As someone who's pieced together a set of 5-75, these are a deal. The only reasons to have a full set are 1) multiple people using the gym at the same time needing them 2) Supersets with different weights 3) you really like having a large chunk of wall space to hold all those DB's. I'm seriously thinking of buying these for when I actually need to go above 75 as then I have 80-120 for less than the cost of trying to get those in individual and I don't need another rack.

Excellent review, which helped me pick Ironmaster quick lock adjustable dumbbells with heavy handle kit rather than these. Fast weight change is not an issue for me. After using Power Blocks for years, I cannot tolerate any caged in feeling.
@espcustom2 ай бұрын
Heavy handle solves the longer handle issue even though I can say that after almost 5 years of daily use, it's not an issue for me at all without. I love that they don't rattle around, the absence of a cage make them suitable for any exercise imaginable. I like the repins a lot but I wouldn't ditch the IMs for them, especially if you get the IMs for cheap used or on sale. If you don't mind the slightly slower weight switch, they are downright king.

You can purchase the 20 lb plates for Ironmaster dumbbells which will make the handle just like a regular dumbbell because the add-on plates insert into the handle. Downside is if you do a lot of light weights for therapy, its a pain in the ass to have to remove and reattach them. I ended up buying some 5/10/15lb traditional dumbbells because I do a lot of rehab exercises after having back surgery.

I'm really excited to see how other companies respond to this now or what a v2 may have in store in the future. I'd love to see Snode especially update their dumbbell with smaller increments and maybe a heavier max weight up to 100lbs but keep it cage-free and reasonably durable. I don't need it to survive being thrown off a building 😂, but a couple feet drops would be nice. Right now, the cage and weight-adjustment design are a deal-breaker for me on these Reppins. I don't want to have to adjust 4-places to change the weights of two dumbbells and make sure they all match, especially when the adjustment pin doesn't very clearly line up with the weight labels. This is one of the things I hated about the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells I tried like 15 years ago when first getting into working out and had to adjust all 4 ends to set the weight, so I swapped it for the SA Gear 5-50lb Adjustables which have lasted me this entire time. My discontinued SA Gear dumbbells actually have a similar adjustment style to these Reppins where you pull a pin and slide it and release, but it adjusts both sides of the dumbbells from just one pin so it's faster to change weight and you can never make it uneven (maybe that option is a pro to some people, but I have no need for uneven loading). But they are definitely not super durable and I don't/can't drop them. I prefer the single adjustment point and cage-free design of something like Snode/Trulap/Nuobells but I know that makes it much trickier to also make it durable so there are trade-offs. If someone can solve this engineering problem and produce a cage-free, 5-10lb start weight to 100lbs+ max weight, 2.5lb-5lb increments, single-adjustment point, durable dumbbell under $1,000 they'd basically have the perfect option IMO.

Glad to see the price came down with the partnership. These things were barely not worth it at the initial price unless you really had a niche use case scenario, but at $1,400 for the full heavy set it's a good value. I have some 1090 bowflex ones I got used and while decent, you do have to be careful with them and they don't work well for certain exercises where you need to hold the end of the dumbbell. It is interesting that these actually come as a 65lb pair. The third box has 4 additional plates which converts it to 85lbs then you can purchase 1 or 2 more sets of 4 weights which converts them to 105 or 125. Even the bases have the holes drilled for 65lbs set. Not sure why rep did not sell them this way. 65/85/105/125. I got a set last week and have a guy coming to pick them up this weekend. I just could not get used to all the rattling/pop pins being in the way/4 removable plates that I have keep up with/no rack availability/no easy way to use versa grips or straps/and the rings on pop pins for extra plates. I wanted to love these so bad, I ordered them so early I got the 849 price before they jacked them up…. That black widow rack is awesome, but based on the other stuff on thier site, I bet it will retail for more than a 4 post 93 inch pr5000. Great video as always. I am also curious as I type this what would happen if I stuck 2-4 felt circles on the add on plates. Would they still slide in and out but kill the rattle? Maybe that would be a game changer?

Slower to change for sure, but I’d rather have the best in all the other specs.

FYI, you can use microgainz plates for the 1.25 lbs. adders. No need to wait around for Rep to make some. They fit nicely and probably even are a little more balanced than the Reppin adders. The microgainz 2.5 lbs. adders won't fit, however.
@TonyChanTurboАй бұрын
Do the microgainz 1.25 adders also lock in like the Repin adders do? Also there's probably no way to get to a 7.5 increment right? with two 1.25 you could get a 2.5lb increment, and with two 2.5 adders you can get to 5lb increment, but no combination would make it to 7.5lbs unfortunately.
@benbarnett1076Ай бұрын
@ they don’t “lock in” in the same way, the mechanism just clamps to the handles to lock them in place. No concern with them moving or falling out, I actually find them slightly annoying to remove. You can do a 7.5 lbs. increment, but it won’t be totally even. You can simply slide only one side to the higher 10 lbs weight and add a 2.5 lbs. plate to the other side. This was actually Pepin’s initial way for 5 lbs. increments before the adder plates. It’s not ideal, but also not as odd feeling as you’d expect (at least a higher weights) if you REALLY need that increment
@markhalstead23862 ай бұрын
I agree about the weight markers. They seem to be off a little compared to the selector. As to the Black Widow stand, an add-on plate storage area could be added on the rear bottom member. I don’t like where it is on Rep’s walk in stand.

I have the same weights, they have the same issue with the misaligned weight graduations. I even called rep and (to their credit) they sent me new handles. Those handles have the same issue. This is just how they are made, they aren't aligned for some reason. If you have these, the right side will be a little above the weight marker you want (in terms of weight) and the left rail is a little below. E.g. if you want 50 lbs, go between 50 and 60 on the right and between 50 and 40 on the left.

I also sometimes have an issue with putting them back in the cradle where it gets stuck to another weight plate or doesn’t go in smoothly. My other issue is the ring on the adder weights have completely popped out on me twice before, it’s easy to put back together but the spring and other small parts can fly off and get lost. Luckily that hasn’t happened yet. I imagine they should be easy fixes in a v2 but overall I love these over my old Ironmaster set.

Haven't had that issue but if you watch the part on the strap and handle you'll see me talking about how it can be tight and you'll see me hit the pin in the strap clip.

@@GlucksGymThanks, didn't catch that on my first watch. Wish they had a spring return action.

They do into the back of my hands a fair amount, kind of painful. Other than that they are great. Wish the inside pin was shorter and rounded off
