Inherited my dad’s Gen 3 G17.. a great gun. He was a 30yr retired MGYSGT (USMC) and that was the gun he kept in his nightstand until he passed at the good age of 87. Boy, do I miss him. The G17, eats anything, and points like a good bird dog. I’ve done a few minor mods: lighter trigger spring, smooth slide release, and Trijicon sights. It now is in my nightstand and will be there until one of my 3 sons gets it.

Thank you for your dad's service my friend. Mom passed this year (2022) in January from covid 19, my Gen 3 17 was on her nightstand too at one point. I miss her dearly, but I know she's with The Lord now because she was and is a soldier in His army. Amen

@@gundeals honestly the only other gun(s) id prefer and/or rely on just as much are the SIG P22-series and the king (imo) HK USP/P2000/P30 and i would 100% take a VP9 over a Glock (if only because it makes it more affordable /w me owning a P30L and SK already, same mags, holsters, and I prefer the VP9 Match trigger to Glock-and their match trigger and others I've tried thus far. that said the Glock 17 gen 3 is what i carry /w the VASTLY overlooked Bersa 380 Combat PLus (16 round capacity, same size as a Walther PPK/S but double stack and some Beretta-esque improvements). I strongly cannot recommend trying a V1 LEM P30 strongly enough for striker-fired preferred-folk as you get a consistent pull every time out of DAO Hammer-fired pistol with a pull weight of 5-7 lbs (5 if you buy a $5-ish dollar light trigger return spring), and while I've never had a failure from my Glock, i have had failures from Glocks in the field on the rare occasion, can't say the same for any HK ive used and i definitely got more rounds out of my P30L than I do all three of my Glocks! (I highly recommend checking out a single stack Glock as a backup, Smith and Wesson Equalizer, oh the Glock 26 which can take all double-stack 9mm Glock mags and is a great sub-compact backup piece.) Also I think there's a strong case for the good ol' Series 70 1911 and almost beyond dispute the Luago Alien (don't deprive yourself of looking up that gun) is hands-down the best striker fired gun on the planet, but it better be for $6,000! And this is an aside but I'd take an HK P7 M8 or M13 or Walther PPQ5 Match Steel Frame over a Glock 17 as I'm not a sissy about the weight of my pistol! Finally, Colt Python, Smith n Wess 686, Chiappa Rhino (the "Glock of Revolvers" haha, in terms of grip angle) and Ruger GP100 .357 magnums as some of the best fcarry guns out there. Frankly, I'd be shocked if I ever needed more than a Chiappa Rhino 30DS with some spare moon clips. as for the LEM trigger? It might be the only trigger in which you have complete control of the takeup or riding the reset. You are the master of the trigger domain in that sense.

I picked up the Glock 17 Gen 3 yesterday. Took it to the Gun Range this morning. Great pistol . I was a little worried about it at first. I have small hands . I read about the 17 Gen 3 grips The groves in the grip people don't like.. I think it fits very well in my hands, no problems at all. They were very comfortable . Only shot 100 rounds . It's so hard to find ammo these days. I haven't shot my .357 .38 revolver in about a year now. Because of the ammo problems. But the Glock is Great. Robert A> Johnson

I don't think of it as unequivocally reliable, and I've seen plenty of videos of cops having minor malfunctions as well, but it's definitely as reliable as I need it. I disagree. The Glock 17 Gen 5.5 is superior and the flagship version, in my humble opinion. The new factory trigger, marksman barrel, ambidextrous slide stop, beveled slide & frame, front slide serrations, NDLC coating, flared Mag well and removal of finger grooves are all worthy upgrades to an otherwise perfect pistol. Mine came with Ameriglo night sights from the factory. I bought a Surefire x300 Turbo B for it and a Safariland holster will be coming next. It is my war hammer.🇺🇸

I only consider my HK USP Expert (well, soon to have, but often shot, and MK-23 HK Pistol) to be superior along with the HK P30-series (particularly LEM /w grayguns trigger and SRT especially but V1 LEM and a light LEM trigger return spring for $5 is fantastic as well). However, in terms of pure practicality in some fucked-up scenario where my Glock and I are on some apocalyptic trek or I'm back at war, just for the sheer amount of mods and cheap magazines it baaaarely beats the HK P30LS as overall-best-to-own between the two (however @ $600 for my P30LS, soon to be a Langdon Tactical LEM/SRT or DA/SA SRT with their extra-super-duper fantastic trigger job on top of the grayguns Trigger and SRT sears.....and seeing many new Gen 3 G17s go for $500+ still, though I got mine new for $400, the day my house burned down lol. My guns al lsurvived and functioned flawlessly, actually performing equally well as my Glock and HK P30-whgich btw in spite of 1100 degree fire that burnt my house to the ground, absolutely NO melting on the polymer, and virtually no wear and tear in spite of a house collpasing down upon them, though the RIA 1911's finished got a little cooked around the handle, fun fact: G-10 grips survive house fires!) Anyway, HK P30LS>1911s/2011s (Tie)>SIG P226/229/225/220 = Beretta 92FS italian models and 92X> Glock 17 Gen 3. In terms of practicality? Glock>HK>1911=Beretta 92FS For carry? Glock 17 all day, for my size it's very marginal between Glock 19 and im used to carrying

I see more and more police officers carrying the Glock 17 Gen 3 the Gen 5 that came out really doesn't make a big difference it's just more money that they put us stainless steel spring in there and a larger mag release and that's about it plus the front has serration sign it so you could slide it back you really don't need them in the front only the back it's just the gimmick it's one of the best guns out there Glocks been around for more than 20 years now you can go wrong with it I wouldn't waste money on anything else and you could get parts anywhere 💯👍

Agree with Gen 3 models is better and cheaper for LE, Glock generations model 🔫 are same just with a except with upgrades components only. Gen 3 is better for price and more components.

Ya Im not a fan of the front serrations on the gen 5 models that had them, nor do i like the cuts on front of slide rounding it....I sorta like the blocky front of slide...the nostalgic glock look ;) , I went on a glock spree for a bit so I got a handful of em, probably like the 10mm the best .

I have 3 glocks, g22 gen 4, g45 gen 5 and a G19 gen 3, that last one is my choice to go in my off duty days... the size and shape of finger grooves are perfect to my hands, additionaly the size of the slide and barrel do not disconfort me, picking in my balls when I carry at appendix... I do like my G45 as well because the slide size, and the trigger, who is in the gen 5 improved a lot, making the gun more accurate and soft to shoot... G17 and G22 are good for LEO service or military personal, is too big im my opinion for IWB carry in summer times, its printing a lot in a T-shirt..
