I mean, I'm genuinely glad that Hikaru feels that way. When I first encountered him on the internet I saw his very serious side. Then, I watched him streaming and doing fun stuffs and I have realized that he's a funny and entertaining guy who has a very high-level and creative of chess knowledge.

@@santespro There's also the fact Hikaru is better at making his 1400 opponent's life hard and making him blunder. On the flip side, if the 1400 plays against a 500, he will look like a GM.

It's why I'm working on my art than studying chess at this point. I can improve my art skills but it's very difficult to improve my chess skills. I remember the story "The Five Rings" Musashi Miyamoto who was the best samurai in Japan retired and took up painting. He passed down his wisdom in his writings. If he remained a samurai he would eventually meet his death from a younger quicker opponent. We are grateful that he retired. Even his paintings of birds are still amazingly beautiful.

I've just started getting into chess a bit. I beat the 1600 elo on my chess app a few times and moved up to 1800. Huge difference lol I feel like I can notice when I'm at a decent advantage but then I make 1 mistake or 1 blunder and then the game falls off a cliff. Hikaru's gameplay of chess is incredibly impressive

for everyone confused at 2:03, Qxb7 was a good move. After Rb8, a choice for white is to play Rc5, which threatens mate that black has to lose a queen to survive. This is very hard to see but white could also play Nxg6, Rxb7. After queen trade white could simply play Nxh8 and win a full rook. The Knight will be able to get out later. Even if it's trapped it's at least knight for a rook+pawn.

No it's not mate at all bcs the bishop from g4 takes the queen and the rook with the knight is not going to checkmate you on the second file while your opponent is a queen up bcs worst case scenario he sacks the queen and he's a piece up.

When it's your turn, put yourself in your opponents shoes and ask yourself what you would play, if it were his turn again. Can you take a piece for free? If not make a move that attacks something of his. There's a good chance he wont notice it's attacked.
