I did this job today on my 2011 Terrain. I can see why the uploader didn't show the actual procedure, it is a tight fit down there. But for those who are going to tackle it. It is basically exactly what he says. If you look down you can see the thermostat housing is being held by two bolts. Just get a long extension and a 10mm and you can get the bolts out. Then wiggle the housing to separate, then simply remove the old and install the new. The hardest part for me was the gasket on the new thermostat is not fixed so it kept coming off right before I placed in the housing and would have to realign and try again. With patience you'll get it. Whole job took 20 min, but 5 of that was getting the new thermostat to seat correctly because of the slipping gasket.

Well thanks for understanding Matt I appreciate it I really wish I would not have made the video, the way I made the video, at the time I thought it was a good idea to show people something that they couldn’t see hindsight being 2020 the next time I get a chance I will remake that video and show people how to get down to it but you are correct it is like a 20 minute job and it’s very simple I thought I was making it easier for people but I suppose not I do appreciate your understanding though

Just did this procedure but mine had a metal pipe partially covering the bolt closer to the back of the engine, used a stubby 10mm wratched wrench for that, trust me u need the 10m wratchet wrench since there’s no space for a socket because of the pipe above it, yes u could technically do this with just a stubby wrench but taking it off and on in that awkward of a position so many times requires a lot of finger strength and requires u to mess with the wrench a lot for every 1/8 of a turn u get, u will possibly be there for hours depending on how good u are with ur fingers and if ur hand even fits because it’s a very tight fit

Also how long do you leave the hose clamped on the heater core hose??? I was confused about that part! Thanks I like your video just need more info!

Well when you try to attempt it you will see why I did not film it because there’s no possible way to film it at least I didn’t feel like there was when I was making the video now that I’m a little bit better at what I do hear on KZbin it’s possible I would guess that I might’ve figured out something but in this situation it was the best I could do

What if my gmc 2014 is overheating n leaking fluid? Is that a radiator hose?
@sharpcarco2 жыл бұрын
No it’s not leaking. They could be a couple of different things the most minor being that the air was not bled out of the system properly, there’s not enough coolant, The radiator has a plug. The thermostat is bad, or the head gasket is bad
@marcelladennison4982 жыл бұрын
@@sharpcarco thank you. Gonna start with changing thermostat then if still leaks I’ll check radiator hose? Is bleeding the air out hard?

I’m sorry about the negative comments you’re getting but it doesn’t take a genius to know where the thermostat is and the bolts 🤷🏽♀️
@ebent242 жыл бұрын
@@marcelladennison498 there is nothing uniform about engines nowadays. The thermostat does not have to be on the back of the engine. Designing an engine is by no means a simple task.

I couldn’t see very well the video was dark , and I’m still unclear as to where the thermostat is located … and for clamping the hose not sure what to clamp with and what does drain look like to drain fluid? I’m new to this mechanics stuff but willing to learn .. not sure if it even my thermostat .. I get heat sometimes and other times it blows cold air when it’s on hot. I’ve replaced both blend door accentuator already .otherwise it was good info, but I could use a bit better visual to see where everything is exactly and how to get to it

This video did not use a pointer of some kind to point to the thermostat housing location; showing the thermostat was ok, but did not show where the thermostat was actually located. Thank you--

Well at least it sounds like you knew kind of what I was talking about… I got a lot of slack for this video. I was just trying to demonstrate that there’s different ways of working on vehicles you don’t always have to see what you’re working on was more of the point of this video than anything else. There’s been tens of thousands of bolts or parts that I could not see because of my visual impairment but I still somehow complete task without being able to see them. Most people did not understand that and give me a very hard time this was the first and only video I made on Trying to explain it to people this way

@@sharpcarco that's understandable and true that you can't always see what you are doing but you could at least have shown parts of the process. Also from looking at someone's 2014 terrain you can access it from the driver side wheel well.

Hello, after watching the video and looking at my Terrain, I think I see what you are getting at. After draining the coolant, If I had a buddy help me could I just undo the bolts and then push the housing off to the side with the hoses still on and hold it out of the way while my buddy replaced the thermostat?
@sharpcarco4 жыл бұрын
Good morning Matthew you won’t believe how I actually easy it is to just push it out of the side without even having a body there to help you. But to be honest it’s not that hard to do you can just move the stuff out of the way I will bring you a video pretty soon showing you how to do it where you can see things I just thought this was simpler and quicker. But a lot of people aren’t like you they don’t have any idea what I’m talking about you just have to be careful not to drop the bolts and you’ll be just fine I’m sure there’s somebody who’s got a clear video that shows you exactly how to get this off by taking the other stuff out of the way which probably doesn’t take very long at all I thought I was doing something constructive in the situation but I get more criticism most of the time so it’s nice to hear somebody say they at least try to get it have a great morning I wish you the best
@matthewdinslage81204 жыл бұрын
@@sharpcarco Yeah, as soon as looked into my 2011 engine bay I recognized the housing I immediately understood what you saying in this video. I will probably just tackle this on my own since you say its easy to move the housing. And a big yes on not losing the bolts. I replaced the battery in my 2011 last January, but during reassembly I dropped a bolt between the radiator and fan shroud. So a 15 min job turned into an hour job lol.
