Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZbin!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Balls of steel to enter even the start of the failing part of the level. Leaning upright prop held in place by a pile of loose rubble that had fallen and you clambering over and disturbing the rubble potentially degrading the rubble support of the prop and roof section.... and it only got worse and worse. I would have been less concerned on the whole lot collapsing on me (quick death) rather than being trapped beyond a loose fall with no possibility of escape or rescue. Oh and early on, one of those wooden dynamite boxes appeared to have a cylindrical object showing partly above the sawdust! Got to admire your guts and determination, but would prefer to see you alive and still producing these interesting videos!

41:12 - "What is this...not sure" -- looks like the lid off a very old Thermos! A lot of those had a metal top piece as both a protective cover for the melamine screw-in piece that sealed the unit, and it was also a drinking cup. IIRC a few old/deceased friends and relatives were still using those in the 1980s in their lunch boxes.

I'm a rockhound from CT, where we have some great mineral deposits and mining history, naturally some of the oldest in the USA. Nothing to see here like you are showing us, and now you, and a few of the other great Y.T. mine explorers have made me want to get out to your part of the country and see these places... Always great work on your videos, and thank you!

Hi Gly and all the fans! What an ADVENTURE! I feel the rush you feel! Any filmmaker who can make people feel what is experienced as it's being filmed is hitting ALL THE BASES! Every bendt stoll, every tight space and every hanging rock increases my tension and I'M mentally URGING you to "GET OUT NOW!" Whew! Plus, this film showed GREAT USE OF DRONE footage by overviewing the head frame and surrounding areas. Lastly, be mindful a fresh vocal description can be layered onto older content. Describing more about what happened in Silver Souls while holding our collective breaths could be insightful. Tailfeather out.

It's nice that some people leave water/ drinks in remote places, both above and below ground. Never know if it could save someone's life! Or just make their day of exploring more special.

Looking fabulous, Gly! So the 5th installment of this mine was my introduction to your channel and honestly, I have no idea how it even popped up on my feed. I'm so glad it did though. For my claustrophobic self, watching you and Mr. M working those endless ladders was a nail-biting, peeking through spread fingers as I covered my eyes kind of event. Take care and congrats on giving Bob a new lease on life.

During yne 1950s. My dad had a grocery store. The only heat was a potbellied cast iron stove In the back. We had nail kegs with a board top over them. Around the stove for loafers to sit on, the kegs had nails in them.. Old men would come in and loaf and read the newspaper, it was a small one horse town. Farming coummunitie. Store open until eleven every nite, social center of town. Bench out front too . Always 5 or 6 loafers ,, spitoons for chewers, those old brass spitoons are long gone.. saturday nite was a very busy place, 8 years old on up to 15. That place made me old beyond my years, I knew too much for my age. Haha. It served me well after I grew up. I knew how to deal with people, old men pestered me and I pestered them. Haha, little kids have big ears, and don't forget most of it, it was a good childhood. Farm kids learn about life and death and sex and everything at a very early age. It's both good and bad but mostly good. I still view other people as old people, but not myself. I'm 80 but not in my heart and mind. It's just beginning to dawn on me I'm old too. My bones and joints remind me..? I like your videos,,, I never miss one. Thanks,... one of the greatest men this country ever had. DWIGHT EISENHOWER. Grew up in pretty much the same setting....mid west....

This was a very unsafe mine for you to explore. It was just as tense reviewing it as it was watching it the first time; I remember! In the "chute area" of the adet one can see so many areas where rock (boulders) were just ready to peal away from the walls. A very fringey area to walk through! My gosh! But you are still with us and unscathered, but I bet you won't forget going and coming back from the 600 ft. depth on those ladders!! When "tools" (your Jeep) need attention (repair), then it must be done, but thanks for putting up this "explore from the past" for a filler for us to watch until you can get around again.

