GM 1500 Front Axle Seal Replacement - Driver and Passenger

This video covers General Motors front axle seal replacement for 1500 series vehicles for at least 1995-2014. There may be more years involved as well, but I'm not sure.

I’ve rebuilt my front end suspension on my k1500. Working on my steering now. Thank god for this video lol I ironically ran into the same issue on these on my front passenger diff seal. I asked everyone at the parts store if these had an axle seal they said no. Replaced both cv axles and hub assemblies and checked after 2 days of driving and noticed the front passenger differential leaking out of my new cv axle part. I’m new to 4wd’s and this is my first truck ever, but ya live and learn. anyways back to it my man keep up the videos!

Great instructional video, straight to the point and very clear. I have a 1988 k1500 4x4. Just put a new high performance 350 and new trans 700. Noticed my axle seal on the passenger side was leaking. I specialize in the marine industry, but I’ve always worked on cars throughout my young years.

Where should the snap ring stay in the gear or on the shaft?

Is the snap ring supposed to lock the gear down on to the shaft.

Is there a gasket you can use for the tube housing? I have an 01 silverado I was looking for a gasket for it but it keeps saying 07 and up for fitment for the tube gasket? I'm about to attempt a passenger side seal and bearing change I did the drivers side already but just want to buy a gasket for it if possible. I'll go with rtv if I have to thanks need advice on this.

Is there anything that I'm missing man? I've got the slide hammer in the axle stub for my driver side on my Yukon and with the slide hammer it still come out at all.

hey skamps, so buddys shaft came apart on passenger side so i took apart and changed the seal and bearing. Now i cant for the life of me get the gear back on to the shaft so itll hold it in place. Any ideas? the snap ring is inside the gear and its like there isnt enough room to get it back on? thanks. P.S. ok i think the snap ring broke causeing all this mess, going to order new snap ring and see if itll stay on there.

The axle seals are the same side to side and available at Oreillys. If you mean the seal for the extended part that bolts on I just used black RTV sealant.
