No need to apologize...in my experience in life, those who complain the most, who find a reason to try and bring you down are usually the people who never do anything for anyone else, and can only find pleasure by trying to bring down someone who has done something kind and noble. Ignore the haters, and keep up the awesome videos!!!!!

Remove the passenger side front wheel and then the plastic inner fender and you can easily access the battery cable and ignition wire to the solenoid, remove the nuts holding the wires on and then remove the starter bolts and the starter will come out easily and the replacement starter will go in easily.

Hey man great how to... I started the job trying to get it done on my own, and had no idea that the dust cover had to come off with it which is what was holding me up on my '06 Denali. That little tid bit saved the day. Now I won't have to worry if my wife's car is going to start the next time she turns the key.

An of topic question. My compressor for the rear shocks (auto leveling) has not come on the last few times I have driven the vehicle. What fuses should I check. I could not find much in the manual? Anything else I should check?

Thank you for the tip on releasing the wires from the ties. I also found that removing the oil dipstick tube gives you a lot of space to work with, especially when installing the new starter.

LOL, I am in the middle of my 2001 Suburban starter replacement and it was a BEAR getting it out...took 2 days of playing with it ...now I cant seem to find the angle to get it back in...day 3 but I am thinking of cutting that wire tie like you suggest because the wire bundle is just too stiff to move the starter in and out. Good to see I am not the only one who wrestled with that stupid wire...I might be the only one to spend 3 days on it though...
@TheRykerDane

ya I know, that wire bundle really makes it hard to move it around in there. Can be aggravating. glad you got it fixed though and saved some money!

Thank you for this video, the tips with the clips were spot on. I did everything correct but the starter wouldn't come out until I cut those clips. What would have been an hour job turned into an all day project. Due to the fact of those darn clips not giving me the dang clearance I need. Again thank you for this, this video. It wasn't long but it was very helpful.

For folks looking at this in the future, you can get lots of wiggle room by unbolting the oil dipstick from the engine, and pulling it completely out.

@IndiMusicman yes, you probably get a message like service ride control. Usually this message comes on and off randomly. These trucks are known to do that. Just check your fuse box that says ride control or air ride. And also check your tire pressure too. But many times it can be on how the vehicle is parked when shut off or started. The vehicle adjust to level itself.

There is a bundle of wires that is wrapped in tape. That bundle is attached to the frame with zip ties or a similiar piece of plastic that keeps it close to the frame and not dangling around. You just want to cut that zip tie or connector piece so that you can move that bundle of wire and be able to move the starter a lot easier. Hope that helps.

if you have to you can always tap on the starter or solenoid to get it unstuck.

Just did this myself, here are some tips.. REMOVE battery cables FIRST! and then you need a: #8 or 5/16 (deep), 10, 13, (13 DEEP SOCKET) and maybe a 14 mm plus a few extensions. the #8 or 5/16 socket should be deep and preferably the 1/4" ratchet size. All others can be the 3/8" ratchet size but I did find the #10 to be easier in the 1/4" size as well. Large bolts holding the starter on are 13mm.. When re-installing DO NOT crank down too tight on the power or signal wires that go on the solenoid or you can easily brake it! be gentle as you are removing it, if it's not coming out you are likely hitting the trans lines, trans dipstick, the block, the oil sensor etc... but it does and will pull out with ease, back first, then wire end up, then gear side that was in the flywheel should face down, at that point you will be able to undo the smaller signal wire first, then the main larger power wire. Also, remember to clean the ring connectors with a wire brush or a little sand paper if needed for a better connection before re-installing.

Any chance you'd redo the video showing all the steps? I'm about to change my starter on a 2003 Yukon XL Denali and I like your videos, in fact, I watched your video on replacing the rotors and pads, it motivated me to do them myself. Plus the fuel pump needs to be changed as well. Thanks in advance.

I do have one question... I am trying like H#!! to get the starter out, and in your video you mention cutting the wire to the battery free as it maybe wired down to a part of frame... I can't see up in there to be able to do that... and it seems there is a larger set of wires blocking the starter from moving forward to tilt it up and out of bell housing... any thoughts or tips on this?... Thanks! John M...

Yep that bundle of wires is attached to the frame with like a zip tie and plastic plug that holds it on the frame. You just need to cut that zip tie off so that it can loosen up and give you extra slack. hope it works

I have a 2003 yukon that has a no crank no start I replaced the batteries and check the fuse still no start but when I wiggle the top engine wires it start but I wiggle all so I can't tell which one that started it which wires should I look into first that might be causing start problems
@TheRykerDane

+linda johnson are you talking about the battery cable wires you wiggle? or what wires are you wiggling?
@TheRykerDane
@TheRykerDane 11 жыл бұрын
oh I know what you mean, it really does suck. You have to either try and wedge your hands in there and get the right size wrench on there. I found that you need a deepwell socket it you use that method. otherwise you need to just force the starter out of the hole and pull down so you can get the wires off. Also remember that you need to pull off the zip ties that attach to the frame. These keep everything from moving, and makes everything so tight. hope that helps!

I watched this because I was trying to figure out if the starter is attached in any way to the transmission. Looks like it is. I just had my clutch replaced and now sometimes the starter gets stuck and can't turn the motor. Never happened before the replacement.

I replace the starter for my car GMC yukon 1996 but when I put it back my battery cable how come my Engine started to crank up by it self. I check my Ignition switch if it's on but it's not on also. Someone told me that I needed to change my Ignition switch, It's that possible if I change my Ignition switch well fixed the problem of my car.

I replaced the starter in my 2004 for some reason now a doesn't want to start. I can tell the starters good but it just won't crank over all the way and start up what should I do a?
@TheRykerDane
@TheRykerDane 12 жыл бұрын
Yes I was having to get the vehicle jumped, and then it finally would not start. Sorry that I was not able to show the whole thing, but it is pretty easy to remove and replace after that point. If your vehicle does not start, check battery, connections, relay fuses first. Or it is also possible the starter gear can be locked up on the flywheel and you have to jiggle it free. But if that happens this will be a sign that your starter is going bad. thanks for watching!
