Myofunctional Therapy is critical, as is suturing after the procedure. Be sure you look up a Myofunctional Therapist who has taken the MyoMentor Program with Sarah Hornsby recently, or our MyoMasterminds Program as they will for sure be familiar with the safest ways to perform myofunctional therapy both before, and after the procedure to optimize healing, results, and minimize chances of over stretching and popping sutures or causing more pain by over stretching.

I had mine revised yesterday and while numb on my hour drive home, I sang the entire way. I found my vibrato was more genuine and my chest voice was a lot more comfortable and of a bigger range before I flipped to head right at the top of my range 👌🏼

@@farooni It depends on your dentist, dental insurance, and medical insurance. The actual procedure itself I think is $1,300, but with X-rays, sleep tests, myofunctional therapy, etc it can cost up to $10,000.

Thanks for your question, we generally do not suggest glossectomy, because we have found that tongue-space issues can usually be addressed more conservatively with expansion, myofunctional therapy, functional frenuloplasty etc. If you can avoid removing parts of your tongue/body, we feel it's worth exploring those options first when possible.

I have a wicked tounge tie . No speech problem but I'm 23 and recently I've had issues. I go from being fine to feeling like I'm instantly choking . Got a doctor's appointment Tuesday . May not be related to tounge tie but I have trouble swallowing as well and I have to sleep in certain positions to feel like my throat is open .

I had my release done today. I have less tension in my head neck & shoulders. I also had problems with not being able to chew and swallow large things like meat. I would get choked and sometimes bring it back up. I’m in pain trying to do the exercises. I think it’s a little to soon. Hopefully everything will continue to get better. ❤

Hello, I know this is 2 years old now. When I was born, the doctor told my parents I was tongue tied but he did nothing about it. My brother was born a year later and he was tongue tied as well, but his doctor cut it at birth. My mom told me she thought I had cut it by getting it caught between my two bottom teeth, but I am still tongue tied. The worst feeling I get is the pain around it if I were to try to stretch it too far. Yes, I have had trouble with the R and L. I cannot say rural or cellular. I had never known that it causes sleep problems.

Hey guys, this video is pretty useful as it shows progress everyday. I'm on Day 4, and I still cannot put the tongue on the roof of my mouth by opening mouth wide. I remember just after the cut it felt really good, but after stitching, it became how it was before. Is this normal?

Thanks for your question. Wound contraction is one of the phases of wound healing. With properly supervised orofacial myofunctional therapy pre-and post-procedure, you will achieve and retain the best tongue mobility results! Is Myo a part of your healing process?

@@TheBreatheInstitute I've just enlisted the help of a local (Zaghi trained I believe) Myo. My lower jaw did come forward, but the maximum comfortable stretch doesn't touch roof of my mouth.

@@Kbgoda1 i am in exactly the same situation as you are i'm at day3 after the procedure and i feel like i havent actually gained mobility i can't touch the roof of my mouth when i stretch and when i stick my tongue out it doesn't go out further than it did before the surgery . Did it get better for you after the myo ??

Sometimes it will heal right back shut as it was before, mostly if you’re not doing your post op exercises or myotherapy. They mention this in day 10 of the video.

Hmm, sorry to hear you are experiencing this. Losing some sense of taste may indicate that your release provider went a little too deep and nicked a nerve or other anatomical structure that they should have avoided. Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Our protocols at TBI ALWAYS involve pre-and-post operative myofunctional therapy. This promotes optimal results, as without, many cases can scar back down, and indeed ultimately become worse than before. Thank you for the video. I got my posterior corrected on Thursday using the procedure that requires snipping and not laser. I was beginning to feel worried because it seems like my tongue is shorter and has less mobility and I feel like most of my tongue that was released is in a separate lump below my tongue. But I guess that’s the swelling and granulation. Hopefully it heals properly and I’m looking forward to being able to eat and move food around a lot easier and not having to down 2 glasses of water with dinner because I can’t move the food properly.

What are the manual stretches? I don’t see a myotherapist but I was given some stretches by my dentist to do, such as “cave suck” and moving my tongue certain ways. Are these the kinds of stretches you are referring to, is it something done with your hands, or is it something entirely different?

@@CharteredMates Over time I was given more stretches to do, both before and after the surgery. The key was being consistent with them. I never struggled to talk besides the very first day, just because it hurt. Now my tongue is fully healed.

Definitely not, in fact licking an icecream cone is a good stretch for your tongue. If it is difficult to do so however, it can be an indication of a possible tongue-tie.

@@TheBreatheInstitute thanks! no my oral surgeon didn’t mention anything like that. i’m doing good now though. the tongue tie is definitely still there though, apparently it was really like deep in the muscle so the doctor didn’t really clip it all. i don’t notice a big difference but it’s fine now.

You can eat the same day as the procedure even, but we recommend taking it slow, and not eating crunchy, or hard, spicy foods etc. Avoid things that you would't want to get in a paper cut.
