@@tamisimpson332 the purpose of detaining a person is to assist in the conducting an investigation. Otherwise, a potential suspect is simply free to go and ignore the officers. Bottom line is the man made a grave error whether intentional or not by acting a fool in public. If this was NYC or L.A., he'd likely be charged with disorderly conduct for yelling the "N" word at the officer multiple times, assault and resisting arrest for yanking away at the officer (once outside), and for eventually threatening the life of the officer "what's your name...I'm going to see you, etc". It's absurd that we have to pretend he's a victim of the officers rather than acknowledge the officer was doing his job during a pandemic and it was the business owner or employees (that made the call) that was the real person to find fault with.

I can empathize with Mr. Mackey and I hope he wins a nice civil settlement. I want to thank Mr. Mackey for cooperating with those armed men our society sent out to "protect" us while they violated his rights in front of his child. That young man has an exceptional father and has now seen with his own eyes how to deal with these armed enforcers we have running around in uniform. Rather than another senseless death, we have an exceptional father. Lets hope we also see a proper civil justice so the kid can learn the next lesson.

I'm retired and this reminds me of my childhood in the early 70's when a older cousin and I went downtown to meet friends to go the movies. We got off the bus and he waited outside while I went inside a restaurant to use the restroom. When i got outside cops had surrounded him accusing him of selling drugs so they strip searched on the sidewalk in front of a Jack In The Box. Saddest part about it is we were both involved in the Police Athletic League and one of the cops new us to be good kids but did nothing to stop it. After we told our story to other officer in the program they kick him out but that effected my cousin for a long time. He when from a easy going fun loving teen to a angry, hateful, quick tempered adult who at 66yo still hate cops.
