Wow amazing series, everything I have been saying for the past year that i have been running a transmission shop. Almost daily I’m telling people it’s a tuning problem but I’m really excited about playing around with this especially with our Frankenstein builds

These are great videos thank you for taking the time to make them. They are very informative and well made. They should have way more views. There are so many subpar automotive clips on KZbin that get pushed by the algorithm. It really is a breath of fresh air seeing actual knowledge from someone who knows what they're talking about being shared.

Just wanted to add a comment to say thanks, this is REALLY helpful. I recently mechanically deleted the AFM in my 09' 1500 (and got a computer tune locally) and have been chasing my tail on a severe shake that I'm getting while coasting between 35 and 45 mph AND decelerating. I almost threw in a new TC but now I think I will buy an HP and try adjusting the tune first.

@siuautomotive2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t. You hopefully won’t ever go into the “hot” schedule, but if you do, since the torque converter is the main source of heat in the trans, you’d rather it stay locked to help control the heat.

Good videos Shawn. I used you 6L80 guide to rebuild my own. Great walkthrough. Since mybtranny blew up I have been looking into ways of getting more power while towing at 55-60. My truck is lifted so it keep going back and forth from 5th to 4th because it looses power on 5th and drops to 4. Then when it catches up, it goes to 5th again. I was thinking of dropping intake, exhaust and diable tune, but looking at the HP tuner maybe I can tune the trans. What would you recommend?
@ridingwiththereids Жыл бұрын
I'd recommend regearing to compensate for the large tires, along with HP Tuners.
@bobbobby1846 Жыл бұрын
make sure you big tires are calibrated in the tune. tune might think it is something like 265/70R 18 and not a 35 or whatever size it is now.
@gilbertorodriguez88472 жыл бұрын
Is this the same as reprogramming when replacing the Techm?
@siuautomotive2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly the same. Some will use hptuners to pull the original tune off the unit then install on the replacement one. If it requires you to enter the vin, you’ll likely have to pay credits to install. Possibly on both vehicles. If you do this with a bench harness, you might be able to bypass the credit part. When installing a factory program, you are teaching the new techm the new vehicle and giving it the latest revision.

@@siuautomotive The reason i asked is I rebuilt a 2015 Suburban. Then dropped it for inspection due to harsh downshift, ordered Techm and valve body,. Still harsh downshift Then again dropped for an inspection. Nothing wrong, air checked. But the harsh downshift still remained If I did it right, then there shouldn't be a problem, unless there's an update for the Engine control module, I can't explain to the customer with out proof this is needed

During the rebuild, did you address the common failure areas, like the pressure regulator valve, afl valve, compensator valve? Maybe check pressure during the problem to make sure you aren’t fighting high line pressure.

Can you disable dod with hp tuners and still pass california emissions???
@siuautomotive2 жыл бұрын
I would think so, but I cannot say for sure. Disabling DOD doesn't set any emissions codes. I did hear that some states check the CVN values on the PCM, which could indicate if the computer was tuned with an aftermarket tuner and that they could deny certification based on that, but I don't know if that's actually true. I guess google might have the answer if you want to go down that rabbit hole.

Hi, siu . I have a slip in shifting in the low speed, usually from 2 to 1, sometimes from 43 to 2. I heard this issue common in 2015 Tahoe 6L80e and It can be solved by tunning. If I applied this tuning to my 6L80e transmission this issue will be solved. I have no code, neither mechanical and software issues nor any other issue.
@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
Tuning might cover the problem up for a while, but if you have slipping shift, there’s likely something else going on. These transmissions adapt to prevent slipping, so it shouldn’t happen. I’d be curious what your line pressure is….
@abadish67483 жыл бұрын
@@siuautomotive I will check and let you know soon.

@@siuautomotive With my scan tool the calculated pressure line was 520 Kpa at 120km speed and 600 Kpa at idle, These values reading with proper shifting. The slipping wasn't happening.
@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
Those are commanded pressures, but they aren't measured. An actual pressure test with a gauge will let you know if the trans can generate sufficient pressure. You could use a scan tool and command pressure changes and compare them to spec.
@austinwittner70503 жыл бұрын
Is what you addressed and changed in this video all that would need to be addressed in a stock transmission with an aftermarket stall converter? I just replaced my 6l80 in my g8 gt with a new one and replaced the stock converter with a circle d billet 3200 rpm stall converter. I am thinking of purchasing the hp tuner module and adjusting the trans myself. Would the actual shift points need to be adjusted with such a high rpm stall? Or would i only need to worry about tcc pressure and application?
@austinwittner70503 жыл бұрын
Also, i am very thankful for these videos. Very helpful information. I watched all 3 videos in this series👍🏻
@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
With a high stall converter, I'm sure you'd need to adjust the shift points. Basically, under heavy throttle, your engine speed is going to be higher than your output speed due to the higher stall. You'll likely have to tune the shift points lowers to prevent your engine RPM from hitting the redline before the factory settings allow the trans to shift.

@siuautomotive3 жыл бұрын
I know many shops will do the TCC modification in California, but I don't think any will admit to the DoD tune. I wouldn't doubt that the CARB will state that any modification to a OE vehicle is a violation, but I don't believe they have any way of knowing if transmission control has been modified. That's a good question and I'm just guessing at my answers.
