Wow! I grew up thinking "yeah, you're the only one" aha. I can't stand when people squeeze balloons or rub their hands against them to make a screeching noise. Or when balloons (rubber) are blown "too big" or placed near some type of light/heat. There's a feeling I just can't control.

I don't like popping. The key is being able to blow up balloons by yourself. Trust me balloons can get very big if stretched and don't pop. If you don't pull the knot tight. You can untie them.

@Evita Ender girl I later on life learned to distinguish between dislike and fear when younger you cannot. But now that I am older I realize the difference,. I hated 4th of July and New Years. I learned that I loved fireworks I just did not like the loud noise having sensitive ears. So I put in ear plugs that I could see and the sound was muffled. With balloons I handed out balloons at car shows and restaurants. 99% of the time they dont pop even when given to customers. If you love balloons but hate the pop that is totally understandable. I challenge though to buy some balloons blow them up play with them leave them inflated in your bedroom. If you don't inflate into the neck you will be find half tie them or tie but don't tighten into knot.You can then untie them. The key is that you are in control or yuo have someone that you trust with you. I'm severely globophobic. I get angry, emotional and even violent when inflated balloons are anywhere near me. Mylar balloons are fine since they don't pop loudly if you stick a pin into them, plus they're difficult to pop. Latex balloons are seriously horrible... my hatred for them is like 1,000,000 knives being inserted into my skin, it's horrible and terrifying. People think it's funny, but in all honesty, it really f***ing isn't. I wouldn't throw a spider or snake into your face and laugh as you cry and freak out, so don't chase after me with a balloon. I WILL hurt you because it's a very serious fear.

i'm fine with latex balloons by myself because i can like be careful and i wont like pop it r anything i can blow them fine by myself but not too much because im scared they will pop, if anyone else is somewhat near a balloon scares me so much even if they haven't blown it.

It is a very serious fear. Some so called 'friends' did this too me with a glove, just after I had calmed down, a walked into the room suddenly with an inflated glove. Yeah I hurt her - I kicked her in the gut. It was an automatic reaction.

Omg I understand your pain. When I was a kid, I would ask people NOT to bring balloons (latex) to my birthday party but you know that SOMEBODY. ALWAYS. does. Back then I had a ceiling style where the paint was made into tiny spikes (hated that) and if a balloon was let go (already anxious max) and the balloon didn’t pop and just floated on the spiky ceiling waiting to pop, I screamed and was full of rage as I ran into my room. Holding my ears down and just waited for it to pop or someone got it down. Everyone probably thought I was so weird but it’s so real to us with globophobia.

I have this phobia and it’s horrendous, I get nervous near latex balloons especially when I think they could pop. On instance, I was in a theme park cafe/restaurant with friends and a family holding two latex balloons was in there and I didn’t even get my food, I tried to stay in but couldn’t so I went outside like oh s, I later got my food tho. Globophobia is not a joke and if it seems funny to you, then f you because it’s stressful for anyone who has it.

Im globophobic and it is the Worst thing Ever, I have a cousin who is nearly Two and i had to attend her Birthday party And I walked into the kitchen and there were balloons there And i just Started sweating and Ran into the bathroom. Im globophobic too and i know to pain i remember when we have a halloween party at school and they decorated the hall and a glassrooms with ballons and it was a nightmare my classmate know i scared of ballons they decided to bring the ballons from the hall and they took of more from the celling in the classroom and they try to pop it and with scissor near me and throw it to me and i ran out of the classroom while screaming it was a horrible day oh and they started chasing me with the ballons in the outside i never forgive my classmates thank god im in middle school now

