Gluing up a bent lamination

In this video, James and I glued up and clamped a bent lamination. Couldn't have done it without you James- you're the best shop assistant!

This is of great value to this kid that he has the oppurtunity to do things like that together with his dad (I assume it is his dad). Just tightening the clamps is a real 'man-thing' where the boy wants to show that he got the muscles to do the job. And he also knows how to loosen the clamps again. And the boy learns a lot about working together with someone, taking instructions, gaining experience and yet be a part of the project. And the father learns how to give clear instructions for someone. And just the satisfaction that the father gets, that his son actually learns something from him. As a father of two daugthers I have yet to have that experience until I might get grandsons.

I will be constructing a large curved redwood beam for a pergola. The arc has a 10' radius and is approximately 14' in total length. I'm planning to resaw a 2x8 into 1/2" thick slices for the lamination (planning to use a similar jig as shown on KZbin "Woodworking, DIY Curved Beams? Learn how "). Hopefully 1/2" is thin enough to bend easily.

Cool. Good luck! I would try 3/8" before 1/2". Which glue will you use?

It is easier to use a webbing and a strap ratchet. Webbing ensures uniform pressure which the clamp form can never achieve
