Pretty cool. I would suggest using distilled water if you’re not into washer fluid. Those small pumps and lines are susceptible to wearing out faster and clogging from the suspended particles in tap water. These contaminants eventually build up deposits and can cause erosion and corrosion, and that may be what caused that o-ring to essentially dry up and wear out. If you’ve ever seen a crusty-looking shower head, it’s from the water.

I am a mechanic and to have a video before replacing something for the first time is such a luxury. Of course, I would read the Chilton's, but a video is much better, thank you.

Ok nice vid. Unfortunately I have a Chevy g-1500 conversion van and it's mission impossible to get access to the pump without taking some stuff off. Luckily for me I shook and nudged the reservoir a few times and my old pump suddenly starts working again😁😁😁 peace from Washington state.

I thought you were not supposed to run tap water in the reservoir b/c of the mineral deposits.

Great video. Funny how your older suburban has excellent access to the pumps. Straight out from the top without removing the reservoir. 2003 suburban has the pumps well down mounted against the reservoir which requires you to take out the entire reservoir to replace. I got the exact same pump you did and it did not fit correctly at first. Even with the new grommet which gave it a little more room it required forcing it into its mounting location. Unlike yours the 2003 pump snaps in to a crevice and that extra stuff on the new pump you point out made it not fit without hard forcing it in. The access you have makes it a joy to replace and the extra piece on the pump has no bearing on it seating properly or not. Thanks for posting!

You can test the motor winding by measuring the resistance of the positive and negative leads of the new pump vs the old pump.

I've got two wire plugs for the washer tank, one for pump motor, and one just goes to the tank itself. I needed to see which one went where and you showed me! The one with the blue top and gray fluted seal goes to the pump. Awesome! Thank you!!

Be very grateful if someone could tell me why in my 2007 suburban(LTZ) when i turn on the windshield washer fluid it smells like straight gasoline and is leaving a film on my windows. I have ran gallons of water through the reservoir and it still reeks of gasoline and liquid comes out milky looking and you can see the water separating from what I believe is gasoline?? I have never accidentally put gasoline in reservoir so am I confused as to what my problem is and where this gasoline is coming from????. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

3:20 was where I was having an issue to insert the replacement pump back into the grommet. It seems to be a very tight fit and it is near to impossible to push it in without some sort of a lube! Gonna try that again, thanks bro!

The day I replaced my wiper blades the pump failed (fluid all leaked out.). Your video got me started and the young man next door pulled the wrenches. The lower housing was split vertically…I didn’t even pry or tug on it. This 05 Lesabre lived most of its life in New England so freezing is a distinct possibility, but why did it fail after a year in South Texas? Buyer beware: replacement pumps seem to retail for ten to twenty dollars. O’Reilly wanted $80.99 for the same Chinese will fit replacement. Anyway your video probably saved me a couple hundred bucks getting repairs at a garage. Many thank you’d.

My pump won't work and I checked the fuses. I had to have a new computer put in. I have a 98 Chevy s10 and my windshield washer pump quit. I can't seem to find an exact way to replace it. The shop wants $200, but I thought I might be able to do it my self if I can see how to do it. Can you help me?

Nice! I’d be a bit weary about putting grease on the washer hose. I put grease on a pressurized coolant return line once, so it would be easy to remove. Then the hose became too slippery. It almost slid itself off the barb even with a clamp holding it down.
