Hi Dutch Rebel, I appreciate your videos on the GMC Motorhome chassis. I live here in Jacksonville Oregon USA and I too am working on a four-wheel version of the same chassis, for use on a front-wheel-drive pickup truck, that I'm currently building . I came across the use of the Ford transit wheels also. You have any photographs of your rear swing arms and how you attach the Ford transit bearings. The ones we have common here in the United States out of five bolt flange. Did you make a simple adapter to attach the five bolt transit bearings to the four bolt flange area on the swing arms. Or something else? And how did you mount the brake caliper mount. As for the front to use Eldorado or Toronado hardware. It's extremely common here in the United States. Again sorry for so many questions, glad to see a chassis that is properly engineered.

Hi Craig, to answer your questions, I used Fiat Ducato rear axle stubs and wheel hubs, these Ducato stub axle have a four hole flange with a larger pitch diameter than the swingarm holes, I've made a flange with stub that fits in the swingarms, this flange also has mounting points for the brake calipers, I welded this flange to the flange of the Ducato axle, I drilled the four holes through both flanges, and mounted it with longer bolts on the swingarms, the Ducato wheel hubs are shorter than the original brake drums, but because of the double flanges, and the different offset of the Ducato rims, the track width has increased by 60 mm, I hope I explained it clearly in this way, let me know if not, good luck with your project.

How is your project going? I was thinking about using the front frame assembling of a dually one ton diesel 1998 ish 4x4 front frame axle transmission transfercase and mating it to the 73-78 chassis and use the same type wheels for the rear.

Is this a stock layout or your custom take on it? i can tell the brakes are aftermarket, but i'm just starting to learn about these beautiful works of engineering
@TheLM19612 жыл бұрын
Yes, the hubs and brakes are Fiat Ducato, the cylinder tank is 200L LPG in the back under a double bed, then the waste water tank is original and in its original place, between the rear wheels is normally two petrol tanks, in this case now an extra waste water tank (for washing machine) and a battery box, then comes the 130L clean water tank, which is normally in the back under the seat, then the front tank 80L reserve patrol tank, engine and exhausts are standard, the original radiator is replaced by an Audi RS6 radiator, which has a greater cooling capacity .
@lattitude012 жыл бұрын
@@TheLM1961 neat, very informative. may i ask how you removed the shell from the frame, i would assume some form of overhead gantry?
@TheLM19612 жыл бұрын
@@lattitude01 Yes, I made an temporary wooden A frame to lift the shell at the front, at the back I used a motor hoist and then rolled the chassis out, in my case the shell was completely emptied, so the weight was minimal.

Erg mooi. Andere remmen ook?
@TheLM19613 жыл бұрын

@TheLM19613 жыл бұрын

how did you take the body off without a car lift.
@TheLM1961 Жыл бұрын
I lifted the back with a motor hoist, for the front I made a wooden A frame with an electric hoist, I used two wooden beams under the floor rafters against the side rails for support, to these beams I attached the hoisting cables, I routed the cables through the ventilation hatch out to the hoist, in my case it was just an empty shell to hoist.

Question....is this a right hand drive or left hand drive GMC? Im assuming right hand as the exhaust is opposite to a left hand drive GMC.
@TheLM19613 жыл бұрын
it is left-handed, new rules (Europe) allows the exhaust to be directed to the center side of the road, instead of all the way to the rear of the vehicle.
