Not sure if your board making abilities are more impressive or your switch stance ability.

I'm amazed by your pour foam blank quality. The blank looks very clean and void of big air bubbles.. Excellent craftsmanship.. 👍

Just found your channel and love it...looking forward to seeing more videos. Love the boat build one, currently building a 16' skiff from scratch, also make stand up paddle boards and wake boards here in sw Florida. Just starting to get back to normal around here after being blasted by the hurricane..keep up the great work my friend.

How much does the foam cost for a board that size? You can buy a blank that size for under $100 but shipping costs are insane. Also, I noticed that you made the form from an actual surfboard. Doesn't that make you end up with a thin surfboard after all the sanding? Really cool that you are doing this. Makes me wants to try.

Blank costs me around 30$ with this technique, but if I bought bigger batches of liquid foam it would be even cheaper. It is small indeed, the main goal of this mold was to make blank for kitesurf boards, so i dont need as big of a blank.

What kind of paper do you use for isolating the foam from the mold?Good work!🤙

That board is built like a brick shit house! I defy any regular surfer to snap this beast, guess you need the extra strength for kite surfing though🤙

Would be cool if you could include the stringer in the mold when you poured the foam.
@HANDIY
@HANDIY Жыл бұрын
That would be amazing but i havn't figured that out yet, the expanding foam indide the mold would move the stringer around before it cures.
@garyh4458
@garyh4458 Жыл бұрын
@@HANDIY One way to do it would be to have a lengthwise groove in the top and bottom molds for the stringer to fit in so that it couldn't move. You'd need to trim it afterwards, though. I have no idea how the include them in surfboard blanks.
@HANDIY
@HANDIY Жыл бұрын
@@garyh4458 Yea that could work, you'd have to make sure you pour the exact same amount of liquid foam on each side, or else you'd get a pressure and density difference, the foam would have to expand on each side at the same time. The stringer needs to fit perfectly in the grove and the mold still needs to close correctly. I've played with the idea as well but in the end a carbon tape stringer is just less work. The real blank manufacturers prefer cutting the blank after the molding and glue the stringer in. Integrating the stringer in the mold would be ideal but its quit a challenge.

Would you recomend 2, 4 or 6 Lb Density pour foam? Thanks for sharing
@HANDIY
@HANDIY Жыл бұрын
I found 3lb to be ideal, 4 will be a bit heavy so if you don't have 3 lbs I'd go with 2, but I would add a little extra mix that way it might be closer to 3lbs density..

Any reason why you haven’t tried placing a stringer? What are you using for uv stabilization and whiteness?
@HANDIY
@HANDIY Жыл бұрын
No good reason except that it would take more time then adding the carbon tape. Also I feel like the reflex life of a wood stringer is shorter then carbon and probably weighs a little more. In this video i used Alumlite White pigment added into Part A of the foam mix, makes the blank almost white. However it's still not UV stable, it does get yellow over time like a classic PU surfboard. I'm still experimenting with additives, but i havn't found the magic solution yet.

@@HANDIY sounds great. do you prefer PU blank over EPS for kitsurf? and how many kilos of mixed foam did you pour? cheers
@HANDIY
@HANDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I dont have enough experience with EPS to compare it with PU. I put about 2.2 kilos of mixed foam into the mold. I'm still figuring out how much or how little i can put in there.
