I'm so thankful you post these videos. Before buying my 1994 gmc k1500. I had very little auto mechanical skills. This past weekend I pulled the transmission out and had it rebuilt and back in. Thank you!!!

For anyone watching, you can indeed remove the front differential without removing the center link and tie rods. Steer all the way to the right, and the differential should pivot out with some finesse

Gave that a try but there did not appear to be enough space.

I got it out today using this trick. Getting it back in is another story. Removed the centre link anyways to help get it back in.

Had trouble with it, turned the wheel to the right, basically feel out, 👍 couldn't get enough leverage to take centerlink off , but now that the front differential is removed I got it off and can slide it back in place definitely the way to go on this my vehicle is a 1996 K1500

Dont you need a front end alignment once you disconnect the ball joints after you get it back together? thanks, great video and explanation.

@tom miller Yes, the best practice would be to get an alignment. We did get one after we replaced the front end.

All things being equal, if the parts are in good shape, it's not mandatory to get an alignment, so long as you leave everything intact. It is advisable to have it checked tho.

Dumb question from a shadetree mechanic, trying to get my oil pan out and the front diff is in the way. My Tahoe is already on ramps, so I'm wondering if taking the wheels off and putting it on jack stands is an absolute necessity for removing the diff, haven't been able to find a straight answer anywhere. Hoping you can help me out
@SuburbanRanch
@SuburbanRanch 2 жыл бұрын
@Patrick Bowman You probably don’t have to remove the wheels to pull the front diff, but you will at least want to jack the truck up so that you can spin the cv axle and access all of the bolts.
