That was a brilliant video, I really enjoyed it. That was quite a walk you did there. I don't like walking along roads, makes it seem interminable and you never quite feel safe. So I sympathise there. Great going though, I enjoyed it just as much as your rail adventures. If you are going to do any more of this kind of thing, can I suggest getting yourself some decent walking boots and waterproofs? They don't have to be crazy expensive ones. Also, a walking pole helps too. I used to think they were a bit of an affectation but they make a difference on long walks, help spread the load a bit. Well done lass.

I just started watching - great video. I see you went through Orrell after leaving Wigan. I always associate that town with Rugby Union. One Saturday in the 1990s when I was doing my railway job I saw a sign for Orrell and I thought I'd have a look at the ground. But as soon as I entered the town I saw a locksmith and it just so happened that I needed a load of keys copying for a job we'd just started. So I called in and they made the keys on the spot. So that locksmith made a pretty tidy profit just off the back of the rugby team. I never did get to the ground though because I still had 5 or 6 sites to inspect and I wanted to do it in the daylight.

@@jcmimages9729 I did it I think when the train wasn't running due to track damage (I have been sneaky and hiked up the railway line when the trains weren't running, the curved bridge is a highlight). That time I hiked up the Douglas Track. There are two tourist trains each way on a normal day. The Skyrail gondola is pretty much turn up and go. The cabins take up to 6 passengers, unless you're stinky (and I definitely was) From the bottom of the Skyrail there are buses back to the city. Again I don't think anyone sat next to me.

The Lancashire sign welcomes you to the Lancashire County Council area, rather than the ceremonial county of Lancashire. Merseyside doesn't have a unified authority. It's divided up into boroughs - Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens, Wirral and the City of Liverpool. I suspect you were entering the Sefton Council Area, who were disinclined to put a sign up.

Is it true that Wigan does have its own pier called “Wigan Pier”. Even though Wigan is further away from the sea and Blackpool and Liverpool are the closest to Wigan. I don’t understand why that Wigan has a pier.
@GLovesTrains6 ай бұрын
Yep I filmed it towards the start where me mate is 👍
@garyleeharper5 ай бұрын
It is not a pier in the seaside sense. "Wigan Pier" was a small jetty that jutted out into the canal to deliver coal to barges. The site is there but the wooden construction is gone. It became famous because of George Orwell's book but also because it was a musical hall joke in the early 20th century about not being able to afford a seaside holiday.
