Who plays the Larsen’s? This queenside fianchetto setup can actually be quite dangerous and is quickly becoming a popular surprise weapon by many strong players - in fact, Baduur Jobava used it to knock Chinese super talent GM Yu Yuangyi from the 2017 World Cup, and Hikaru Nakamura regularly plays it in blitz, both over the board and online. We like our recommendation 1…e5 because it both takes the center, and takes away White’s positional idea of f2-f4 with a grip on e5. Get comfortable with this opening for Black, and White cannot hope to get an advantage!

After 1. b3 e5 2. Bb2 Nc6 3. e3 d5 4. Bb5 Bd6 5. f4 f6, Eugene discusses 6. Nh3. But as far as I can tell, almost no one plays that. 6. Qh5+ and 6. exf5 are the most played, no?

Thanks GM Eugene! Fischer played 1.b3 against Miroslav Filip in Palma De Mallorca 1970. If Filip had taken such lesson from you, he would had beaten Fischer.

Why does pawn take en passant wouldn’t it be better to push the pawn
@vasistaharshathumbaraguddi3192

no pushing the pawn would lead to h6 and now black has space advantage and the pawn on g6 is an umbrella pawn not allowing white to attack

I study Nimz-Larsen and I must say that I do not follow the lines that you showed, yes these are games played however it is not the best way. There are games by Bent Larsen and Fischer using Nimzo-Larsen and I have modeled their move orders along with what pacing stockfish suggests for this opening and have had great success with it personally. You mention bishop pins the knight on C6 that is correct however after that I play Knight F3 usually and after the exchanges you showed in that line you went knight f3 again, that is a flaw it should be knight C4 instead and white can hold just fine in that position, when the bishop is challenged with a6 queen a5 can create a wing gambit if white wishes or white can even at times go bishop a4 and be just fine yet again. If you think of the structure for pawns similar to that of the French Defense or Queens gambit declined you can then implement such strategies into the nimzo-larsen attack. Also D4 after Knight F3 is a great option to challenge the center the variation with the early f pawn push is truly awful and not a main line from any books speaking on this opening or through the openings history

@@thejupiter1744 i know nimzo-larsen this guy is using an inferior line the f4 line he gives is crushed by simply knight h6

@@DailyBanter96 You dont know ninzo-larsen. In the Fischer days people used to play 3.c4 in nimzo-larsen. Nowadays this approach is no longer popular because the white typically gets a reversed hedgehog, which is playable, but sort of a waste of the white pieces. The approach given in this video is nowadays the most popular where white allows blacks d5 and tries to hit the center latter. This has been played by Rapport, Nakamura and Jobava. Try to get a clue before you complain about the experts opinion. This "i know better than the pros" mentality is what creates flat earthers.
