…and he consistently shows that he can outplay most players most of the time. Modern computers are so powerful that ALL games played between them would likely end in a draw. But luckily humans are not computers and Magnus has always shown clever and creative ways, not only to take opponents out of book, but also bamboozle them into making mistakes at critical moments. In an era of incredible computer prep Magnus has demonstrated with great success the value of chess insight combined with a grasp of human psychology. Magnus has excelled at classical, rapid, blitz, and even bullet chess. Hikaru is still the king of bullet, but Magnus gave him a run for his money recently.

The psychological element of players missing Magnus blunders reminds me a bit of Novak Djokovic in tennis. It's really hard to shake the idea that Magnus never makes mistakes, and you don't look for them. His reputation can cause opponents to almost beat themselves in critical moments.

that happens in any level where both players don't see a winning line, so it just doesn't affect the game. To take advantage of the blunder you need to see something that Magnus missed, which is very rare. Of course the computer will always see it.

Incredible video. Hikaru always manages to pack so much quality analysis into a such a short time. His excellent understanding of the geometric aspects of the game combined with valuable insights into the psychological aspects of the game provide a valuable understanding of modern chess. Congratulations to both players for an entertaining game. I’m sure that Abasov will recover and continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of chess. But part of me still hopes that Magnus will crown a remarkable career by winning the one major that has so far eluded him.

computer doesnt always give "real" evaluation. because its counting straight forward computer moves and dont take in to consideration way that humans play. People can make variations and moves that look stupid at the moment but they might know what opponent is thinking about that move and then creating maybe pressure or something that the game turns out to be something else thats making sense

Magnus said during post match analysis with FIDE CHESS : "I'll probably throw this game away but take the result for sure" 😂😂 Probably, Magnus' innovative moves right from the opening took Abasov a bit off-guard and he went a bit defensive all the way...
