The sixth trap hardly counts, as the Short-Kasparov game was a themed exhibition game. Kasparov was forced to play black in the position after the horrible 3...Qh4+?! and 4...b5? (both of which he would of course never play). After the position had been set up, Kasparov wanted to resign right away, since, as he said "Black is already lost." Due to the spectators, this was not granted, and he had to play. Grudgingly, then, he did so for a few moves and then resigned.

Yeah, the first five moves were dictated by the organisers of the exhibition, and, just to add for the benefit of those who don't recognise them, they're taken from the so called Immortal Game played between Adolf Anderssen and Lionel Kieseritzky in 1851.

For the second trap shown, 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc66 . . 3 Be2 Bc5? 4 Nxe5 NxNe5 5 d4 . . . 5 . . . Bxd4 6 QxBd4 Rather then the loosing pawn move analyzed at this point in the game, why can't Black simply play 6 . . . Qf3 This threatens a Knight check by Black uncovering an attack to Whites unprotected Queen. Pretty sure White can deal with this, but not in any way that can cause Black significant worries so the opening trap gets defused and play can proceed with near equality. Am low rated so certainly could be missing something and if so, would love to be enlightened by superior analysis of this proposed move. Thanks for all your excellent chess tutorials GM Smirnov, they are always informative and fun!

Anand didn't fall into the trap necessarily due to not noticing it, he assumed that due to the same line leading to a draw in a game by Miles and Christiansen, that it must be safe, but actually that game was a prearranged draw, and Miles saw the winning move, but didn't play it to honor the prearranged draw (which was against the rules of course). Anand thought it was safe since Miles didn't get any advantage out of the position, but neither player was playing for advantage.

I've only ever reached 1900-2000 level at USCF chess, but I can provide amateurs better ways to play the opening than this.

White exchanges queens, is up a pawn, has two bishops in an open position, has a strong centre and is a pawn up and can also pin the Knight with the light bishop and then mess up blacks pawn structure. It's still a definite advantage for white.

I really don't get resigning on move 6. You're playing a human so anything could happen. The other guy could make a serious blunder later in the game. I play like a pilot. He flies the plane all the way till he crashes and burns. He never stops trying to get out of the spin.

It really depends on the level of play you are currently playing on mostly. At anything below master level you can lose a piece and play on just fine, but at the super GM level in which anand plays his opponent would definitely know how to take every possible advantage out of the missing knight so losing that piece for nothing is a losing disadvantage in that case
