GM Delco Stereo Mod Aux input Theftlock Radio 95-97

This is how I modded my 96 Model Truck stereo that is going to go in my new 98 C1500

This works awesome. Thank you upload guy. I did this in my 98 vette. Not ready to upgrade the audio but needed something better than FM/AM. Also my ribbon harness or what ever from amp to radio board was slightly different but wire numbers the same. Better way, instead of a 3 position switch use a normal toggle and a dual 12v relay used for audio switching. You don't want audio running through a toggle switch. Not that we notice audio quality in these old radios but still, I think it was easier(because I had both in my lab). Also I tried to use the cassette tape audio, which works for a second, but I could not spend the time to fool the player a tape was present without a tape in. So I scrapped that, so please don't try yourself. not wortj it. So in ended up going the toggle switch in the tape player flap route lol. Works great. I actually plumbed in a bluetooth module instead of aux.

These radios are smarter then people gave them credit for. You don’t see many modern radios you can unplug from the battery it’ll remember everything programmed. So turns out that’s w smart radio

I kept the cassette player and use a bluetooth cassette adapter and my auxiliary output is mounted on my console, and still have the functionality of the cassette player and bluetooth....... it looks super clean..... thanks for your video, it was definitely helpful....

Pulled my unit out after a couple of Wild Turkey Bourbons to give me courage. Found mine is the one card type. Looks like I have to either update the whole system or live with it. This is the exact same stereo that come in astro vans from 96 to when they quite making them, however the 98 and up models have one circuit board instead of 2 this mod only works on the 95-97 radios. These radios are a direct swap for the 98+ chevys and have all the same features. I do have a few that I would be willing to sale.

Hello, I wanted to ask you for help. I have the same model that you present with an integrated fan "Delco model 15757047". The radio works well but it is missing a frequency coil to tune the different radio stations, so I wanted to know if you could tell me the codes. the coil so I can search for it and be able to repair my radio, I thank you in advance, thank you. The coil I'm asking you about is located just behind the radio's power button, along with two 47 microfarad 16 volt electrolytic capacitors.

That is certainly one way to do it. I really enjoy working with electronics and don't really have any tapes anymore so I did this as much for the fun of doing it as for it's usability.

Awesome I love finding these for almost nothing at thrift stores. You can find good deals on random electronics. I find that small town thrift stores are the best because less people pick thru them.

I just picked up what I thought was one of these at a junkyard. Once home and removing top found it is the single board version, AND it reads BOSE on the front panel. There was a connector plugged in for remote CD as well. I did not grab the remote CD but did get the harness. Do you think an aux input jack could be wired into that connector?

The harness does include 3 wires that can be used for the left/right/ground wires the problem is switching to the input source. The slave tape or cd deck that is supposed to be used sends computer data to the stereo telling it that you have a tape or cd in and its playing. This isn't just a wire you can short out or toggle with a switch, it is proprietary computer data. you can get a slave unit and put in a dummy tape and cut the input wires and reroute them to a aux jack so that when you put a tape in the slave unit it will switch to your source. They also make a input adapter that plugs in to the aux input that emulates a slave cd or tape unit. I think they are around $50 or so.

There are dedicated Aux input from the harness itself. AKA the AUX setting. Some of these came with CD players built in with an AUX tape player. I would have to check what pin out the back is LEFT and RIGHT. Dissassembly is unnecessary.

Neil Caulfield the aux button is for a slave CD or tape unit as well as a CD changer unit. This isn't a standard input. It requires a computer chip on the aux unit to communicate with the head unit. There are adapters that were made by reverse engendering these units but they are expensive $50+ you could replace the stereo for that price.

You might not be reading this reply, but I believe you can solder to the other side of the wire you cut on the connector. Don't need to solder on the board.

This should be the exact same radio you have but an older version. I don't currently have any that accept the slave cd unit.

No not at all if you wire everything good and have a good ground there is no noise at all. In the past I built one with the aux input jack in the dash external of the radio with a external switch as well and it picked up some cross talk from the radio due to the wires being right next to each other for several feet. When it was on aux mode and there was silence you could sometimes barley hear FM when the volume was turned up. Since then I always put the switch and aux jack in the radio with much shorter wires and have never had an issue. I have one of these radios in both of my chevy trucks and I use them daily with no issues. I have attempted to add blutooth with cheap $10 adapters and they gave me nothing but static and I never figured out why so I decided to stick with the aux cable and I couldn't be happier with it. Well I guess there is a career to mark off the list of job options. I am not trying to do this professionally or making money in any way. I made this video to show what I did to my stereo so that others can do the same if they want to. I think it is a good mod I use it daily and couldn't be happier with it. If my video helps just a few people or gave someone a useful idea then it was worth it to me. I was using a cell phone camera in one hand while using my other hand to show things so yes it is a little shaky but like I said the video is free and I spent no money making it I used what I had.
