This is a good step by step video. Others just show part of the process, very detail counts.

I had to do this on my 2003 Century yesterday and it was no fun. The video is very helpful and well done.My cousin helped me because I could not get the throttle body off. This car is my baby, but whoever designed the stud bolt at bottom of throttle body is pure evil. Getting the cap nut off is easy, but getting the back nut to loosen the bolt is hard. I don't know if they are all the same, but the bottom bolt on the thermostat housing does not have to come all the way out on mine. It is a slot where you can loosen the bolt and slide the housing off.

Thanks for showing this. At first glance I thought I'd have to remove the exhaust manifold which seemed like bad design. Helpful video although the last 15 minutes could have been sped up or cut out altogether for the sake of brevity.

Do I absolutely have to remove the throttle body?

Change the thermostat on my "99 Century once. Time to change it again. Came to this video to see if the GM thermostat Wrench was being used on the housing. I see that the housing was put on the same way I did mine before. A wrench and another tool to hold the nut in place while turning.

Do you have to unhook the battery

2001 Grand Prix with a 3.1. Do I absolutely have to remove the throttle body?

Why did you have to remove all that other stuff that's not even around the thermostat?
@RickyRepair Жыл бұрын
It’s often easier and faster to peel it back in layers rather than try to attack directly

I did this step by step and now the car wants to start but doesn’t stay running ?

I’d probably be making sure that you installed the throttle body correctly! Good luck 🍀

I agree I'm sure it's a vacuum hose u messed with or a gap where u hooked back up the throttle body, something like that
@ryans413 Жыл бұрын
You can do it without removing the throttle just a little harder
@RickyRepair Жыл бұрын
I’ve never tried it that way, because the throttle body is pretty simple to remove

I was just about to ask can I just remove it without removing the throttle body. I have a compressor with a rathet attachment that can reach the housing fairly easily
@kerrypence420110 ай бұрын
Yes easy to remove the throttlebody and it gives you a chance to clean it. People never think of cleaning their throttlebody.

Doing too much. unnecessary removal of some parts
@RickyRepair2 ай бұрын
@@phxws13 I really have to disagree. As a mechanic, I’ve learned that a little disassembly up front pays dividends. Though it might be possible, is it easy, fast, etc? Struggling through is the parts changer mentality.
