Glue Down Vinyl Plank or Click Vinyl Plank?

Im trying to decide what to do with my basement floor after pulling up 30 year old carpet. Everyone tells me different things because I’m shopping without a guy. This has finally described exactly what to do. Perfect thanks for being a big brother!!!

Thanks for the video. I have recently installed a similar click flooring over old parquet flooring and the locks are breaking away, now I have to change it out for glue down. Glue down all the way for my projects.

I have been using the product which has a one inch overlap of self stick glue. These are planks. Very happy with them . They are a flouting floor and water resistant.

The prep for glue or click should be the same. Just because glue down vinyl can bond to uneven substrate doesn't mean it will look good. Also, glue down vinyl is typically thinner so you see more imperfections due to telegraphing. The best product is actually 5mm loose lay vinyl. Most of these videos are made by people that do not do flooring for a living.

i just finished a room with glue down. the floor is unlevel. I'd have to completely refinish the floor with leveler to get it level. The glue down molds to the floor and works great.

Totally agreed. Click lvt is junk. I had a liquid screed laid across the ground floor of my house as i knew i wanted it totally flat. It is. I spent thousands on click lvt (premium product) im a 30 plus year builder, i have laidany many floors , click lvt is easily the worst flooring product ive ever had the misfortune of buying and laying. All mine after 6 months started to break in high traffic areas, afyer 2 years it happening everywhere. The product has a 30 year guarantee but who wants to take up a 100sqm floor again and relay new? AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Pretty sure they still expect a fairly flat floor with click plank lvt. On a reasonable subfloor it would be a heck of a compression force to snap like that when lying on a flat on the floor. Its like any job, preparation is key.

Levelers are aways an option , transitionless floating floor install is Possible with planning, planning and focus. For basements the flood possibility plus the replacement ease also ease of installation, I like.

Good video thanks just one question, theres two types of glue for vinyl planks Ive been told hard set hard and soft set which stay tacky which one do you prefer for wet areas like in the bathroom? Thank you.

I would rather use onw that does not harder entirely so you have the option to remove and replace damaged plank if you need to. You can use Mapei Ultrabond 373 or Roberts 2330 or Custom (forgot the name). Please like and subscribe! Thanks

Great information. What are your thoughts about starting with a herringbone pattern. I am drawn to the thought it may hide unevenness even better than straight pattern glue down? Thanks again for the great video!

I heard, over a time Gluedown floor shrink and leave gaps especially sunny spots… any comment on that? Thanks…

It does shring and expand but it is not noticable. I installed it in several basements 5 mil, commercial space as well 5 and 2 mil and I never notice anything. If it does it is probably less than a mil. Probably depends of quality of the flooring as well. Other than that great easy maintenance stuff like a ceramic tile easy to maintenance. I am not sure, It was small private seller here where I live. I think pretty much all the floors are made in China just packed in States or Canada. I paid 2.20 CAD per square foor for 5 millimiter floor.

Even you want I you can not put vapor barrier as you need to have solid surface to apply glue. Just glue it on concrete you will be fine.

There are some floor primers but I have never used it. Usually I go directly on concrete. Never had a problem with moisture. Glue itself will serve as a vapour barrier.

You could but I would not do it because click is hard to replace later.

You DO NOT have to remove all flooring to a defective click panel! You can replace just one panel in a click panel LVP just like you can remove one panel in a glue down LVP. Guy either does not know what he is talking about or is just lying for some reason. I have done it and easier to remove than a glue down since it is NOT glue down.

If, if, if… Get the job the right way, level your subfloor and click system never will fail. Glue down floor always have an issue with the gaps in between the planks

No, not the same product. Glue down is more like a rubber and needs a glue.

Yes DIY project no leveling needed if it is not too too crazy uneven. This is a basement, not a White House. If people want to do prep they still can, if not, no harm at all.

I don’t think I would glue anything with preinstalled underlayment on it. You can try but I am affraind what if that foam padding start coming off over time. As well not sure how the gluw will react with foam. Never know if you don’t try. I would say keep it simple, and go on concrete directly with regular glue down plank.
