The skull faces are such a creative and brilliant addition to your already imposing obelisk! 💀 I think the orange and purple lights glimmering from within look absolutely spectacular. I love how the ones on top also illuminate the cross. They give the obelisk an eerie and haunting appearance at nighttime! 🧡 💜 I am always impressed with the way you distress and texture your gravestones. They look incredible and so authentic! 🪦

Thank you so much for the support, LordHog. I always appreciate your kindness and support for my channel. Do you decorate for Halloween? Hopefully I can inspire 🎃🎃
@LordHog Жыл бұрын
@@IsaacAlexanderDIY I typically decorate for Halloween and recently been decorating for Christmas also, xlights. For Halloween I try to build , but generally end up buying animatronics from places like Home Depot, Spirit Halloween, etc. I am trying my hardest to complete my creature box that I started year ago. The box and pneumatics in place. Just need to finish up the controller this year. My ultimate goal is to make an animated spider that spins a body as if the spider caught someone and cocooning its pray. I do find a lot of inspiration from your channel, as others as they are so many creative people out there. I do donate since I think you do an outstanding job and with the donation I hope it helps the KZbin algorithm to promote your channel more as I think you deserve it. The only sad part is at the end of the holiday season it will be idle time and will have to wait until next season to see what creativity you r I guess for us.
@IsaacAlexanderDIY Жыл бұрын
@@LordHog I hope you do end up making that animated spider. It would be so awesome. Any amount that is donated is super helpful and I am very thankful for your donation. Once January comes, I normally stop posting videos until July/August. Since this is only a hobby of mine, there’s a lot of pressure that is placed on creators to constantly put out content. So I take a mental break for the first half of the year so I can focus on Halloween and Christmas for the last half

This is awesome. You do some pretty impressive work! A tip for adding the aging: pre-spray your piece before adding the black paint and spraying. For mine, I dry brush white, add black paint to a spray bottle with water, spray the entire thing, let dry, spray again, until I get the desired effect. Then, I spray it with plain water and do the same technique you did with the black paint, except I use white paint. The white paint helps it to look like mineral buildup. Then I touch up with dry brushing white if needed.

I have problems getting the styrofoam blocks here, but the styofoam coolers for medical supplies are easy to get. I often use those as a base for my tombstones. I'm thinking I can do something like this with those. Just glue the lid in place. Maybe even add some sand to the base for weight, and may not need the rebar to hold it up.

Have you ever used that skull mold with spray foam? To keep is light weight? Id be curious to see how it works with the expanding foam, and what to put in the mold to take it out. I think can spray with water first and it will come out?
@IsaacAlexanderDIY Жыл бұрын
Yes I have. DONT DO IT! Lol I RUINED my molds by using expanding foam. Maybe if I had greased the molds it would have worked, but I didn’t and it ruined the mold, and I had to throw them away and buy new ones.

I wonder how it would come out of you used paint, BUT added plaster of Paris OR Baking soda to it to thicken it... Which is something we do in the "primitive" decor world to massively age something .... I usually use chalk paint bc it sticks to everything and it's very matte, but if you need waterproof paint, then latex paint is great too. You can even use Talc powder (sold at like Sally's for barbers)... Your worn look is fantastic BTW. I just wonder if you can do the worn look with the thickened paint instead of using spray foam at all... Lol, awesome video, got me 🤔💭 thinking lol.... Too bad spray paint melts Styrofoam bc Rustoleum makes an amazing stone look spray lol!
@IsaacAlexanderDIY Жыл бұрын
This is actually a great idea that you may have given me. I’ve never added plaster or baking soda to thicken the paint but that’s actually a really cool idea. Thank you for the tip on talc powder as well. I do like using spray paint on foam to roughen up the surface before I paint it. I’ve done it before with great success, especially with my tombstones. I will spray paint it in various areas so that it can eat the foam away, which which makes it look aged once you paint it.

Ahhh, plaster of Paris.... I JUST used PoP & used it in a silicone mold, let it dry for a day... Went to pop it out annnnd a 1 out 4 broke 😭 and it was literally just a rectangle, nothing fancy (mold for ice cream sandwich, the sandwich part, super easy mold). I don't know what I do wrong W PoP, but it's not the first time I've had it break on me. It's such a bummer. As someone who makes a lot of fake food W spray foam, if you poke holes in places while the spray foam is drying, and push out the air & excess foam, it makes so it doesn't puff out of shape. I always had a problem with spray foam & air pushing the bread pans out of shape, making them almost oval, so I figured out if you poke holes, it will release the the air & liquid foam.... I use great stuff, it works great when you do the holes and push all through the drying process, so like every 30 minutes. I do the same when making fake cupcakes in muffin tins or pans.

The amount of foam you used might put me into debt! Those cans are at minimum 5 bucks (for the cheap brands) and you used 6 alone on the top half, not including the other parts. There's gotta be cheaper ways. I saved myself a couple hundred bucks on the skeleton statue you did. the monster mud mixture alone was over a hundred. I did it with a big bag of plaster of paris and a can of weatherproofing spray for 30. it's been rained on a few times and it's still perfect.
