You sir are right! As someone who has been in LE at both the county and federal level for over twenty years , I am also tired of the endless caliber debate. The bottom line is SHOT PLACEMENT, it trumps anything else. These gun shop commandos would be better off mastering drawing their weapon of choice and getting rounds on target , than worrying about the caliber of their rounds. I have a GLOCK 42 and have put over 400 round thru it with no problems. I only have feed it round that wete 95 grains. I must say that this little GLOCK has become one of my favorite off duty carry weapons , second only to my GLOCK 27. Please keep making your excellent videos, they ate the best on You Tube.

Bought one last Friday ...... Showed it to a LEO buddy who had just came back from the Glock armorers course. He said that Glock was aware of jamming etc on the G42. He said run 300 round through it before using for concealed carry or backup. So yesterday I took it to my local range, clean out of the box . Bought Federal American Eagle and Speer gold dots and fired 300 rounds through the little piece of combat Tupperware and not one failure to feed. Flawless performance for the one I purchased in the first week of August 2014. Same armorer / instructor said the baby Glock was tighter tolerances etc ....l consider it to be well made and is a value firearm based on my own experiences with the little gem. As you pointed out, it is a great gun for pocket carry in warm weather or by smaller people. I am 5'9'', 180, and have a hard time with any of my other guns not printing. I much prefer my model36 for the .45, but I will most likely carry my model42 more just because it is easier to conceal and more comfortable. My .45 isn't going to do much good at home in the safe! As far as .380, it is better than nothing, and can stop an attacker with good shot placement. Besides, when you pull a gun, criminals just see you are armed. They don't ask what caliber or model you are carrying. Thanks for the holster ideas. Really like that leather pocket holster. Excellent advice about not holstering in your pocket too! I'm not the least bit concerned about being under powered. They rag on me about it but they still won't stand in front of it. Imagine that. As a Glock Wonk in my former Police Life. My duty and off Duty weapon were Glock. When the decision to go from a wheel gun to a semi auto my department met with the Glock rep. He related that the Glock had one issue. It must have a high quality round to avoid hangups or any other type malfunctions. He strongly recommended Fioci. This is all I use through my Glock`s. I have never had a malfunction. Also as I know Im preaching to the choir about a tight grip. Just thought I`d pass this along.
@hickok459 жыл бұрын
+Charles Williams The Glock Rep must have been a stock holder in Fioci. :-) I don't know that I've encountered any particular brand of ammo that Glocks don't like. Sometimes, an already light load might have a round that is "extra" light, such as Winchester White Box, and it won't be powerful enough, but generally they feed anything, in my experience.

The best rated JHPs that I've seen are the Precision One with the Hornady XTP bullet and the Federal Hydra-Shok. I've also seen Lehigh XPs perform well in the G42, and it is a really interesting bullet. Seems to cause more damage than even JHPs. All three of these bullets are rated to get really good penetration in multiple mediums, and the JHPs got really good expansion. The XP does not expand, but it has a very interesting + design that seems to really cut and rip and twist through the ballistic gel causing a huge wound channel and it gets excellent penetration without over penetrating.

Only difference is the safety vs Glock safe action- I prefer safe action. If they'd have come out with a higher capacity, or a 9mm, I'd be more convinced. M&P Shield ftw! Thanks Hickok! I love waking up early on Saturdays and watching your vids! Its like an adult version of Saturday Morning cartoons!

Glock 42 is my daily carry. I have noticed that with the Glock single stack mag guns that if you do not have a firm grip on them you will have feed failures...I have proven this on a few different models. My granddaughter shooting the Glocks was having many failures while the more experienced were not. I could cause failures by loosely holding as I fired.... Ball, hollow or +P a weak grip hold would cause feed failures....

That's the trouble I am having which is the second round failure to feed. But it seems to be getting better.

Underwood ammo makes +p 380 loads that have worked great for me along with all the different calibers I have tried from Underwood. I have had no issues with Hornady, Freedom munitions and silver bear in my glock 42. It has been perfect. I do advise the clip pinky extensions and the +1 mag extensions.

The thing I found out that the steel casings seem to have more trouble feeding through the ramp. Not all but some. My suggestion is polish your feed ramp if you want to use steel casings, just an opinion may not be the case LOL!

