Thank you for your video! I recently purchased this flute from the Vangoa website. I'm a beginner and didn't have the option to rent a high-quality flute, nor could I afford to spend a lot of money on an expensive one. I also wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to commit to playing the flute, so I opted for this choice. Based on what I received, it seems they’ve slightly improved the issue with the keys not sealing properly, and now there’s no gap, which I think might be thanks to your video as well. As for durability, everything’s been great so far-I haven’t encountered any damage. Additionally, their website mentions a 1-year warranty, which is reassuring. My advice: buy this flute if you’re in a similar situation to mine. However, if you have the opportunity to purchase or rent a better flute, I’d recommend doing that instead

Thank you for reviewing these lower end flutes. I am currently looking to see if would be a viable option for me, so I’m not ready to shell out a ton of money on an instrument I may not be able to physically play (Career related shoulder/nerve issues). If I can do it great, I have something to learn the basics on. When it breaks beyond the point of my being able to fix it or I just can’t play it, I can turn it into a piece of art.

Just for the fun of it I got a Nuvo bright blue plastic flute a few years ago. (It's surprisingly playable, and is GREAT for taking out in the woods or to the beach. And if I drop it in the creek, no harm done. It even got baptized in the Jordan River with me.) Its interior cleaning cloth is similar to the one in this video. Also, from time to time, I have, with my good silver flute, put a couple of inches of the corner of the 100% cotton bandanna I've used for years through the hole in the tuning rod, and then (carefully!) dropped the rod down the inside of the flute body and then pulled the bandanna through. Of course I can't use that method on the head joint.... That Bizet piece was our high school band chair audition piece in my sophomore year. I aced it; landed in second chair. A real blast from the past.

I really appreciate the evaluations. I started with a Buddy, then a Gminheardt (sp), shb and now a Pearl (about $3000). I have and still do very much enjoy playing the flute. I played recorder quite a lot from age 20 to 55. Then started flute. Now 78 and still play quite a lot. I am self taught and prefer improvisational playing. Contemporary popular music, jazz and Rock. I think I will get the Vangoa as a back up. I am a music major, percussions and vocal. I taught drums for many years. And by far the single biggest variable on any instrument is the musician, not the instrument. You made those flutes sound beautiful. A really good drummer can make a drum set made from plastic tubs and pot lids sound better than a $10000 drum set played by a mediocre musician. Do you do internet instruction? Again, thanks.

@roadboat9216 You're an inspiration. I'm 55 and I've started practicing tenor recorder again after a break of about 40 years. I studied oboe for a few years as kid in school too. I'd like to take up oboe lessons again at some point but my oboe needs repair and I can't afford the fee at the moment. I'm considering purchasing an inexpensive flute like the one Lance has demonstrated bere, to see how I get along with it. 👍🏾🎼🎶

@@lynzannabel6990 Great. I m now 80 just as actively playing : flute, recorder, percussions/drums and voice. Oboe is a beautiful instrument. So is flute. I find flute so versatile. Can fit in to pretty much any genre of music. I play: Traditional Christian, contemporary Christian, Jazz, Latin, pop, rock. ( Jethro Tull got me going on flute. You can do THAT with the flute! Ha ha . ) By far, the biggist difference with wind instruments is the embouchure. Double reeds like oboe are difficult, flute, a totally different embouchure is also considered a bit difficult. I palyed trumpet for a while and did will with it but didn’t stick with it. The plus of Flute, recorder, oboe clarinet and sax is that fingerings are similar. The difference is the embouchure. Except of course recorder doesn’t have one. But breath control is very important with recorder. I still love recorder, soprano, and am playing this Sunday on a piece we are doing. Ok TMI. Ha ha. Good luck. And have FUN.

@@roadboat9216 Thanks so much for your reply. Wow, you're a busy and versatile musician. Jethro Tull rocks. I watched a video from Sarah Jeffrey recently and she mentioned JT. I purchased a flute yesterday and I'm not going to fully assemble it until I've cracked the embouchure on the head joint. It might take me weeks😉. Hope all goes well on Sunday and enjoy. Best wishes. 💜

@@lynzannabel6990 Thanks. Good on you for the flute. And yes, the singer / musician of JT is Ian Anderson. Like me, self taught. Amazing talent. A bit over the top with the acting but that’s OK. Works for him! To the tune of millions of dollars.

Gee whiz Lance, I think you could make a plastic flute sound good! Of the three Amazon flutes you’ve tested here, I think this is my favorite, perhaps due to the higher copper content. I was pleasantly impressed by the sound.

@tbelding3 жыл бұрын
I'll admit, during the whole unboxing, I was waiting to see if there was another pair of gloves; and there was. I suspect that the brush and the pull through cloth were put in by accident. I use one like that for my bassoon. The cork grease seems to be one of those "put one of these in all of the cases" on the assembly line. I'd save it and hand it over to the person sitting next to me :) For the gloves, they may be, rather than for playing, just for cleaning. That way you can clean the oils off, and put the flute away without adding more fingerprints. The screwdriver is a nice touch. I keep having people (technical people) complain about flathead screws, but they serve a good purpose, especially on things like instruments. (could you imagine trying to use a Phillips or Robertson?) Thanks for yet another one - I can't believe I missed it.

Hi Troy, I agree that some of these "accessories" are just put in thoughtlessly. I'd rather they leave them out and lower the price by $5! Thanks for watching! Lance
@tbelding2 жыл бұрын
@@LanceSuzuki - Based on the prices for things I order from China, it'd probably cost them more in labor to leave them out, than just having the cases all loaded with the same ten cent items. I doubt if they cost a US dollar for all of them together.

Great question. I think that if you are planning to seriously study and practice, I would go with a higher priced instrument from a retailer specializing in flutes. These cheap flutes are fine for a few weeks/months of play.
