That "look behind you" note is a bit of a joke at the AI's expense. The table you find it on is guarded by two guys with their backs to the player. they don't move unless alerted. They should have followed the note's advice and looked behind them.
@DuranMK2
@DuranMK2 2 жыл бұрын
That's actually kind of genius. It's pretty natural to assume the note was meant for you as the player, so it's a good shake-up of that old horror bit that it's actually for the mooks standing at the table and you're the scary thing behind them.

A lot of it is just... realizing that so long as it's visually *good enough* to convey what it needs to convey, you don't need a huge team to make something great. I imagine release schedule for content will be a lot faster than one would think given how long it's taken to get this current build. They're basing releases off what content would be appropriate for a 1.0 launch, this means polished to a release state. The devs have mentioned how large the actual game world will be and that many of the districts are well on their way to being finished. They also were thinking of delaying to drop the early access closer to christmas with both the market disctrict (First area in the city) and the tavern full accessible. This tells us that we'll be getting our first 2 major content patches before the end of the year. Game development is non linear, at least in regards to how we consume a game. A lot of the mechanics and systems we have now have set the basis for a lot of other things to come along much faster since mapping and decorating things is the one of the fastest sides of the developement process. AI will also be a lot smarter later into the game. The enemies we experienced in the current build are tailored for a more tutorial start of the game setting, they're not as smart as they will be later on as a means of easing us into the gameplay.

Two things I'd like to bring up to alleviate some concerns about release timing (hopefully it helps that is): One is that mechanics aside from some much needed AI work all seem to be in place and sit well with the world, and what they're apparently mostly focused on is maps, models, and sounds. Massive parts to be sure, but the progress they've made since the demo is pretty remarkable and says something about the rate we can expect to see new content. The second point is about the demo area itself, was almost assuredly built as a proof-of-concept one off experience to, well, literally demonstrate stuff, doubtful that area will exist as a singular cohesive location in the game, we will probably see parts of its varied style pop up over the whole product. Seeing this much come out after 2 years in its current state leads me to believe they're sitting on another hour or two of release-candidate content. Just wanting to take that extra time to 110% polish things up (maybe give the AI a bit more depth) before another drop. A lesser team would've taken that demo area and built on it for early access if they were more focused on getting a game out the door. The sort of people who operate like that (potentially just tossing all the demo content as far as we know right now) are usually impressive developers in my experience and are passionate about their vision. I'm open to being proven wrong, but saving my concerns about a dragged out development cycle until the first update (and how long it takes)

This game has really big potential if the developer listens to feedback, because it does have quite a bit of issues and short comings. The mains ones being AI is really lacking and the shadows being way to black, you should be able to gain vision in the darkness and see a little bit, shadows arent supposed to be black as coal. The AI should be more aware of the environment and if doors are open or closed compared to what they were or if stuff has been moved around.

A part of me kinda hopes the Limited saves becomes a seperate option from the difficulty lvls. In the Gloomwood Demo, Bloodmoon made ammo so rare you would require all Shotgun shells and Bullets to kill the Crowbasatrds in the sewers... especially in that one lvl where you need to deal with 5 of them in near pitch darkness. Being able to save alot in the sewer sections was a blessing to say the least. While I agree the could update the game onwards to include more areas, im honeslty fine if it takes another 3 or 6 or 8 years for the game to be finish, so be it, i rather a well polished completed game then buggy mess with an unsastifying ending.

Problem with immersive sims is that, unless you make them tightly linear like M&M Dark Messiah, they take a lot of effort to flesh out levels. With Gloomwood you notice that the first area (the starting building) is extremely complex. When you get to know the building you can take shortest path and skip every enemy if you want but you can also spend hours exploring and messing with the enemies. Now compare that very first area with rest of the 'early access' levels and they are much more simple. I really hope they keep the level of detail in the level design they have in the first section instead of rushing this out.

A much more balanced look at the game than what worth a buy did. I liked it so much that I'm replaying Thief and playing Dark Corners for the first time.

LEs than a month and a half later, I think, and they did implement a limited save, so that's neat. Blood Moon was a bit annoying on my one playthough with it but the save thing is something I'll be using in custom difficulties when that releases.

Reminds me of Dishonoured, in that you should stealth it but you don’t have to and you get plenty of tools to help you if you don’t want to. Both games also have great and distinctive art styles.

Regarding your comment about limited saving, that is actually planned. The highest difficulty is going to require you to use wax cylinders if you want to save your game, similarly to how Resident Evil requires you to expend Ink Ribbons. Also they're not going to give you any easy ways to knock enemies out instead of killing them, since that would make it too easy to avoid attracting the Corpse Duster.

I LOVED the demo, bought it on release day and now that Ive watched this, I think i'll wait for my first playthrough for when they get some more levels, cause this is a game I wont be able to stop playing once I get into and I dont want to be cut short as the game isnt complete yet. I just hope like Gman said, they dont take FOREVER to finish this game. We need more Thief-like games!

Great review. The lack of HUD is exceptional and very refreshing. The Dev has made the player character way too powerful, he made the same mistake and the Dishonored series unfortunately. This game could be almost perfect but only if they make the player character vulnerable to add tension and challeng, oh and also remove the glowing vision cones from the enemy eyes. It would benefit from taking more influence from Thief 1 and 2 rather than Dishonored.

You know what i hate about all these games? I hate how they been released! I mean, they got released in early versions, and then you have to wait for unknown amount of years to, finally, play those games. Like, seriously. Wrath: Aeon of Ruins is still there, and it was like 4 or 5 years already, since it has been released in early version, and we still ait got $hit. And that is what i hate about modern video games the most. Cause, why not release a full version of the game, instead of giving us this, unfinished piece of it? WHY??? Just finish your game and then release it. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so! Thus why i will not even bother playing it. I rather play something that is finished, or something cool and old, than this. p.s - I would give you even more things, why i hate modern video games, but then my comment would be so huge, that it would broke KZbin's servers.

@@IAmDaDumb1 Notice that i didn't talked about Dusk. I was talking about the most recent games, that looks like a retro fps games, but is not retro. Like this one here. Also, in early version, Dusk had like two finished episodes, and by the time it came out as a full game, it was almost finished.