''will you hold it for me?'' passing the balloon in my hands I was shocked paralyzed with the balloon in my hands but I didn't say no so as not to be embarrassed by all my classmates so I held it very nervously then I passed it to her... and she was explaining calmly until she got angry with two of my classmates and started to squeeze the balloon with her two hands, while I was in front of her, I began to feel that ugly sensation in my stomach, I don't know if you understand me, but it's very ugly because it's a feeling that something bad or something ugly is going to happen and It feels very bad. I was about to cover my ears, but what I did was curl up on my bench with my thought of "it's going to explode, it's going to explode, it's going to explode at any moment." I felt so stressed that I wanted scream at the bottom of my lungs for it to stop but it she stopped... and it was such a relief that I took a deep breath and told myself ''calm down, calm down, it's over, calm down, calm down, you're fine, nothing happened'' until I calmed down but... my calm lasted a bit because the teacher needed to rub with something to electrify the balloon and well he told the classmate next to me to electrify it with his hair and well my classmate passed me the ''electrified'' balloon and I passed it to the teacher but she told us: '' noo because there the electricity was already lost in that movement '' then he told me I have to rub it again... in that act she take my sleeve (of my sweatshirt) and he says to me: '' can I? '' and he starts rubbing the balloon on my arm I felt horrible I wanted to scream and say I didn't want to but I was already paralyzed I don't know if I had a scared face I think not but you could tell in my eyes that I didn't want to be there the teacher didn't she noticed she just kept rubbing against my arm i was really bad she was holding my sleeve or my arm tightly while rubbing the balloon I was very bad until it finished "supposedly" or at least that was what I thought because the experiment did not go so well then the teacher proceeded to rub the balloon again against my arm this time harder and faster pressing the balloon much more against my arm this time reaching almost to my neck with the balloon rubbing it strongly '' I began to breathe fast and desperate I felt horrible as I felt that I was going to explode at any moment I made my head back a little so that if it exploded it wouldn't do it in my face... I felt horrible I closed my eyes waiting for the worst to happen I covered my right ear in a very sneaky way so that you wouldn't notice how horribly scared I was I felt horrible I wanted to scream and run to the bathroom because that is the place where I go to calm down when I am scared and upset there I calm down and calm down and I usually go where the balloons are not anyway not many times I have been able being there and I had to have a very bad time, well then everything ended and I calmed down as much as possible and well... my school the only thing that has helped is to worsen my fear History 2 bc yes : Well... I'm globophobic too but far not as hard as she. A balloons alone in their own doesn't bother me and I even dare blowing it up but I getting nervous when I see others are going to pop it. But it's same for petards, fireworks and other things can make loud explosions. But maybe that is phonophobia. In the other hand I can hear very quiet sounds like clock ticking 3 rooms away from the room where the clock is.

I have a terrible phobia of ballon too. But only the ballons. Fire works and other explosions no. Only ballons. I remember a fact that happen when i was 14. I walk down a park and a kid (he could have be 10 or 9) start to walk up to me with a baloon. I say to him to stop but he has not stop. One time, when I was very little, being blind, the very first time I held a laytex balloon in my hands, I made the mistake of curling my fingers around the edge of the laytex balloon, and my fingernails dug in to the laytex balloon, and it popped, then when that happened, it made me cry. Then, another time, I blew up a laytex balloon and while I blew it up, it popped. Now I can't inflate a balloon past a certain point because if I do, I get the very strong feeling bursting from inside me and the sensation that its going to pop. Its like feeling the popping sensation throughout your entire body. So I can totally relate to this. Hope this helps someone.

Good to know that there are other people who have this. My father and my sister would make fun of it. Just rubber and air squeeze it I’m not gonna squeeze something that feels tight and feels like it’s about to pop. Then when I was 12 the I’m invincible phase and I tried overcoming that by blowing one up that was not successful because it popped in my face. With my first guide dog who is now deceased her puppy raiser told me that she was afraid of balloons. Had a couple of balloon incidents a boy wanted to pet her need to quickly get out of that situation simply with that she’s working because she’s in harness she’s afraid of balloons I’m afraid of them have a nice day and then slammed the door to my apartment and locked it up quickly. They were waiting for an elevator apparently. And then balloons that you can hear further ahead connected to a pole or a sign connected to something. She came to a complete stop reached out couldn’t find anything with my hand or foot and I heard the balloons in the wind. You all know if you’re going to get nervous so is your dog. And they’re hearing everybody knows is a hell of a lot better than our hearing. Pulling out a few treats for her did the trick so she can bring me around and get away from them herself but I just had her guide with her leash around my wrist while I covered my ears. Then praised her a lot gave her the treats. Even when she was just hanging out having fun as a regular dog not in harness at a friends birthday or whoever and there are balloons there she would get up and pace around nervously. So after that I decided maybe I’ll leave her at home. I’m afraid of them and so was she. I guess we were matched very well. I hate them just like the Stephen King book it or the original movie from 1990 with the bloody popping balloons that I was able to see. Red is a color I can see pretty well I don’t like red balloons. It might be funny to other people out there but you all know it isn’t because you have the same fears.

