Another tip I've just discovered is using the 2020 Anessa Perfect Milk, which is almost too drying and mattifying on me, in a thin layer to mattify sunscreens that are a bit too shiny. Oh and also Innisfree No-Sebum Powder is the best in case anyone else is interested in a powder to take down shine. I guess I'm just sharing these tips in the hope that they might help someone who struggles with shiny suncreens!

@@queenofstitcheswarrior2668 I'm a guy and don't wear make up, so I don't understand the make up world. So from your comment I assume setting powders make every sunscreen matte? Or is it just the specific brand that you mentioned? I get super oily during the day, and was wondering if this would help me.

Yes, setting powders make you more matte. It’s pretty much a powder you dust over your face using a brush, a beauty blender or a makeup sponge.

I have extrremely oily skin (greasy skin 5h after using a foam cleanser and no moisturizer), and one technique that made a BIG difference to the finish of this sunscreen is to : - use around 4 pumps on my fingertips and rub each hands fingertips together (5 fingertips of each hands together) -then pat lightly the sunscreen with my 10 fingertips on the face to have little dots everywhere on the face. Key is to use light pressure. -then I can rub it in effortlessly, but not only that, it somehow looks way more even and "matter" than when I used to just rub it on my face. The finish went to overly dewy and congestionned feeling (face feeling hot), to a natural finish with a lightweight feel on the face (it feels like wearing nothing on face although I apply the correct amount of sunscreen 4 to 5 pumps). The oil control part is true imo because although there's a slight pleasant shine, the true greasy sebum like texture appears way later in the day. I used to hate this sunscreen because of how a pain in the A it was to spread for a dewy finish, but changing from rubbing to patting first made a huge difference to how pleasant it is to use now.

I haven’t tried the Oil Control Fluid, but the original UVMune Fluid is very shiny and too greasy on my skin. By contrast the Oil Control Gel Cream absorbs super well - honestly one of the best I’ve ever tried and it’s also the most matte European chemical sunscreen I’ve ever used. On me it is subtly glowy but pretty dry touch and it doesn’t budge. No yellow cast on my fair skin either.

@@helenalovelock1030 I like the one in the tube! I will say that's the finish with no skincare underneath, or 1 layer of toner max. It's definitely more glowy if you add more skincare, so my top tip to reduce shine is to really really reduce skincare under sunscreens.

LRP Anthelios Dermo Pediatrics was matte,non-pilling but it has been discontinued. The UVMune fluid is shiny AF and I bought a lot when it came out😜. The Eucerin Sensitive Protect Dry Touch 200 ml is matte but it pills a tad bit on reapplication. They released a 200 ml Eucerin Oil Control this year but I haven't tried that yet. I'm trying Vichy Capital Soleil Mattifying now,I might get the UVMune Oil Control Fluid. The old version of Anthelios Oil Control gel cream pilled like crazy on me and the new one looks similar. For a really matte finish, Biore UV Kids Milk is super matte but only PA+++. The least shiny chemical sunscreen I have tried is Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen.

It is def not matte LOL but it's less greasy than the regular UV Mune. Anecdotally people have said this has helped against their pigmentation way more than Eucerin oil control, so if someone is dealing with pigmentary disorders I would still suggest the UV Mune, set with some powder :). That boosted UVA1 protection makes a huge difference.

I am using the oil control gel version, just bc it is fragrance free a I have rosacea. I like that it doesn't sting my eyes, but it is hard to spread due to its thick consistency and it does not have a dry finish, more on the glowy side, but it is not an issue for me. I do wish the fluid version would be fragrance free....I would go for that one right away. I am from the Czech republic, Prague...so whatever is available here might not be the same for the States (when it comes to ingredient list).

I’m so bummed about the fragrance in the fluid. I’ve been using the creme and really like it but was so hopeful that I would really love the fluid. I will never understand the addition of fragrance in a sunscreen. Everyone can wear a fragrance free sunscreen but many can’t or won’t wear a fragranced product so it seems silly to limit the reach of your product by adding something that is literally unnecessary to the performance of the product.

I think it may be impossible for anyone to make a sunscreen with high UVA protection, but yet is also matte and black-skin friendly, since you'll definitely need to sacrifice one out of the three factors. Sunscreens with high protection will be oily since the filters are mostly oils or dissolve in oil, but too much mattifying ingredients will also add white cast to the sunscreen as well.

Agreed 100% with your review in all aspects. The uvmune oil control fluid made me look like the Tin Man from Oz and smell like grandma (I’m male, and a Fitzpatrick II) and the gel cream is better but still not very matte. I still use the Eucerin oil control for the face on weekdays at the office as it still is the only one that looks like I’m wearing nothing, but wear the UVmune gel-cream for weekends out in the sun for the extra protection. During the week, I also use the uvmune 400 gel cream on my neck and ears as the little bit of extra shine looks good there and I like the extra uva1 protection.

