Oil Burner

Oil Burner

8 жыл бұрын

The is the torpedo oil burner that was featured in earlier Vids. It was designed to be started and pre heated with gas. A friend wanted to know if it were possible to start the thing on diesel or Kero. I didn't think it would be easily but I had no trouble.
I did not push the lit paper back far enough into the burner initially but once that was done and the rest of the paper caught alight, it came up very easily.
The fuel used was Waste Vegetable oil but any non inflammable liquid fuel can be used . The burner is suitable for Metal melting, water heating, Home or shed heating and other applications where a reliable source of stable free heat is needed.

Another brilliant video; nice demonstration that your system works with either a front or back induced burner. You are a genius for simplification of a complex problem and your solution has a very wide range of applications."Talent hits a target that no one else can hit; Genius is hitting a target that no one else can see" Arthur Schopenhauer.

Thanks mate, Much appreciated. In all honesty, I really can't think of any bloopers other than when I burned through the Crucible in the brick furnace and the ally ran out on the concrete. Other than that, there is nothing that went wrong or I haven't shown. The only other one that comes to mind is when the burner was backfiring which I did a Vid on and that was a feature not a fault!

+Walter Keller Check out my other upright burners. I usually use them for melting. If you want to use this one for a furnace, I'd put 2" inlet pipe on it so you can have plenty of air and heat. A lot of people go to a lot of needless complication and expense for burners which is not at all necessary. They just don't seem to accept that simple and straightforward is actually better.

+kbbacon I'd almost forgotten what a nice, simple burner this thing is. I have been thinking to build a new, higher power one and add secondary air as well. I thought I might be able to get the flame to really shorten down and have it just produce hot air out the end.

Great video. I like how theres a graveyard of old burners in the back round as well haha. I got my boiler just about finished and ready to be installed. Only missing piece for my burner is a blower that will move enough air. I also installed a ignition system off a old oil furnace so i dont have as many issues with the burner throwing sparks anymore. New video on my burner soon. :)

@glumpy10
@glumpy10 8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel van der torre This is not like a car engine, there is no efficency variable in the combustion. If the flame is burning without smoke, it's a linear output of heat to fuel consumption. So much oil = so much heat output however you burn it.

Does anyone know if shop vac would give enough air pressure to do something like this?
@joandar1
@joandar1 5 жыл бұрын
I am sure it will deliver enough air from the outlet to do this. How many watts is your shop vac? I am not sure about the one shown here, it is an induction motor. My shop vac is a Universal type (Brushes) and is nearly 2 HP. I don't think the one shown is that powerful. HP or Watts for the most part is an indication of Volume of air at low pressure as opposed to low Volume at higher pressure as in a compressor for example. Hope that helps. Cheers from John, Australia.

*** SAFETY ALERT *** As can clearly be seen in this video, this process generates considerable amounts of metal oxide debris ("mill scale"), due to the heating of metal components while exposed to the ambient atmosphere. You will be aware that under the current WHS regulations, constructors are required to render their apparatus safe, including provision for foreseeable deliberate misuse. An AS/NZS Standard Reasonable Person is able to foresee that the aforementioned metal oxide debris is able to be swept up using readily available implements, rolled into a big fat joint and smoked. Further, an AS/NZS SRP is able to foresee that the ensuant toking is almost certain to be devoid of any "high", leading to disabling mental anguish and ongoing trauma.
