Not a single word was said for the last 20 (ish) minutes of the show and it was perfection! It did everything I wanted it to. It was the perfect conclusion.

I REALLY hope that HBO brings this show back...there was soo much real life in it... and you don't even need to add murder to keep it interesting...We need more shows that speak Truth about women's issues. Thank you HBO
@888pil7 жыл бұрын
i think the murder was an interesting plot device. you;re right, that it didn't need the murder - i feel like the show used the murder as a set up for the series only to get to the end and say it was never about the murder, it was about these women overcoming their issues and coming together and protecting one another, and it's SOO refreshing and neat and beautifully done

The soundtrack was one of the best things about this series. I don’t even want to watch season 2 now that I know it won’t have the same director. He chose the music and nailed the whole vibe. I can’t imagine anyone else will be able to nail it like he did.

I'm gonna be the guy that roots for Laura Dern. She's really so good in this that I hated her, sympathized and then cheered and rooted for her with rage at how she got in the mix at the end. She made me a fan but I also just cant resist the tall ones. She needs to do more stuff like this.

Thank You to everyone for contributing to such a master piece. Even the children in this show shine ...

Shailene and Zoey Gravitz or whatever their names, don't match the top profiles of the rest of the cast. Nicole and Reese should have casted better talents out there to match top performances from Nicole, Reese, and Dern. Anne Hatheaway and Michelle Williams would be better choices.

What a boring segment, and boring clips especially. I was very interested in watching this show because of the stellar cast, but this segment completely changed my mind. That has never happened to me before! Either ABC did a huge disservice to this show for describing it terribly, or they did me a huge favor in describing it perfectly and successfully warning me that the show is boring as hell.

I watched a few episodes but cannot support a show with so much violence toward women. Even if the violence is not condoned, many will repeat or put up with it after seeing it. Enough Hollywood. NO MORE VIOLENCE TOWARD WOMEN IN YOUR SHOWS AND MOVIES. I am very disappointed in these talented actresses for their willingness to participate. I understand that art reflects life but very often life reflects art. When we show trauma, we normalize it.
@dupham44307 жыл бұрын
Do you think people who watch this show are just plain idiots?
@katkelliher81977 жыл бұрын
I hear what you're saying and if this show had glorified violence or even just had violence but glossed over its effect I would totally agree. But this show, and I imagine the book as well, show the IMPACT that violence has. So for example the violence that Jane experienced happened once, but we can see through these episodes how wide an impact that experience had on her whole life and still continues to about 5-7 years later. She never feels safe and so those memories impact her relationship with her son, her ability to feel settled in her own life, her ability to be present or ever at peace, etc. Celeste's violent relationship is different in that it is perpetuated through the whole series and I can definitely see how that can be triggering for people to watch. But unfortunately situations like that are all too real. People do put up with more than they should and stay in dangerous situations and isolate themselves from people who love them and would want to help. But even in this character there is hope. You see a therapist telling her that this relationship is unhealthy and she needs to get away from her abusive husband. And even before the last episode Celeste made an effort to get a new situation set up for her and her sons. And although her son was impacted by the violence in their home it's very clear that there is hope for him too to get better and form better habits. We can see that he is young enough to learn new patterns of behavior. I think if we never show negative things like violence on tv or in other forms of art or media, we miss an opportunity to highlight traumatic but real situations that people struggle with everyday. Knowledge is power. How can we advocate against something if we don't know what it is or that it's happening?
@amymikal58607 жыл бұрын
Kat, I appreciate your kind and thoughtful response. I do understand your point about demonstrating long term impact and it's importance. I just think it can be done in ways that are less traumatizing to the viewer and also ways that do not encourage abusers. Though it is good to know about these things, abusers can easily interpret violence toward women in film as carte blanche to continue their behaviors or to believe "that's just the way it is." Again, the abused (and often abuser) already have a tendency to normalize the situation/behavior. But thank you for being a thinking consumer of media. :)
@katkelliher81977 жыл бұрын
a b I completely understand what you're saying and I also wish that a lot of the violence/abuse that is portrayed could be done with more caution to potential trauma to the audience. And I don't ever think abuse should become so prevalent in media that it becomes normalized. I just happened to think that this show did a decent job of showing some realism to what abuse victims go through. But overall I understand where you're coming from. :)

Its a reality in the world. It happens believe it or not, whether you think there should be increased censorship over the issue within film and tv portrayal or not.