I have tried several sun screens for oily skin and find the best one is the Eucerin Oil Control (no fragrance btw). I wouldn't call it matte, but it doesn't add much extra shine and looks quite natural on me. With the La Roche Posay Gel Creme I had a lot of pilling (with or without products underneath). Also, it gave me a kind of silverish cast, which is weird, because my skin is very white.
@godsrunnerup

Gives mine a yellowish one upon 2-3 hours of wear, which is when I reapply, anyway. The pilling happens if you don't give the products underneath time to set. If I do/if I skip moisturizer altogether, it doesn't pill for me

If they can make it invisible, why can't LRP? I also have started to use other products like Altruist and Garnier Ambre Solaire, even though they are body SPFs I freaking love putting these on my face. They only contain Tinosorb S and Avobenzone I think for UVA protection, but that's enough for me. Also I am gonna be trying the LRP Shaka Derma Pediatrics. No 400 in that. I used to love the LRP, used it for years until I decided to try others to find something more lightweight. I liked the mattifying effect. But the new versions are not dry-touch at all. They may be oil-controlling or non-comedogenic, but definitely not dry-touch or matte.

Yes!! Thank you, uvmune 400 in general is quite greasy when you apply the appropriate amount you're supposed to. My only pain point with uvmune 400. I still use it though because I don't trust any other brand to have the level of protection that la Roche posey uvmune 400 does

I livei n italy. For me the dry touch would cause pilling and it was hard to melt into my oily skin and i would feel so sweaty and hot flushed after applying it. It would sting! My skin didnt love it at all. Tried eucrin anti dark spot sunscreen and it made me breakout. Now i am using uvmane 400 hydrating cream and i am breaking out again with clogged pores. And it stings too. Will i ever find my ideal sunscreen

I have combination skin. I love the new LRP oil control fluid so much. The texture is similar to shaka invisible fluid in a less oily and less runny version. I would say the consistency is similar to the gold Anessa sunscreen. It also has some oil control property but don't expect it to be matte . While the gel cream is more matte but it is harder to work with. Sometime it flakes and feel like putting a think paste on my face. The shaka fluid is lightweight and easy to apply, but for hot and humid climate, it gives oily sticky feeling.

These formulations seem quite interesting to me. I am Canadian though and for some reason, La Roche Posay here still hasn't released a sunscreen with Mexoryl400. We have access to the older original formulations, but they are slightly different than the EU/International versions. They have Mexoryl XL/SX and Tinosorb S, but none of the Uvinul filters. The face fluid also comes in a 125mL "body" size in case if somebody might be interested. La Roche Posay Canada ships internationally I believe.

If the Canadian authorities have not approved the Mexoryl 400 filter, then LRP probably can't release the Uvmune series in Canada.

Ramón, I bought the gel-cream, and it does subtly mattify my nose for like 4 hours. I only use this on the nose with either no or very little moisturizer under. Other parts of my face are drier so I use other SPF there. Of course, I am not impressed with 4 hours, but at the same time things can get too matte as well. I tried "Etude House Sunprise Airy Finish Sun Milk SPF 50+" (a Korean SPF I think), which is super light but settled into such a matte powdery finish that it emphasized fine lines and just got... chalky. Considering that I am a madman who applies different sunscreens on parts of my face, I think the gel-cream gets a shy thumbs up from me. Not least because of the filter. With regular application, I know I have done what I can to protect against UV damage.

The only one I can get to be remotely matte is the Anthelios XL. I only use small amounts too. My skin is just weird though, My skin just looks like it's greasy, even when it's dry to touch. I've been on accutane too which reduced my oils but made no difference to how my skin looks.

I thought the gel crème was terrible. My skin tone is lighter than yours (around MAC NC 20) and it left me looking pasty. I found it hard to spread and I could see the white build up on my eyebrows and hairline. I felt like I was putting paste on my face. It did have a dry touch feel though.

The Vinosun SPF50+? That was my previous go-to! I'm acne-prone, sensitive and dry with compensatory oiliness (combination) and it was the only SPF50 I had used that didn't break me out, but I did get unflatteringly shiny after a few hours. I've moved on to the Beauty of Joseon Rice sunscreen, it's slightly less luminous but stays that way :)

The spf 100 label is a fraud. In EU it should be illegal to advertise a product like that bc it tricks consumers. I don't exactly remember if it's already illegal or it should be so, there was a huge controversy a few years ago but I've forgotten the details.

Why do you rub the sunscreen in so hard, to the point that you are pulling and tugging your skin with the force of the rubbing?

@ I don't understand what you mean exactly. I have tried both of these sunscreens, but I still don't understand what you mean by it not rubbin in easily. Like is it sticking? I found that the fluid seemed to dry on my skin as I was putting it on, making it hard to rub in in because it was drying too quickly. The hydrating cream seemed more normal and easy to apply to me.
