Good video. Thank you for posting. I used a shoe string tied to the shifter end of the cable and used that to pull the cable up through the carpet and through to the shifter. Thanks again. Oh, btw, for anyone else reading this, on my vehicle, the bushing on the shifter end failed. Not the transmission. I spent a lot of time messing around underneath when I should've been up top.

Thank you. I just had to have this done at the dealer as we we were not at home when the "bushing" failed and it would not go out of park. We had to have it towed as I was without tools and my garage at home with the lift. It cost us $369 after a 10% veteran/military discount. I knew this was a simple task. Arggggggghhhhhhhhh....and they charged me $95 for the GM cable I could have gotten on Amazon for $40-$50. OH well. And I would have just replaced the bushing. I think I will get up under than and look and see IF they replaced the entire cable or just the freakin' bushing for that price....

@LehewTech

Thanks for watching bud I hope it was useful. It is nice to work on a clean car but when something breaks down sometimes its dirty! The crucial aspect of the adjustment piece is that you do NOT lock it down until you are sure that both the transmission and the gear selector are in park and the cable is snapped into all the brackets etc.

Great video and a life saver. Question: I have a new issue. I can now put the vehicle in gear but when I try to put it back in park the shifter is loose again and I have to get back under the truck using my hand to manually put it back in park. After I do this the shifter will once again allow me to put it in gear but won't retract the gear back to park it simply remains loose and eventually locks itself in park. I figure it has to be something simple I'm just not aware of what it is yet. If you have a solution your help would be greatly appreciated thanks👍😎👌

Thanks for the great video, is there a chance that the cable is needed to be changes rather than only the bushing? does it break or get cut somehow?
@LehewTech
@LehewTech 6 жыл бұрын
The bushing is the main failure point. Sometimes the cable will get messed up and make it hard to select what gear you want. If the shift lever is hard to move even after disconnecting the cable from the transmission then consider changing it.

I just replaced mine on a 2007 trailblazer. Holy crap what a nightmare. Linkage bracket broke (where the bushing snaps in down below) What do I do tho if when I put it on drive it feels like it’s all the way down in 1st gear. Then when I put it in park it feels like it’s in neutral but the car is actually in park. It’s like I’m two notches off. Maybe I installed it while it was in reverse and not park? It got stuck in park? Can anyone help? I had to actually disengage the bushing from the shifter in order to push it all the way up to park so I could get my key out
@josephfenton7432

There is a adjustment on the transmission side of the cable behind where it attaches to the arm. You start by pulling back the safety then there is a retaining clip that is pulled partially out push the shift arm to park position then shift to park in the cab then push retainer back in slide safety back forward and boom it's adjusted

I've replaced the shift tube bushings and tightened the T30 Torx screws behind the shift tube that connect it to the shift cable. That fixed my loose shift tube but the transmission is not changing gears. The linkage inside is the car appears to be fine and I suspect the damage is in the cable bushing or the cable is loose underneath the car. Problem started while I was parking my car. I pulled in, backed out, and then in again. Went to put car in reverse, shift lever moves, but the gears don't. Any suggestions? Ps.. there was always a hissing/air leaking sound coming from something on the driverside whenever I have the shifter in D. If I move it back up closer to D, the hiss subsides.

It would have been way smarter to fix the grommet that goes on the shift lever Dorman sells a selection of them for this exact reason waste of time and money it’s a fairly big job on some vehicles a lot harder than this some you have to remove seat to get you carpet or rubber floor on your truck all you had to do was find a piece big enough to fit in cable and make sure it was tight on shift lever some of these cables are pricey don’t buy a aftermarket get your proper brand but really you don’t need to replace cable just fix that hole
