Just a handy tip if you don't have an adapter that fits your hose perfectly. I see a lot of 3D printed ones that address this problem and I see a lot of videos of people using ugly aluminum tape by the pound. Don't tape it AFTER you connect, tape the male adapter end BEFORE with blue painters tape. The simple answer to most of these misfitting hose to coupler is just build up about 1/4" of blue painters tape on the male end of any duct adapter, now slide the hose over the tape and, poof, perfect fit. In many case, don't worry about the clamps, just put enough blue tape on the adapter to it fits super snug, but if you want to clamp, you have this nice semi solid seal of the blue tape. All this talk about gaping of the hose when you clamp is taken care of.

Yes that would work if your house diameter is larger than the diameter of the coupler, for sure. I always recommend sealing up anywhere that you have a connection with the hose though. Taping up the connections helps to lessen the chance that smoke and smell escape. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

Subscribed! Lots of great tips…..I was wanting something for my vent hose to prevent critters from coming in but wasn’t sure what to get. You answered that! I too ran a 6” hose all the way out the window but seems like most I see run a 4”. So most of what they suggest doesn’t apply to me. So I was happy to see this….and subscribed! Thank you for all your tips. Going down the rabbit hole with your videos now 😉

Great walkthrough… and I love that you left the mistakes in the final cut! Makes me feel less like an imbecile when I see that I’m not the only one fumbling around sometimes. Did you use black duct tape, or some other black tape? I also like to keep things looking neat, and I fear that if I ever had to take things apart, all of the sticky residue from duct tape just becomes a giant mess.

Hi Jim! Thanks for watching :) I could make a whole video of mistakes! Yeah I used black duct tape to seal up the connections and no, I'm definitely not looking forward to the day when I have to remove that tape for whatever reason! LOL I'm sure it'll be an absolute disaster cleaning up the residue.

Great video. If the GlowForge was directly in front of the window where it vents outside, would a in-line fan still be preferable. Thanks.

Thanks for watching! I'm going to say "Yes" to answer your question because the inline fan is much quieter than the onboard fan of the Glowforge. It also moves air much quicker and more efficiently than the Glowforge fan. You'll still need to clean the onboard fan of debris once in awhile though as the debris will still pass through the inactive fan blades. I hope this helps!

Hi came across your video and like the fact that you used the the six in hose my question would it be safe to use a pvc adapter from the Local hardware store that adapts from the 4 inches to 6 inches(PVC S&D Increaser/Reducer Coupling, 4 in. Hub X 6 in. Hub) your thoughts on this are greatly appreciated by the way awesome video😊

Thanks so much for watching! Yes, any adapter that increases the back exhaust on the Glowforge to 6" would work just fine. There will be variance between all adapters so choose one that fits snugly and don't forget to seal it up with some good quality duct tape.

Did the in-line fan reduce Oder? I just got the AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S6 on Amazon and my office smells worse than when my GlowForge filter was full! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t know if my in-line fan is just not working properly or if this is what I am Supposed to expect, a smelly office!! 😫

Yes an inline fan will definitely help with odour. If it's doing the opposite for you, you might want to check to make sure the air flow arrow on your inline fan is pointing toward the place you vent out (the window or hole in the wall). If it is pointing toward your laser, you'll be blowing the air inside the GF back into your room.

Hey! Great videos! Can I ask why you added tape at the fan end but not at the damper end? Thanks.

What is the difference between the 4in and 6 inch inline fan? And is what is the benefits between the 2 with the Glow Forge
@SteelForge1
@SteelForge1 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Melinda! The main difference is that the 6" fan will move more air more efficiently away from the Glowforge because it has more power and a wider diameter. Think of it like drinking a milkshake through a thin straw versus a thick one. Hope this helps!

Can you please give me the exact link for the 4 to 6 adapter you bought for the back of the glowforge?!?!? I have been searching high and low for one! Thanks!

Unfortunately, it look like it's not currently available anywhere. I bought it from Amazon's Canadian site but yeah, it doesn't look like it's in stock. I would search Etsy for "Glowforge adapter". Best of luck!

Hey Jeff. In case you haven’t already purchased….I ordered my adapters from Amazon also. If you follow “Martinson” on KZbin you will see all sorts of fun gadgets that he produces on his 3D printers. One being those adaptors. Well worth the $!
