Glock 17/19 better than Sig P320 for Military Contract

I think the use of the current sig models is a waste of taxpayer money.

The British Army, the French Army adopted the 17 as their official sidearm. It works.

The Glock pistol is used by Army special forces , Navy Seals , and the U.S Coast Guard because it works.

I snapped the trigger on a Sig320 and was impressed with the light amount of pressure required.. But I never bought one. Even now, with this availability of surplus police trade-in (S&W, Glock) pistols, I can't find a decent reason to bother getting a different (overpriced) system with different (overpriced) magazines. We truly are living in an age of plenty, and very few of us appreciate it. Thanks for another informative and thought provoking video. It genuinely makes me appreciate what I do have, just a little bit more.

I didn't get into Glocks until a few years ago. I do know that I don't currently want anything to do with a Sig P320.

I've heard to many credible stories about the 320s discharging while holstered. I won't ever switch from my Glocks, and S&Ws....

I agree. So many decisions made by our military seem to be political rather than what is best for our fighting forces. I don't love Glock, am not a Glock fanboy, but I carry one. It works.

Every Glock I've ever handled felt like a 2x4. The M18 with the small grip mod fits like a glove and the manual safety feels right at home.

The thing is feeling at home is not the priority for a sidearm, especially for duty use. Reliability is. The 320 has to many issues and sig has to much on the line to admit it has major flaws and needs fixing.

The thing everyone forgets about the MHS trials is that it stands for Modular Handgun System. Glock, in their hubris, submitted a handgun that was in no way modular and still came in second place. Of course there were some shady dealings, this is the government after all, buti still think they would have lost simply because they barely attempted to meet the requirements. If they had actually made a modular Glock that was able to change grips and calibers as easily as the P320 I think they would have won, and I think a lot of consumers would be really happy as well.

Everybody makes a big deal about the Armys contract for a handgun but when I was in the infantry the only person I saw with a handgun was are Captain. As far as the 'modular' thing goes to me that is just a gimmick. I say just pick the best pistol.

People forget,when Glock was first adopted by law enforcement,negligent discharges were everywhere,and that was before the internet became a thing.The 1911 was also hated by the military for the same reason.Sig is now an American company,American made,paid by American dollars, benefiting American workers,used by American servicemen.More regularization,REGULATED,it is part of the second amendment for a reason.These two contracts make all this possible...

I'mma put on my government conspiracy hat for a second, and what you're outlining with SIG, plus the revisions of the contracts to basically "outcompete" the competitors, really sounds like SIG has had some successful lobbying in the military branch rather than some straight up outperformance. That said, I really wanna try a few SIG ARs with the different spring systems, just to see how that works. Most of my experience is with bog standard HK416Ns, and that's suboptimal imho.

Glock lost the contract because they refused to meet the "Modular" requirement and didn't provide a model with a thumb safety which was also a requirement. I agree that the Glock is a better pistol. The P320 is only a good getting pistol when it get to the Legion level.

I think Glock did add a safety to whatever gun they submitted, but you are correct on the modularity, which really isn't that important. Sounds great on paper but in practice it has almost no use and shouldn't be a priority over reliability.
