Fun Fact: The sound of the enemy soldier's death scream was actually ripped from the movie Aliens, it Bishop's scream when he is killed by the Queen
@OpenMawProductions5 жыл бұрын
Most of the sounds are ripped from aliens. Ammo pick up = Hicks shotgun. The death screams are Bishop, Wierzbowski, and Dietrich. Drake's death scream is used for one of the monsters. Robots make powerloader sounds. The door opening sounds are from Aliens as well. Even the design of the soldiers look a lot like the USCM uniforms. I'm honestly shocked there wasn't a law suit.

@@OpenMawProductions hah yeah I was just watching this video I didn't realise until now they just took all the sounds straight from the Aliens film. I think in reality the 1996 Amiga A1200 030 community was fairly small so probably not much point in suing, or they just slipped in under the radar.

@@fnizzle8805 What system was commodore downfall, Amiga was not the problem, Irving Gould and Medhi Ali was the downfall of Commodore. The Amiga 500 was a huge hit, and many millions were soled same for the Amiga 2000 in the movie/sound business, no other PC came anywhere near the power of the Amiga with graphics and sound in the 80s, the Amiga 1200 would have soled much more if they did not have too short Amiga 1200 when he came out. I can clearly see you know nothing of the downfall of Commodore and thus the Amiga.

When the professional companies jumped out of the sinking Amiga ship after the Commodore's demise, the scene was left to brave amateurs and the demo scene groups and you get this

It was actually a great game, not one of the shoddy games despite being the only commercial game series released by this company (Black Magic. They made Gloom for A1200 and CD32, and then Gloom Deluxe). This was one of the best games on the Amiga, a very fun game.

Why does this look way smoother than it does on my A1200 with ACA1233n-40? I can't get even close to that frame rate unless I make the screen tiny.

Lovely playthrough and great game. Always liked the 1x1 mode so modern accelerators (or rich people in the 90's) can enjoy the full experience. Wish AB3D had got a similar Deluxe version.

Definitely a step up from the ill fated Commodore Amiga CD32 version that’s for sure.

What is this running on? Emulated I take it with an accelerator card. On an A1200 it looks and plays nothing like this. Great game though, even though FPS was not Amigas strong point. Behind the Iron gate was the fastest FPS game on the Amiga and even ran on my stock A500

Catastrophic Doom clone exactly like "Fears" and "Alien Breed 3d". The Amiga was simply not made for that genre.
@tobiassoderlund70984 жыл бұрын
Hunter S If anything Gloom is a clone of Wolfenstein 3D, and quite a brilliant one. With no quick saving available the levels have to be well balanced to provide a good sense of progression, which they are, and the game controls perfectly well with a CD32-pad even on an Amiga with the shoulder buttons being used for strafing. Overall the game has a very consoley feel, good enermy placing and interesting level design. Playing the campaign co-op is also great fun. I honestly can’t think of one single Wolfenstein 3D clone doing things better overall than Gloom. Alongside Doom and Quake this is one of those early fps experiences I just have to keep coming back to every now and then. Oh, and as far as Gloom and Gloom Deluxe goes I prefer the original Gloom with lower resolution over the Deluxe version. The giant pixels and messy attityde paves way for a colourful explosion of action on the screen. Quite nothing like it, really.

It's a very primitive FPS clone. Bad level design, narrow gateways, idiot enemies, dumb gameplay. The graphics also could be better. The sounds from the Alien games (like Alien Trilogy) also doesn't improve the overall effect. Maybe it's slightly better than Wolfenstein 3D (1992) but this is all.
