This was a great help in repairing the leaking seals on my 99 GMC Sierra. As I only use 4WD in snow, the pinion was bearing was fine and I didn't touch it. I only had issues with trying to drive on the new side bearings using a hammer. I got one side on and wound up damaging the new bearing when trying to drive on the opposite side. There are some videos online showing a torch method, but I was fortunate enough to borrow time on a hydraulic press to finally put them on. In hindsight, anyone with a hydraulic press can put them on in 10 minutes. Save yourself the headache even if you have to pay a few dollars. Great video. Thanks!

The AWD Denali and Escalade are very hard on the carrier bearings, 100k and rebuild. I've done mine twice now. The last time I didn't even remove the pinion. Pressed two new bearings on the carrier, set the back lash and it was quite as a mouse. If there is a next I will change out to a part time T case and part time extension housing on the front diff.

I have a 2018 Tahoe. The driver side stub axle has a bit of wobble and play to it. More then half of what I’ve found online says it’s normal. Even my local transmission repair shop said it’s normal when I called to inquire. It doesn’t feel normal. I saw someone say the “nut” that holds the bearing on the driver side can be adjusted once the tab is removed. Is this what you would recommend? Along with replacing the beedle bearing and seal? I hope this makes it to you. If there’s an expert in front diffs. It’s you. Thank you.
@Broncocarl929 ай бұрын
TBH not sure what nut "they" are talking about. The spanner nuts on the bearing cones are for preload and setting distance from ring gear to pinion. The setting would only "change" if bearing is going away.
@omargarcia12059 ай бұрын
Thank you for responding. What they call a nut. Is what encases the needle bearing that the stub shaft goes through on the driver side.
@omargarcia12059 ай бұрын
This is an older Tahoe but I’m having the same issue on mines. At the 1 minute mark you can see the wobble. Is it really normal? It can’t be right ? The front differential could lock up and stop the vehicle suddenly (extreme case). The noise is likely failing bearings which would damage the other components and make the unit unrepairable. Thanks for watching.

I'm hearing a drone noise or low howling coming directly from the front diff between 60-95 Klm (metric) noise is only heard when load is applied(gas applied) then stops when you let off. Truck has 220xxx KLM. Should I just ignore the noise and keep driving? Or get her apart and fix immediately ? I think it's the pinion bearing personally. I do a lot of towing with it. I removed my actuator out of my 2000 Suburban which I know the 4wd works on and installed it in the Avalanche and still have no 4wd. At this point I believe it to be a mechanical problem in the front diff. I have never pulled one of these apart so I am not familiar with the system. Do I have a problem with the slide collar? I have a hard shifting clunk, and also when letting off the gas then back on it clunks. in 4wd it doesn't do it. could it be the ring and pinion in the rear diff going? if it happens to be so, I would like to switch the gears from the 3.73s to 4.10 gears. do I need to change the front if I go that route?
