Oil Burner

8 жыл бұрын

This is a very simple and easy to construct waste oil burner with a wide flame output. This shows the test run of the prototype. It is designed for heating things like hotplates or giving a more fireplace like output. It is suited to heating broad areas or items and melting large pieces of scrap metal such as Aluminum.
It could also be adapted for an oil powered spit roast.
The construction is simply a tube inserted into the outer extinguisher bottle casing right to the bottom and a notch cut out.
This makes the flame come back on the outside of the inlet tube as well as the outer extinguisher bottle for a double vaporisation of whatever waste oil is being burnt.
Please check out all my other waste oil burning videos and tutorials and don't forget to like this if you did, share it around and comment. .

holy guacamole hey oil burner guy was just watching your video about the 12 volt bilge motor blower and I was thinking hey that looks like a turbocharger when all of a sudden lightning shot through the roof right to my head and gave me an incredible thought Wow since you're into extreme safety precautions this will light up all the safety sissies out there... take a good old diesel pickup take off the Boost side off the turbocharger rig it up to one of your burners and start wracking the throttle baby and watch the safety sissies cry. ..total throttle control Power guaranteed to melt anything on this planet maximum boost output yeah I can't wait to see it and by the way I don't normally laugh too much at anything but I'll tell you what me and the kids sit down and watch your videos and I really laugh hard you're a cool tough true man kudos to you buddy it's good to see real men out there in the world that aren't afraid to do manly things ... and by the way everything I own runs on veggie oil I've been doing this for close to 20 years as a matter of fact I got to go today and pick up 500 gallons more....mike knutson

From what I have read, once the process is going, it should be possible to take the output from teh wood and burn that to create a self sustaining process. I have seen some setups on YT that do that and others that just let it go to atmosphere which seems a waste. Gas is smoke so even if you can't run the kiln on 100% wood gas, You should be able to use it as a significant supplement to whatever other fuel you are using.

How are you, OB?? All good here.. Watching this burner made me think of the pool heater. I am seeing a few more slots to widen out the heat and control the burn, but this looks like the perfect burner for it!! Did I read (2 MW)????????? Holy hell!!!!!!!! Fire that out one end and put it on wheels and you could break a land speed record!!! lol..... As far as the guys that didn't show a lot of interest in a smaller burner, don't let them bother you.. Those guys are only here to see the biggest possible flames and not the practical use for a smaller burner.. (You know we all love watching things melt)!! hahahahahaha
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+Steve 1961P. Hi Steve, I did have the pool heater in mind for this as well. I was also thinking of putting a diffuser over the top to try and spread the flame a bit more and even it out as well. Yes, I'm trying to think what I'll need for 2 Mw. The main problem I see is if I have enough blower power... which I think I don't. Fuel I can do to insane levels , My oil collection pumps would exceed 30MW which is power station type output and not something for the backyard.... yet. IF.. I can get the air in, I believe my blowers should do 1.2+ Mw and from there, I'll have to go to some sort of petrol blower. Or find some more jumping castle blowers. The hard part I see is going to be measuring the fuel use so I can work out what I have achieved, whatever it is. One way may be to use an air flow meter pressurizing the fuel tank. If I know what the flow of air into the tank is I'll know what the flow of oil out is as well. Other thing may simply be to weigh it.
@SteveP-vm1uc

+Oil Burner I had a diffuser in mind myself!! I think for the 200K heater I have, this would work with the single cutout and a piece of 2" angle iron raised over the cut out. It should spread across the heat exchanger pretty well.. My heat exchangers both have a very thin sheet metal angle over the collecting fins to spread the heat even more, but I'd like to make mine use the least oil I can and collect the most heat possible... The 400K heater might need (2) burners done the same as above to cover all of the collector without having to push the flame... Or one burner with a split header to widen the section of flames... Two things I really want to accomplish is 1). make it as quiet as I can. 2). Make it as efficient as possible with maximum heat collection.... What have you come up with for a flame to water heat echanger???