Thanks for the wonderful mine tour Gly! Please don't read this as high jacking a thread! I believe in Gly's ability. But, Gly you sometimes concern me with your health, age and your tendency to travel far out in the hostel environments single vehicled. Good to hear that Old Bob is getting serviced. That kind of travel beats everything and everyone real hard. Best having that service now and not walking later. lol! 👍 Please read on this. Here's some useful information that I've learned over my years of off roading. NOTE: i have never off roaded in the desert but have some 40yrs in the forests of the Pacific North West. I have briefly been to the desert. What a beautiful place! Location's and weather don't matter to use this information. A broken machine is a broken machine. Caution be smart and use your sun shade umbrella when making repair/patch hacks. The hacks are of little use if your passed out from the heat/cold. These tricks have all been successfully tested and used by friends and myself to get people and there rigs out to safety. OK please humor me. here is what I feel to be some usefull Information that may save your bacon. I'm sure there plenty of subs here that can back me up. Old Bob with some out of the box thinking can still get you out to find help even with some pretty severe looking damage. Things like you don't really need air in a tire or rubber on a rim to drive on it. You don't even need a rim or spindle or steering knuckle to get moving again. Nothing left to hold the wheel on? Chain or strap with what you have, a chunk of log to the end of the axle and us it like a ski. Yep even with no snow in the dirt and rocks. If you break a spring or just have a housing come loose or break, jack it up and put something between the axle and frame, wood is usually best for me. A ruck sack full of rocks and dirt and wrapped in duct tape should work also. ( I did say think outside the box! Sometimes you need to try an idea stupid or not because it may just work or you. ) As a feller once said "Is it really a stupid idea if it works?" VGG.. try and put the housing back close to where it belongs . Two important steps! First, Strap or chain the axel back rearward ( you do have a 1/4" chain and some kind of binder or the cable equivalent with you don't you?) Then use your winch or whatever you have or can find and pull the housing forward tight against the rear chain to hold it in place. Important step two, don't strap around the steering tie rods unless you have to it makes for hard to steer. I4m a big fan of finding junk in the ditches on the road side to use for hack fixs. This hack produces a horrible and slow ride and may need to be repeated several times but can save you many miles of walking or a humongous tow bill! The axle housing coming loose will most likely tear the brake line off. So what, no big deal! Use your friend the Vice Grip ( Please for your sanity only buy Vice Grip brand locking plyers now made by Erwin . Import junk isn't worth dieing in the desert for ) and clamp the line off as need to stop fluid loss. If you brake a hard line, crimp and fold it then clamp it. It may need fluid but the rest of the brakes should still work. ( you do carry a bottle of brake fluid don't you) are you seeing a trend with the things you should carry list? This is the one I'll get haters for. No brake fluid and really, really need brakes? As last choise option. Most any non compressible, non flammable liquid will work. Nothing with chlorine in it!. Think things like water, beer, Ice chest juice etc. I have never tried antifreeze. Does anybody know what happens if you mix ethylene glycol with brake fluid? ALWAYS FULLY FLUSH YOUR BRAKE SYSTEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER DOING THIS! CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID WILL DESTROY YOUR BRAKING SYSTEM! Breaking a rear axle shaft and having it try to leave its home or patching a damaged radiator will have to be a hack for another time. Sorry for long winded post but these hacks need to be passed around! Thanks for the listening Gly and fellow subs. Be safe out there and if this saves you sometime, don't think of me. You have more important things to do 🤠🦧

Great rerun! Mr. M stayed on top in this explore but Randy went down for backup and communications as far the 440 ft level. A couple hours were spent hanging out at the 100-200 ft level which had a lot of debris and backfill. Sorting through this were old newspapers, whiskey bottles, cans etc. Randy put together short of a "museum" using some old boards to make shelves to display all these artifacts we uncovered and all was left intact. This never got filmed when Gly came back up, they were ready to get out of there. Maybe something to check out again in the future if still accessible.

I live in Orange Co. CA and for here we got a pretty good wallop from the storm, or should I say storms, Cali is finally getting some water. In John Steinbeck's "East of Eden" the prolog does a great job of explaining the weather patterns in Norther Cal, Southern Cal is similar just drier. We get these patterns every decade or so following many years of drought...So uh not climate change. Thanks again my friend so glad you do this, I love western US history. And yes, he does save! It amazes me on how the miners worked under extreme conditions to bring a valuable mineral to the surface and like moles digging tunnels underground. MAGNIFICENT. !!! To extreme for my taste. But very elaborate workings., never the least. Thanks for going all out Gly to show us how making a living was back then . Bound and determined they were. Thanks for sharing even the sketchy area. Another amazing adventure. 😊😊

I herd knocking as soon as Gly started drinking the ice tea ... and a few seconds later multiple noises of hammer hitting rock ... it's stored energy in the mine from all the hard work the men put in so many years ago not uncommon it's called a residual haunting ....

The mines there are so much different than our mines here in Eastern Kentucky. Only black gold in these mines.

Yes and then like a few seconds after there was like a steady of 5 or 6 knocks. Like a hammer.

After the shorts on wends. and the patented claims, might check with Jeff W. as he appears to have connections to get into some of those patent claims in the Vegas to kingman and a bit further west strip along the tip of NV probably to about lake havasu from his past videos,
