I’m still so happy I hung onto my original Hero Quest from the 90s. But this new box looks really good that I’m contemplating buying. I’ve been very happy Hasbro has been making expansions.

@@superspecky4eyes Loved both of them, as they offered very different experiences. It would always come down to what we were in the mood for; Mines of Moria or Hadley's Hope. D&D or Space Hulk.

@@stevenray8737 Yeah, I see. I just preferred the more narrative experience of HQ compared to the more skirmish gameplay of SC. HQ sparked my imagination much more.

The game is fun, the cost of this product is fantastic, but for some reason it's the dice tray that just makes me happy.

I don’t own First Light yet but if I get it I’ll use small labels to mark special monsters. Stat increases, skills or abilities, and the Named Characters is quests.

I've been really looking forward to this release. The price point is amazing, and the cave board is sooo cool! Love the new hero miniatures as well! Great review, Ash!

Hey Ash, a guy named Gravaillon released a 50 cards mod to play almost all Heroquest quest randomised (15 for the base game and 5 by expansion from memory). That makes the game playable solo/coop without the app. And it works perfectly ! Avaible in english and french !

I have been so torn about Heroquest up to this point! I have the original box set (fully painted in the 90's by a 13 year old me, even!!) to introduce my 8 and 10yo kids to the game, but to get and use all the new expansions, I would have to re-buy the core set with all the quests my kids will have already played with my old set. Except now... with First Light, I won't have to feel as guilty about re-buying something I already own. Even the flat cardstock terrain isn't so bad, as I can just use the terrain from my old box set on top of the new templates so they will fit the new-sized grid for my kids to understand which spaces they occupy.

LOVE this review Ash! Also, when time allows, I would love to see your thoughts on HeroQuest: Spirit Queen's Torment and also the Path of the Wandering Monk! Both have some crazy new dynamics never seen before in any other Heroquest expansions or characters!

I preordered this for my kids. I never played HeroQuest as a child, but I would have been all over a box like this. I'm a super slow 3D printer/painter, and I reason that if they really latch on, I can gradually update/improve the experience with Dragon's Rest terrain and Primal Collectible or Monstrous Encounters figures.

This will be great to update my original 1989 Heroquest, complete despite played with kids(3 boys) alot, like Ash a single dad, from Heroquest and Space Crusade progressed to Necromunda, WH40k, LoTR (GW), Battletech ...... now all grown and we still game KDM a favourite but still interested in the older games.

It’s on my to buy list. On the DM screen it comes with slightly adjusted rules over the 2020 release in keeping with the updated rule book. It’s great that the 4 hero’s are in different poses to the new release sculptures that’s still different to the 4 mythic resculpts. For me, the extra cards will come in handy with certain missions that give you extras or to help with armoury buys. I “love” the top down of the room scatter, it adds to the atmosphere brilliantly.

Still have the Original Furniture from GW's release(ish) still have the Fimir, and Goblins and Orcs. Lost the other miniatures over the years. Bought the new set not long ago. The creatures from the black lagoon miniatures look fun to paint.

Not from the written rules. But a guy named Gravaillon released a mod of 50 cards to randomise almost all the quests. It works incredibly well ! English and French version.

I had settled on never really going to buy any of the HQ because I figured im so far behind in buying the original ,as its expensive, but then the new big edition with all the expansion scenarios I dont really want to spend all that money on catching up, but this new intro version I had just learned about yesterday I think seriously about picking up as cheap of offer on some website as I can, or just go out to Target and get it and not have to pay shipping and have it sooner. but you are correct in that this will probably get a lot of new HQ players buying this if they are like me in my sentiments. because at 200$ including the big base and other expansions, I couldnt legitimize the cost as Id never play it enough by myself or find enough friends to want to play it,but at such a low cost for so much,then I have to reconsider.

I compare this into set to Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. Some have complained about the lack of plastic mini's, but i don't think thats a problem. I've never heard similar complaints about JotL. I think this will be a great way to get casual gamers into HeroQuest!

I was thinking about buying the big box heroquest, but this is way better for me, because i already have a ton of minis from other games. I could already replace the cardboard minis. Not to mention if you buy the expansions especially the small box ones you will have the required amount of them.

Hey Ash Just a few requests / ideas for the channel as it's christmas from a long time fan! 1) A Laserburn battle report. Not sure if you've done this but would be great to see it compared to more modern wargames and see what the differences are. 2) A Legion Imperialis Battle Report, but one with LOTS of Titans. The Titan rules actually work pretty well in LI, but the Titans are generally overcosted, particularly the cheaper ones. You can remedy this by saying both sides have to spend a certain amount of points on the great warmachines (50%? And must take some Warhounds or Reavers?), and that way even if the game is a high points value it still shouldn't take too long. 3) Another great 40k 2nd edition BR! There is a big renaissane online happening with 2e and it would be really fun to see something like a Space Marine v space Marine report. That way the Balance would be ok. 4) Trench Crusade. 'nough said. I'll probably think of some more later. Thanks for producing such great content dude. Best
