I have to say that larger riders may prefer the enduro oriented bikes, simply because they're stiffer and feel more stable. I had to exchange my Meta TR for the Meta AM because the TR felt too insubstantial under me. 6'2", 205lbs. Personally, anything less than an enduro bike feels flimsy under me. These new enduro bikes are so lightweight, such good climbers, and with the new geo on bikes now, the larger frame sizes really improve the comfort of bikes for tall/ heavy people.

Barelli said it himself that the Meta AM 29 is an out and out race bike for limited few folks vs. the TR which he recommended for the vast majority of people ripping their local trails and participating in races here and there. That Meta TR is both longer and slacker with a steeper seat tube than my size large Megatower. It has slightly less travel. That "trail" bike is an absolute weapon!

Not surprised the times between these two bikes were so similar; after all that Trail bike has the most enduro geometry I've ever seen on a trail/all-mountain bike (there is less than 1° difference between the headtube and seat tube angles, whereas most trail bikes have a 65-67° headtube angle). Not to mention the Fox 36 was considered an enduro fork until the 38 came out this year.

1. Impressive how much fun to watch you can make a commercial, which is basically what this was. A better title may have been "Which Commencal bike is best for you?" 2. Truly well done. Looked forward to this video all week, and it didn't disappoint, for entertainment anyway, with a little helpful info. 3. Doddy's comment about trail bikes....some of them leaning toward the XC geometry and some leaning toward the Enduro...was spot on. Surprised it wasn't mentioned that the Meta leans toward the Enduro, big time, with extremely different geometry than my '18 Trek Fuel EX (also a trail bike) which has a much steeper head angle. This is probably why the Enduro bike only beat the Trail bike by 3 seconds on the downhill. Interesting to me how much their Trail bike beat their Enduro bike on the 50 minute segment dubbed the "Trail" section. This leads me to #4 4. Trail bike is definitely the one for me, as it's the better all-rounder, and in my area, trail is about the best one can hope for as most trails are XC green trails, blue at best. Trail also works for when you go a little farther away to ride bigger stuff on occasion. 5. A more helpful and interesting video I'd like to see made is a comparison between a couple Enduro-leaning trail bikes and a couple XC-learning trail bikes from multiple popular brands/top contenders - including brick and mortar big brands like Specialized and Trek, and the top direct sales models. Then again, I would anticipate results would be about the same. The Enduro leaning trail bikes like this META would be best on big tech, chunk, downhill and big jumps, with their more relaxed geometry and beefier suspension, and XC oriented trail bikes would be faster on climbs and most 'trail' sections with moderate obstacles that reward peddling efficiency.
@ClarkBark144 жыл бұрын
Real question is, is the Enduro still faster downhill after fatigue sets in from carrying the heavier, less efficient bike over that last X amount of miles of trail.
@iggalan4 жыл бұрын
It's a good question. Yesterday I spent all morning going up and then descending some technical trails (hard for me, I'm not an advanced raider). I have a trail bike that's 1 year old, so quite capable. Would an Enduro bike be better for me? Would it enable me to go down those trails with more confidence? Would it make much of a difference in the climbs?
@leftaroundabout4 жыл бұрын
The mass isn't _that_ different between trail vs enduro. A modern enduro bike pedals just fine as long as you stay relaxed in the saddle - only when you try to stand up for a sprint does it go all spongey and inefficient. And that relaxed chugging upwards with large suspension can actually _help_ with some of the fatigue. Of course, when you literally mean _carrying_ the bike, then every extra gram is an extra nuisance indeed... but carrying a bike for _miles_ - seriously?
@vomErsten4 жыл бұрын
@@iggalan It really depends on what bike you have vs. what enduro bike you are looking at jumping into because the spec and geo vary so wildly from bike to bike. It's also worth noting that "enduro" and "all mountain" get used interchangeably by almost everybody, but there is some nuance in there such that the latter is probably more relaxed and plush than the former. I personally wouldn't consider any 27.5-wheeled bike in 2020 to be an enduro, it's empirically faster to be on 29" at least in the front wheel. All-mountain, though, certainly.
@ClarkBark144 жыл бұрын

This is not the right comparison between a trail and an enduro bike. The TR model has a pure enduro geometry which is very similar to the AM model. The TR name is misleading, they have basically created an enduro bike with less suspension than the AM. It would have been more interesting to explain in the video how the bikes ride instead just counting the time - it is obvious that a bike with more travel goes faster downhill and that a bike with less travel goes faster uphill.