At my youth group there was a girl who blew up a balloon to three times it’s max size and I literally ran out of the room and hid in the bathroom when I got back my uncle (Also the youth leader) put the balloon on a table and secured it with pool noodles. The table was behind my chair so I couldn’t see it. Later when youth group was almost over my little cousins came up from daycare. The younger one (three or four) probably saw this giant balloon displayed on a pedestal and while she couldn’t reach the balloon she could reach the pool noodle. I heard the pool noodle move and I turned around in my chair to see the balloon pop at the foot of my chair. I shot up, ran to the other side of the room, and started crying. No one really acknowledged that I was genuinely afraid of balloons popping and probably thought I was just being dramatic. Story two (which should probably be story one) My fear definitely started when I was four or five, I found a balloon that had already popped but could still be blown into, I had never been able to blow into a balloon so when I could blow into this one, I was excited. I hid in the bathroom (I have no idea why) and kept blowing into the balloon, it got bigger than my head and I was so proud of myself, I thought maybe I could make it just a little bigger and then it popped and I burst into tears. Since then I can’t even listen to balloons popping at a distance (I HATE balloon popping games) I can touch and blow up balloons so I don’t think it’s as severe as a lot of people, but I hate it regardless and it makes me want to cry thinking about balloons popping. God, I have this fear since I was in elementary or middle school and I have autism. Everytime I encounter someone with a balloon, I start to move away from it and close my ears just in case it pops. It's too loud for my delicate ears and heart, or else I'll break down crying. I can only notice it would likely sound like gun shots or fireworks. Actually not the balloons itself, just when they pop. Even doing stupid science projects with balloons sometimes.... God, so bloody irritating! 😠😠😠😠😠😠

I get anxiety attacks near balloons as well. One time during high school, there was an activity that involved racing to the other side with a balloon between your legs and the person doing it was going to hand a balloon to me but I refused and told them I was afraid of it and understood. I was standing outside just freaking out over the sounds of it popping and I couldn’t run away to somewhere else.

I think my fear of ballons grew on me from my trauma, when i was about 5-7 yrs old, my friend invited me on her birthday party, there's a clown who told us, the fastest person that pop a ballon by sitting on it and bouncing on it will get a prize, i was forced to do it. And no i couldn't pop the ballons even if i tried, I can't remember exactly what happened but after that i get easily scared of ballons.

I’ve got to where I can pick up an inflated balloon and put it in another room, but I’ll hold it at arms length while doing so. I still can’t blow one up though. I can play with one, but only nervously despite remembering playing with them happily as a small child. I used to cross the road to avoid a Chile with a balloon but that faded some 30 years ago. I blame a Christmas party when I was around 4 when the other kids started popping them. At that moment I wanted someone to stop them . I’m now 60 and they still raise hairs for me

Oh, I’m not the only one with this? I’m terrified of balloons. I don’t like them popping, or the sight of them because I’m scared of them popping. I sweat and start stressing out. I don’t like people blowing them up either. How it started: I was in the third grade, and I went to a birthday party. My friends kept putting them up by the lights and popping them. I hated the sound before that, but everyone started popping them in my face, causing me to hide under the table. Some kids were comforting me, and some of my ‘friends’ were putting them in my face and squeezing them to the point where they popped. Just the other day, I went to a restaurant, and was asked by a man if I wanted a balloon. (Btw, I’m 11) I said to my mom, “no,” but I was FORCED to get one, even though my fam knows that I hate balloons, but they don’t take it seriously. My brother got one too, and it was a sword, so he wanted to hit me in the face with it. My heart was racing, and my palms were sweaty. I started to breathe faster and faster. My mom said to stop, but he just kept doing it. So, when I went home, I gave him my balloon that had been made into a horse. And that’s my story!

I have fear of balloons that are shiny and almost see-through. It makes like a screeching sound that I hated. Once, my friend chased me with that kind of balloon all over the classroom, I almost cried. I almost shouted at her but I managed to hold it in. I was hesitant to talk to her at first but my anger went away eventually. That was kinda traumatic. I hope it won't happen again to me. People! Don't make fun out of someone's fear!

Its weird that i know this feeling. Today, I was outside going for stroll when the wind suddenly blew a little stronger and a kid's balloon across the street was blown away in my direction and i instantly covered my ears and shut my eyes and i just dropped in the ground, frozen for a second and when i calm down and got up people were starring at me and thats when i ran away as fast as i could. Welp, I thought I was the only one who was afraid of a balloon.
