The only complaint I hear about silicone, is that it is not as clear as E-6000. It dries just as you see it in the video. If you spread the bead thin...using your finger it's hardly noticeable as seen towards the end of the video. The problem is that E-6000 is a glue, not a caulk. The silicone doesn't just bond, but seals to prevent water from getting inbetween the joints which can cause them to come apart. There is another silicone product made for fish tanks, that is clear, but I have not been able to determine if it is outside worthy.

Will silicone really hold outside ?

Silicone is a product MADE for outside. It's actually not a 'glue', although it is used like one. It's a caulk. It's made for sealing around the exterior of windows and doors. (get the silicone made for exterior/doors & windows). It's 100% water proof but more importantly, it's sun proof. It is heat rated to 400 degrees (specs are on the package). That means it won't dry out and crumble apart, nor will it melt like butter in the heat. Because it's a caulk, (as you can see in the video) it keeps water from getting in between joints where 2 things are bonded together. Give it a try.

In order to keep it short, this video only demonstrates how to apply silicone the right way. I have a second video that shows how to drill the plate, which is my preferred way of attaching the flower head to the post for best security. This is intended to be a DEMO video to show a technique. Not about how to make something. Glue application is important. Whether you are using silicone to bond two plates together for a dish flower...or if it's a garden totem... learning how to use the product for best results is the only point of this video.
