys to witness though. 🤔👏❤️🏴

WOW! So interesting that captivity at the zoo brought out so much aggression in Guille. You had reported before that Guille dominated her mum Pocha but I didn’t realise the extent of it. Very happy to hear that it lessened quickly. I remember during those early days how Bambi and Maia used to play wrestle with Guille, or just plain not allow her to push them hither and thither, always with gentleness but firmly and I imagine that helped school Guille too. I particularly remember that all the elephants had gathered together around a muddy area and it was raining and Guille and Bambi had a tussle of heads and trunks and Guille kept trying to push Bambi with her backside but Bambi was having none of it and stood her ground, the Pocha who had wondered off a little way - probably for some peace and quiet leaving her daughter in safe hands, and then came back when it seemed Guille was getting just a bit ott and Guille immediately stopped and walked over to join her mum. It was a lovely rainy day. Tragically not long before Pocha succumbed to her accute illness that no-one had picked up during all the health checks undergone to enable them to be relocated from Argentina to Brazil. When sweet beautiful Pocha died suddenly Maia and Bambi then took Guille on, and here they are all this time later, a threesome, and Guille being such a good respectful and playful herd member.. Thank you for this very insightful podcast@

If humans were to disappear could elephants survive in the Amazon ecosystem?
@GlobalElephants15 күн бұрын
There's no way to say for sure, since they are native to Asia and Africa.

Do you guys plan to mix the bull elephants and let them mate and live naturally?
@GlobalElephants4 күн бұрын
No. The elephants, with the exception of Guille, are all elderly. Additionally, our sanctuary accreditation includes an understanding that we wouldn't do that.

@GlobalElephants oh that's a shame. That would have been a more interesting as a study and for the preservation of the species to see if they could thrive in the wild there.