Thank you for the very informative video. I just picked up my 42 this week. When starting out, I had the same problem that you showed in this video, but I was using Federal FMJ. It was with the first 20 or so rounds. I lubed the gun and that seemed to help. I think it was mainly due to being a new gun and needing to break it in. I put 100 rounds through it and after lubing it, it was fine. Thanks again...also I LOVE your range and would love to have something like that in my back yard! :)

Picked one up last week for 530 added a 10+1rd full grip extension, i call mine the 42x. I own many glocks in different calibers and the idea of SD is something that doesn't over penatrate and dumps its energy in the target, anything over 4inches in the human body can be fatal, the whole 380 auto making someone mad If they got shot is bologna. 1 placed round to the heart, sternum, head, lung area, liver, your done. We are humans not tree, i pray i never have to use mine to test that. 600 training rounds so far and 100 hps ran through it without problems. Smoother then a 22lr, g42 for the dub on 380s.

i love my glock!! my husband got it for Valentine's day 😉 my very first pistol, at first when i was shooting i a problem with it jamming. my husband asked if i had a "weak" wrist (if i was allowing my wrist to snap back with the recoil) he suggested try not to allow the recoil to snap your wrist back as much, my last clip, 6rounds, shot with easy!! problem solved!! just thought I'd make this a note for some having trouble with jamming. hope this helped! happy shooting

I always carry FMJ for a .380. .380acp is not meant to be a hollow point although some companies have had success with them. This is a good reliability video though as far as the gun goes. FMJ is all I use because that's all our boys are allowed to use in the Military. Doesn't seem very fair that we can but they cant but several tests show FMJ .380 is the way to go with a carry gun. Thanks for the fun Hickok!
@travisp1111 жыл бұрын
Just make sure you know what is on the other side of your target. I'd recommend Hornady Critical Defense in the .380. It just meets the FBI penetration minimum from what I've seen and read online.

travisp11 ShootingTheBull410 does great stuff. I'm not a fan of .380 (even more so after his testing) but he's really thorough and found one round that would be reasonably viable in a pinch.
@MrMikesMondoVideo10 жыл бұрын
What? You carry FMJ because the military does? That makes as little sense as doing it because it’s not fair. You make no sense in those statements at all. As others have suggested, look for the .380 test ShootingTheBull410 has done. His methodology was good and the result surprising. In most cases FMJ would be the better choice for .380, but in his tests he identifies a few HP that are better choice, specifically those with XTP heads.

Thanks hickok as always... Also thanks for showing that recluse holster. I just ordered one last week after seeing it on your vid I got the TS solo the more square version. Its kinda costly but worth it to me. It appears to be the best on the market at the moment. I had a high grade stingray custom from ryan grizzly but even the best made designs print a little. The recluse is perfect. To me the G42 is the perfect pocket pistol and the recluse the perfect pocket holster. Perfection meets perfection. I love my G42 I carry half speer lawman and half gold dots in my G42 so I get best of both worlds if I ever had to use it.

CCI Blazer .380 ammo is AWESOME! $13/50 round box at my local Academy Sports and they get it in bulk about twice a week now. Never had a malfunction with it in my Diamondback DB380/Glock 42. I use it for my .380 carry ammo as well for extra penetration with the slightly weak .380 round. Can't beat the value/reliability on that!

I bought a Glock 42 as a carry gun. My 27 just gets too heavy to lug around all day. (back problems) My wife has a LCP .380 for almost a year. When we went to shoot my 42, she shot hers, and hated it! The trigger pull was terrible! It was rough, and she had to use 2 fingers most of the time. She shot my 42 and loved it. Put most of her rounds right in the center of the target!! I went right to the desk, ask if they had another 42, and they did, and bought her a 42 as well. I heard you say in your video about being easy to pull left with it. Well I didn't take note of that till I shot her 42. My 42 don't do it. Not sure whats up with that. I thank you Hickok45, your videos are very informative. Thanks for doing the videos!!!

As much as I really love Glocks, I have chosen to go with a Sig P238 instead. But the real question is where has all the hollow point .380 AUTO ammo gone? I haven't found it anywhere.
@FFLL21125 жыл бұрын
Just Now.. hard ball tests better in .380 bc not enough thrust behind the round to create proper kinetic energy for the hollow point to be fully effective. 9mm is a much better self defense round and cheaper. .380 does NOT reach the FBI specs required for a self defense round. Love Glocks but this gun is not ‘ideal’ for self defense carry

I had my G42 both stove pipe and or jam using all sorts of ammo. Then i realized i hadn't hit the 500 round break in period i give every gun. I walked around the house with an empty pistol and racked the slide quickly about 100 time a day for a week. it takes about 15 minutes a day. I did this instead of shooting $250 worth of ammo. but after that week never had another problem again....Break it in Baby!!!
