One of my most favorite songs from Gloria during this time before her tragic accident that derailed her career for about 2 years. This was 1989 and it was my first year in college here in the Philippines. But this was a year in turmoil, there was a coup during December and I listen to this song after the horrors of that bloody coup which left several dead and scores injured and a lot of buildings damaged.

Yes, of course, the breakthrough was made in the 50s and 60s, but the digital age began in the 90s, and it has been expanding since the early 2000s. This is also felt in music, electronic music is dominant today. The creative crisis in art arose about that time and it all comes down to recycling the past. It seems to me that pop culture is cyclical and repeats itself every 20 years - in the 90s was a strong influence of the 70s, and during the 2000s there was a popular fashion from the 80s. That was the first time I saw clubs organizing evenings dedicated to the 80s. The 90s have been popular over the past decade, and I’m afraid we won’t have anything to recycle during this decade. I am from Serbia (ex-Yugoslavia). Some very ugly things happened here during the 90s, but even in such circumstances there was a strong scene. New wave music especially exploded here in the 80s - according to the New Musical Express (NME) our scene was the best in Europe after the UK. Yugoslavia was never a classic communist country, nor did it belong to the Warsaw Pact, we could travel freely around the world, and Western culture wasn't banned here even in the 50s, and the first punk bands were founded already in 1976, the first behind the so-called Iron Curtain.
