We purchased an Amazon flute for my daughter when she started band in 6th grade 2017. Fast forward to today 6 years later it finally gave out. We did maintenance on it after each marching season and it even took her to 1st chair district band. She named it Eleanor. So Eleanor is retired now.

I purchased a glory flute for my daughter when she first started playing the flute in fourth grade she’s now a junior in high school, and she’s been using the same glory flute. Today one of her bandmates dropped it and I have to replace it only because of the drop. It really was a great flute and all of her band teachers have always been shocked at the sound quality.

I played years ago, and thinking of getting one. Was in a high school band and used their instruments. A relative gave me one on loan, which I used for over a decade, but eventually wanted it back for another family member. I had the pads replaced and had an electric pickup Which I included when I returned it to the owner. This flute in your video would be occasional instrument to take out to play. My wife likes to sing, so this would be a way to include myself in that interest. Great review.

I was looking to pick up a new instrument at the beginning of quarantine and ended up picking one of these up and learned the basics on it. It worked pretty well honestly, though I upgraded after a few months and found it much easier to play in the upper register. For the price, if you have realistic expectations about what you're getting, I think these are pretty neat.

This is proof that mass production is the king of just about everything we buy and own. Now one can buy the best and most costly of anything, some things as with most things are over priced. I don't see with flutes how they need to be more than 1k for a good one. There is a jazz flute player in my area here in Detroit and she is amazing along with being a great sheet music reader of any style she said "I never pay more than $1700.00 for a flute even though I can afford to.

I have to say that this one did not sound like that - although it was good - probably because of your skill which pushed it somewhat. Good review. One guy on the internet said to people you have to pay a $500+ to buy your first flute. I totally disagree with him. Not only is it expensive esp. if you do not stick with it, its a waste of money. I never bought very expensive instruments and they have stood the test of time, i have piano, guitar, drums, trumpet and now the a flute. Of course at the start of musical learning i got a really cheap guitar, wrong size and just a bad guitar £30 any one. It looks good on the wall the though. I then got a C40 classical guitar for £85 over 11 years ago which is worth £124 now. The guitar was and is brilliant and i still have it. i did get an encore electric guitar set which is ok to start with. I eventally got an epiphone guitar which looks great, poor finish, damn neck heavy. What that means the guitar will drop down from the guitar head stock as your trying to play it. I had to varnish the guitar to keep the finish. The electronics were great though but not the tuners. I then got ibnez grgr221pa-aqb gio guitar. Damn thats a long name. This is the best guitar ever had even (though i did the like the fender squire cheap knock off in red). I have a yammaha accoustic which i bought off ebay and that is a fantastic guitar, plus a12 string guitar that guitar is great, lovely low action and nice sound. Also i have a gear4u piano which is fantastic for the price. The drums were cheap but with a good drum speaker it sounds great. All are basic instruments along with my student Bb trumpet. The problem with brass trumpets you have to keep oiling them or the valves get stuck or rub- and they dent easy ( did that to my trumpet grr). I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy my instruments and my kids get to use them if they wanted. Oh i have ukeleles too which my son loves.

After 25 years of not really playing my flute much (after seven years of playing it), I decided to just have some fun as well. I picked up four Artley flutes from the Elkhart time period (mid 50's through the mid 60's for these), and I'm going to play with them a bit, then see what it takes to re-pad. (If I'm successful with more than one, I'll donate them to a school). Frankly, that Glory flute doesn't sound any worse than the average 1980's Gemeinhardt flute. I don't want to think about the repair costs. Still, with the cost of rentals, even if you _replaced_ it every six months, you might be ahead of the game.

@@LanceSuzuki theres also the part that students in something like a marching band typicaly don't want to use their nice horn (in this case a flute) so maybe a Glory flute might be a great marching flute. Marching bands typicaly wear gloves for marching, and are most common in white (explains the color). They are also wearing gloves to protect the outside of the instrument from all that sweat and dirt on their hands, which especially comes out when one is running around a football field or doing a parade in the hot sun. From all the videos of "cheap" instruments the outside of these instruments aren't very good at keeping their laquer or coating, so the gloves prevent it from fading as well. Is this a better option compared to an used Selmer for $50?

Thanx for the validation on my Glory flute purchase! I played for some small audiences ....they liked the sound! Plus I did practice diligently!Only one question...I can hit the high C. I can play low D flat ..but I can't seem to play low C....any suggestions? Any adjustments needed?
@LanceSuzuki3 жыл бұрын
Hi Curt, It's hard to say without seeing the flute. However, my first guess would be that the Low C-C# connection might be off. Unfortunately, this is one of the connections without a screw adjustment. It is not easy to adjust without taking the footjoint apart, so definitely best left to a pro technician. Sometimes if you press on both the C# paddle and C roller (rather than just the roller) it can make this better. Good luck! Lance

The gloves are for band in high school I have to use them when I preformed for high school band
@LanceSuzuki4 жыл бұрын
Is it harder to play with the gloves on?
@katiethompson14064 жыл бұрын
Lance Suzuki yes it really slippery and it makes me feel like I’m going to drop my flute. But my director used to let us cut the tops off so we wouldn’t drop it.
My beloved gemeinhardt needs new pads, the flute is 20 years old and has been greatly loved 🥴. Looking at options of buying a new flute or new pads. It’s for a little community band I’ll be in.

Sometimes the old Gemeinhardts can be great. Other times it is not worthwhile to try to repair them. These cheap flutes are a good temporary solution but you probably want better quality for playing in band long term.

Thank you for sharing because of your awesome video I will be purchasing this flute I wanted to ask how do you clean this Pacific flute on the outside with its material so it will not rust or anything like that
@LanceSuzuki Жыл бұрын
A clean microfiber cloth is best for cleaning the outside. I list a good one in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKexZYagerCBfLc

I did purchase this one from Amazon. After the first 8 or 9 hours of practicing, not all at once lol, one of the little rods that holds the upper pads came loose and the rod was moving, which resulted in off seating of the pads and no sound. I need to pay $50 for diagnosis and then I don't know how much for repair. This would be almost the cost of the instrument. I really want to play as I volunteer my time. Should I invest $500 in a nicer instrument or pay to get this one repaired?

Get a new one, if it does break apart, just get a better quality one, just a suggestion, but, I cannot control you.
@moni519483 жыл бұрын
@@xhibisha I did purchase a nice one from a reputable music store. I just wanted folks to be aware of what they were buying from Amazon. It did however, last me for 3 years. I am very happy with my professional one. Thank you for your input. :)

my first teacher told me to buy a $200usd flute. It is fine at first half year, after that i cannot play lower c d e f , and very hard to play any note. I thought it is my problem because I was a beginner at that time and it sometime works. this situation lasted a month and my second teacher (the first teacher is a really bad teacher she teach one page each lesson and play smartphone at the rest of time) told me to buy a new flute (~$800) and all problem is solved. using a cheap flute is not only waste of money, and also waste of time, and also waste of the lesson fee ($38 each lesson, $38*4...). at that time I thought i am not able to play good sound even though I have pay much effort and time to practice and I almost give up..

The problem with cheap instruments is that you need to be good at gambling... sometimes they will surprise but they will last for a short time like it happened to my first flute... it lasted some couple of months with constant adjustments until the flute died...

what about who are lefties? is there any other version for lefties?
@LanceSuzuki2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure about other types of flutes around the world but, at least in the case of this type of flute, there is only one orientation. Both hands are used so I don’t think the design necessarily favors lefties or righties.
