Have to say I wasn’t too impressed by my time at Preston station a couple of years ago, or the whole rail experience ! Sunday mid afternoon got dropped at Penrith after a weekend in Keswick for the train to Liverpool / Wirral with a change at Preston. Train from Glasgow was 15 minutes late, missed connection at Preston. Stuck there for an hour, found a Greggs for a cheese and tomato baguette plus coffee, then wandered round a semi-derelict shopping arcade for 15 mins. Finally trundled into Liverpool Lime St to find that the city centre had been taken over by the Giant Puppets plus thousands of daytrippers so all the Merseyrail stations had been closed… had to get a Chester bus over to the Wirral…. Next time you’re in Liverpool walk from Moorfields to Lime St station…. nice buildings along Dale St, past Birkenhead Tunnel entrance, along Library / Museum / Art Gallery, St George’s Hall and Empire Theatre. Glad you know how to pronounce Kiiiiiiiiirby !
