Like the vid. Skim viewed and I think in this video you use paint to glue the foam which is what I did. I didn’t clamp it completely at that stage though I used weights but when I glue up the stringer I will be using tape parcel tape to tightly seal it in obviously with wood under the tape it’s a delicate operation

We watch the video, with great anticipation, for the end result, which is the hot wiring, but that part is left out. For those experiencing the same sense of frustration, herewith a link to this channels hot wiring: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5jblYdooN2hnck Great video to show how much work a quality blank actually involves. Thanks!

Hi Goncalo, EPS or XPS will not work with polyester resin. It must be epoxy resin or it will melt the foam. If you shape your board from polyurethane foam you can use polyester resin.
@goncalooliveiracardoso419710 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your answer. Do all your boards are made with epoxy resin ? Is the polyurethane or the EPS/XPS the most used ?
@AndrewWorkshop10 жыл бұрын
Gonçalo Oliveira Cardoso Really depends, I use epoxy and styrofoam because it's what I have close to me but it's expensive. If I could get polyurethane blanks I probably would use that since it shapes better than styrofoam. But also epoxy is not as stinky as polyester resin, so I like that.

You just use. The epoxy resin you use for boats?

Hi Andrew, how are you? What's is the best between these two foams EPS and XPS ? I'm thinking about glassing my board with polyester resign. which one is the best?

What kind of wood are you using for the stringer? Been watching your vids. I'm enjoying them. I haven't shape mine yet. I picked a fixer upper the other day, a MAD DOG 6,5"x 21x 2, 5/8" Swallow Tail, round nose that is suiting me well for FL's choppy, weak waves. I'm only taking my AlohaFish: 6', x 19, 1/4"x 2, 1/4 when is waist/chest high.

Do you have a spreadsheet or webpage of where you bought all the supplies? Also, what's the cost difference between making your own blank compared to buying one Thanks!
@AndrewWorkshop9 жыл бұрын
f0t0b0y I don't at the moment but I'll do something up on the weekend. I'd say cost difference for making my own blank is around 100 dollars, mostly with the freight and exchange rate with the States.
@KingFillip5 жыл бұрын
The biggest cost, is your time. A pro can get surfboard you want in a week. A home gamer can take a week to months to complete a board. If the board is priceless to you. Make it. If you want to surf without the additional $1000 for supplies. Buy a custom board or a pop out model.

that glue is good?, i mean u doesnt have some usual break boards or something? i bought this glue by coincidence but i found this on internet, i would like to hear your opinion Gorilla glue sucks (at filling gaps) and one more question, how thick its a proper stringer? i dont want to make him too thick or too thin, thanks
@AndrewWorkshop10 жыл бұрын
Yes I like that glue but depends on what you want to use it for. For gluing the stringer, I find it is excellent, you could use epoxy as well but I find it hard to work with, with cure times and waste. Gorilla glue isn't really for filling gaps, it can but it depends on how humid it is and if you spritz it with water, I find if it cures in low humidity it doesn't expand much. I think a proper stringer can be as wide as you like, depends on how rigid or flex you want the board to have. Some long boards can have a really thick one or even multiple stringers. I generally go with 3/16", you could post your question over at swaylocks, someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to answer that.

You know you can order any blank with your own rocker measurements from us blanks for under 130 bucks. Unless you do it just to do something then that's all good but US Blanks makes it super easy. If you order two they won't charge you a set up fee. Good luck.

I cant find foam that thick and I dont want to glue 2 pieces together either. I can order foam that big but it's crazy expensive.
@surferjo45818 жыл бұрын
But why can u use pu glue? Doesnt it melt the foam? Or is it just with the resin?
@AndrewWorkshop8 жыл бұрын
+Hollywood@home PU glue won't melt foam, it's not a very strong solvent. Polyester resin will melt foam.

one more dude, in swaylocks nobody answer me :D what this man put as filler at the end of the video? Epoxy 101 and refered to the epoxy resin, u must add a kind of catalizer like in the polyester resin? or something like that?
@AndrewWorkshop10 жыл бұрын
He is using spackling that is used to repair drywall, it's used to fill the little holes left from the sanding and also reduces the resin from being absorbed into the foam so the board doesn't become to heavy. I will be doing a video in the next few weeks with the type I use.
@feliwein_cc10 жыл бұрын
thanks buddy, and about the catalizer or aditional substance for the epoxy resin?

Im having a tough time taking anything you say seriously considering your using a glue that is NOT waterproof, and specifically states shall not be used for applications submerged in water.
