Love you and all your content and thank you so much for all the knowledge and time you put in so some us that don’t have the extensive knowledge of all these different firearms to learn some very useful tips. My only recommendation is the camera man/lady get some various angles. Other than that, keep it up and hope to see many more videos. I have 2 polymer80 940c builds if your interested in doing a match review with them. Fiber optic sights on one and rmr on the other so your “old eyes” should be able to do very well with them

I decided that I wanted a 17L after reading an article on them. The author was saying that shooting the 115 grain Cor-Bon JHP, averaged 1,502 fps out of the Glock 6.02 inch barrel. He (the author) said that was clearly into .357 magnum territory and that with the glock factory 33round magazines, this would be an amazing home-defense pistol. Now, whether that is all true or not, it sold me on getting one. But I figured that I would get one sometime down the road. Then the IPSC box rule was created and Glock said that they were going to stop importing them into the U.S.. I called a popular (and large) dealer that used to always come to the C&E gun show in Charlotte, NC (which was the only gun show in my area. I told him what I wanted and he said that he did not have one in stock and that he could call Glock and see if any were still in stock. About ten minutes later, he called me back and said that they only had two of them left in Smyrna. I ordered one of them. Mine is a 2nd generation model. I have never regretted ordering that pistol. The trigger was just so much better than the stock Glock triggers that I had experience with. That 17L actually makes me look like a good shot 😀 I see that Glock is now importing them into the U.S. again, both the 17L and the 24. But from what I've read, they are imported in limited numbers and I honestly prefer the 2nd Gen pistols to the 3rd Gen pistols, so I am glad to have the one that I have. If anyone is interested, do not hesitate to buy one of the Glock long slide pistols. Oddly enough, the 17L points more naturally for me, than the standard model 17 does. I've always noticed that all the different Glock models point differently for me. Has anyone else noticed this, too? Thank you, and sorry for the long post.

ColtDeltaElite10mm, I do appreciate the advice, and I agree, I would not use the 33 round mag for home defense. Though, I do have a couple.

ColtDeltaElite10mm, I do not think that you will regret buying one of these. They are great handguns. Good luck to you, sir.

Great video Patrick! What do you think of the extra slide length on the L? I love long slide-long sight radius pistols because of old eyes and the extra sight radius helps that but is it possible the L pushes it just a big too far? Also does Taran lighten the slide more than the stock slot? Keep up the good work.
@PatrickEKelley3gunfun9 жыл бұрын
I have always liked the longer sight radius. I ran a 24 way back when to good effect. Then I got hooked into Para's for a while and then back to Glocks. Then to light slide Glocks, and gave them up too. I much prefer the standard weight slides.
@CCW19119 жыл бұрын
Patrick E. Kelley I'm with you on std weight slides on most pistols, when I do a long slide 1911/2011 I lighten it to std 5" weight, all the good none of the other.

Wow that 17L seem to be as smooth shooting as a .22. I'm more interested in accuracy though, so how does it compare to the 34? "Bullseye before combat."
@PatrickEKelley3gunfun8 жыл бұрын
The 17L and 34 are comparable in accuracy. The longer sight radius helps the shooter to extract that accuracy better.

What kind of trigger is on this? You mentioned several times that it was incredible so I doubt it is the original Glock trigger.
@PatrickEKelley3gunfun6 жыл бұрын
Taran Tactical Innovations did the trigger work. TTI connector, trigger spring and striker spring will get you very close to this set up.

Awesome! Do you still like this better than the g17 with a sight block?
@PatrickEKelley3gunfun6 жыл бұрын
Both are excellent. The sight block lets you get 17L performance-plus, without having to scrounge around trying to fine a 17L!

I have a brand new 17L with several hundred rounds through. I am having trouble with stove pipes and failure to pick up the next round. I believe the slide is not going back completely. This happens frequently with all 115 gr. bullets. 124 gr bullets work much better but I still get jams once in awhile. I reload and stick to just under max loading. All the loads work fine in my plain ole 17. What am I doing wrong ? Thanks for your help
@PatrickEKelley3gunfun8 жыл бұрын
+George Baggitt Your assessment sound correct. Two things...next time out with the loads that don't work try gripping the pistol very firmly and if it runs I would install a lighter recoil spring (I would anyway as it improves the recoil impulse and return to target) I use a 13# ISMI spring and steel guide rod from Lone Wold Distributors. Or from Taran Tactical innovations.
@georgebaggitt19308 жыл бұрын
I did as you advised. The gun felt much better but still had the ejection problem but just with my reloads. So I did some deep investigating and came up with the solution. I was crimping the bullets way too tight. With almost no crimp I have yet to have a problem after several hundred rounds. I don't fully understand that but it works for me. The accuracy is visibly better too and the ejects all go to the same place. Thanks for spurring me on.

If you have 30 years doing this, WHY do you do a press check? Oh, that's right cause you want to look cool. If in 30 years of shooting you don't know that you chambered a round after you racked the slide, your confidence with a firearm needs some work.
