A coat of primer is recommended for the glue to adhere better. I'd guess that it's just an added insurance and it's not absolutely needed. Besides the primer is sooo expensive!

A caulking gun, but you'll want to leave the adhesive to warm up in the sun as its hard to do by hand. Most Professionals use a automatic tool that squeezes for them to get a consistent stream of adhesive.

@@bfdmod I don't know how they got it off the car at the junkyard but they handled that part, I just picked it up and installed it on my car.