I really like the thin wide flame here. I need to make a blacksmith forge for farm repairs and some ornamental work. This oblong flame looks ideal to put the heat where I'd need it. I know the table was some distance from the base of the flame but it took quite a while for it to start turning red. So is this a great design for heating steel to heat forge with? I'm looking for the best design just for putting red hot heat in a small area like a gas or coal forge. This one looked great because metal could be put in cross ways of the slit to heat just a small portion or laid down length ways of it to heat a longer length of the steel. Also what keeps the inner pipe and the outer tank from melting away while burning so hot? Or does it after several burns?
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 7 жыл бұрын
Steel takes a lot more to melt than most people give credit for. People are always asking about how long the burners will last but I keep them outside in the weather, do many frequent burns and still I have yet to see signs of significant Degradation. With insulation or fire bricks around the output your easily reach the temps you need with this for steel work. I can do that with my bigger burners in open air just through brute force. :0) Not efficient at all but it is fun.

+Oil Burner Can't wait for that video. Keeping a glass house warm on cold frosty nights can be expensive using electricity. An oil burning system might be the trick if it can burn all night without you being there to tend to it.
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
Philippe55 My idea was it would burn till the fuel ran out. I was thinking about 5-10 Kw which would be half to 1L of oil per hour. Would depend on the size of your house and the amount of temp rise you needed but even 10KW would give 24Hrs out of a standard Cubie or 25L drum. As usual, Finding the right blower is the trick. Think I'll have to try those Ducted fan RC jobs.

I have an old Toyota pickup with the cat punched out and about 2.5 feet of pipe behind it, I thought about making a system to drip waist oil in the empty cat so the exhaust system glows and shoots flame. I guess my question is if this is even possible and if so how oil would go about doing it.

If it is a petrol engine you will only possibly get flame on the over run where there is oxygen in the exhaust. The rest of the time I would expect it would smoke. If it's diesel they always run lean except at high power output so would work better. To make it work on a petrol engine effectively you would want to inject oil and probably compressed air. I'd be careful about having the pipe too hot though. I had a Diesel that lit up all the carbon buildup in the exhaust once and it got so hot it set the under body sealant and paint on fire. Luckily I had some bottles of soft drink in the car which made effective fire extinguishers. Might be OK for the odd flame belch but I wouldn't drive up the road like that.

It would smoke so bad that you could not see their car for the blue smoke. Never any flames but an awesome display of smoke. One victim had a man coming to look at his 50 Plymouth. +DIY Jet Engine Guy i had same problem let it get ( hot first) then add oil make sure your flame is swirling like a tornado mine will put out a white flame 5ft. melts a car wheel in 8 minutes.
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+DIY Jet Engine Guy Looks to me like your oil flow could be insufficient. Try raising your fuel tank higher. Also, how are you lighting the thing? You may need more preheat as the tank looks pretty cold. From the short Vids, I think you are probably giving it too much air and the fuel can't keep up. Backing the air off on it's own may not help because you need a certain amount of swirl to keep the thing going. I was thinking of doing a gas bottle burner, I like the position and shape of the nozzle on yours! Where are you in Oz?
@taylor5263
@taylor5263 8 жыл бұрын
+DIY Jet Engine Guy thanks for the replies it seems as though if i increase oil then the airflow isnt enough to turn it to a vapour so preheating it must be the issue. im lighting it with an oily rag as youve stated you do in your videos. the nozzle points slightly up but its fairly wide which should be perfect for my foundry. im from melbourne thanks again
@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
DIY Jet Engine Guy Try putting in your rag and cut some kindling and throw that in as well. The bigger bits you can get in the better. Let it burn on that for a bit and fan up the heat then add the oil. The wood will act like a wick and allow the oil to burn easier till the tank gets hot. If you have too much oil the flame will be dark orange and probably smoke. If it's lean, the smoke ( Yes, they can smoke when lean too!) may be white and the flame will be very bright and more white than yellow. From what I saw in your vid with the clear fuel line, I would think with that blower your fuel is insufficient. I also suspect you aren't getting that bottle hot enough which can mean a lack of preheat OR that you are getting the preheat right but not enough fire in the thing to sustain Vaporisation temps. That's a pretty big bottle and to get it on the " Curve" of vaporising the oil, you may have to give it the beans. In doing so, you also need to ramp them up accordingly. You do have to be a bit subtle with these things on startup at least till you learn them then it gets easy. Also don't be afraid to fail. If one way dosent' work, go a bit extreme the other way. Sometimes you can think you are doing one thing but in fact the problem is the opposite. Ask me how I know! :0) Pitty you aren't in Sydney. It would be good to be able to get together with another oil burning nutter. :0)
