Those hitch pins were a smart idea. You could also use the style of pins that are smooth with the holes through them for a cutter pin. Or some bolts with wing nuts. Great idea though regardless. Those 'T-taps' or 'Scotch taps' whatever you'd like to call them are a pretty unreliable connectivity solution. Non-insulated butt splices with some heat shrink is a much more sure way to connect it all so you don't have any wiring gremlins down the line.

Thank you for the feedback! I agree with you 100% on the non-insulated butt splices. I actually have used those almost exclusively for the rest of the engine harness based on what I’ve seen from a lot of Haltech wiring videos. Unfortunately due to access and time I took the quick way out with T-taps but will definitely be going back with a butt splice down the road when I clean up the wiring. I personally haven’t had reliability issues with the T-taps but I always feel better with the butt splice.

I think it needs a new starter .even on cold starts its slow try and get a modern geared starter.

I’m with you on that! Could you explain a little more what modern geared starters would work? I’ve been reading up on TDI starters and other options but it’s still not clear what the best option is for a Type 1 transmission and Subaru swap. Thank you!

@@RatchetMotors i think if you look on E bay i have had a quick look and see type 2 listed in america I am in uk search high torque starters.good luck

@@RatchetMotors Hey, thank you so much! I'm looking for a pair of seats that will fit inside of a FIAT 850 Spider. These are actually narrower than than the originals, which is very hopeful.

What size subaru motor did you put in your bug

It’s a 2.5 turbo shortblock with 2.5 N/A heads (ej255/ej251 combo)

Your map is still messed up at startup. My carburetor fed Vette starts faster than this.......and this is fuel injected.

Yes and a huge factor was also the weak starter but new starter and cleaned maps means all better now and fast/reliable starts.
