Hey Liberian, hope you see this. I know you were disappointed with the water room, but gives a creepy realization that ‘something’ was living inside that isolated pool for god knows how long, only to be awakened by the noises of the metro beside it. It destroyed everything in its path until it got the surface. The toppled subway cars being only a glimpse at how powerful it was. You being only one means it consumed absolutely everyone. It really leaves it up to your imagination. Whether it was an ancient eldritch horror, or an unfathomable beast laying dormant underground. It really reminds me of the frogs who go into stasis during droughts. They usually cover themselves in a mucus and stay there for years in a near-dead state.

if I may add to that, I think the reason why there's house on top of so many building like water tower was the last hideout from the creature that attack people on the surface. Like last defense home. The map is really neat with all clue and direction of the map build up.

I talked a little bit about this at the end. It's certainly a good way to go about it, considering that this is first and foremost an RP map, so having a monster down there would just make it into another map feature, once people became aware of it. The feeling of having missed something actually works for the better in this instance. Just what could have done this? And if it's not here... where is it?

ahhh, RP_Bangclaw, my old friend. Used to play on a lawless DarkRP server where the only real rules where No Cheating and whatever the Dictator (mayor replacement) put in as a law was enforced completely. I started a hobo cult down there in the muddy water pit room, we worshiped the default burger and hotdog models from a model pack. Good times. The underground was one of the few places that was moderately safe from either cops messing with your plans or other players raiding your buildings; it was so difficult to actually assault the underground that they ended up adding a cop role that specifically was for fighting underground, spawned down there with a shotgun. It was fun patrolling around down there with some buddies, went on a meth lab raid when we found a locked door that went on for like 20 minutes.
@stocks10663 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, there were even zombie roles that could only go out at night, one time the cops ended up barricading the metro exit because so many people went zombies because it was so strong at first. They had a firing line and everything, it was hilarious to fight against.

Hey there! This was truly entertaining to watch, and it warms my heart knowing people still find joy from all the effort that went into the creation of it! Thanks to everyone who's played it over the years! The map sure had several phases and states of mind while making it, initially made as a map for the DarkRP server i had, with buildings and locations based on the available jobs and content. The "water tower" is what served as the building for the radio operator (streaming music through radio devices). While the desert area looks open, it as just as you guessed barriered off with invisible walls. The idea here was to make the map seem and appear way bigger than it was, to give a better sense of a city than a town while still trying to keep the map performant. The base outside the city served as a military base on my server, and was intentionally disconnected from the town to keep it as a "high-security" location, where getting to it unauthorized would prove a challenge. The underground was meant to be very confusing layout-wise to serve as a get-away for criminals chased by police, giving them a way to escape the law. We also used to have events back on that server called "Hobo hunt" which is something that also took place in said underground and also factored in to its confusing layout. At some point however while making that underground, with our "Hobo hunt" event in mind, it spiraled out of control you could say. The idea was to create a really creepy atmosphere to put the people who went down there to hunt them on edge, but it sure went darker and further than that. The large room at the very end was initially more extensive, as the map did not end there. It was a large amount of dug-out tunnels that lead you further down to some horrific discoveries and more, but at the time, there was only so much one could do on a single map before hitting limits and causing it to crash and not compile properly. I decided to cut out that part in exchange for more detail above ground and also into the just-below-surface tunnels. Eventually that tied it together into a story of an seemingly innocent town that got abandoned by the locals in fear due to a horror that very few have seen and able to tell the story about, appearing from the underground, that still to this day may or may not haunt the city occasionally. And for those who are unlucky to be there when it does? Thats for them to tell, if they make it out ... (Edited in some more context, as i did not have time when i initially wrote the comment)
@Xenobork2 жыл бұрын
Would love to see a "director's cut" of this map. Or like, somehow finding an old build that had more past the pool room. The contrast of the underground and the city is really well done, and honestly unmatched in terms of creating tension in GM imo. Horror maps set the precedent that it'll be creepy right out the door. This functions and is branded as just an ordinary city RP map though. If I downloaded this and just happened upon the underground with no prior knowledge, I'd legit think I'm the protag of a creepypasta or something. Especially when the lower levels establish some really good show-don't-tell design on a little story about the hubris of man.

I'm so torn on this video. From a horror perspective, there's so much to talk about with this map. And I'd normally be completely down for that. But the DarkRP nerd in me just finds this super grating. At least for the surface area bits. This map wasn't designed to feel eerie and uncanny, it was meant to be a fun city layout for roleplay. Like, the desert area. I get the slightly uncanny nature. But to me, it isn't creepy at all. I know the exact design philosophy behind it. It's an intentionally separate bit from the map, that's open to be used in a ton of different ways. It can function as a military base, or an outlaw town, or a prison mining camp, or anything else that could benefit from being outside of the main city area. It's got multiple entrance/exits that make it hard to fully defend. But it's also completely flat and open, which makes it just as hard to _raid._ You can see everywhere in the desert from that little outpost building. It's a super interesting strategic spot. The flat open nature also makes it a very good spot to just build things in, sandbox style. On a similar note, that tower isn't uncanny to me at all. Sure, it's not super realistic. It's meant to _look_ vaguely reminiscent of a water tower, but it's actually building for some reason. But from a design perspective? It's one of the most interesting buildings on the map. Sure, being able to see it from the mall skylight _looks_ cool. But it's also very intentional. The building is designed for complete sniper coverage. You can see nearly every part of the map, except some odd corners, and _directly below._ One of the only buildings in its line of sight with genuine cover... is the PD. Windows are unbreakable, and there's multiple exits. Plus, having full coverage of the map also means the entire map can see _you,_ so it's risky. Everyone knows what you're _literally_ up to. Stuff like that just stops me from thinking in terms of horror. I played on that map for years, in the way it was designed. It's one of the absolute best maps at doing what it does. But yeah, the sewers are scary as hell. And very intentionally so.

Loved this video. The DarkRP server I played most in 2011-2012 switched to this map at some point, and legends quickly spread of the underground section. It was too complex to sufficiently enforce laws there. I remember there'd sometimes be squads of police that form up specifically to clear just that one part of the map out of printers. Additionally, the remote town outside tended to be lawless too. I have a game suggestion that I don't think I've seen yet: 7 Days to Die without enemy spawns. The houses feel generally lived-in for being randomly generated from presets. The houses are set up to allow both linear & nonlinear exploration, since you can mine the blocks. There is a variety of ambient sounds that can inform you of your surroundings, or misdirect. The game is a mixed bag of quality, but I think this particular kind of exploration could get along with your content. There is also a huge variety of prefab buildings to see, should one be uninteresting. (Minor spoilers: Even the most mundane houses can be littered with traps and areas dedicated to zombie ambushes. There are also a lot of secret item staches. Together, it makes for a feeling that you were expected to enter the site, and that there is something to be seen at the end.)

Seeing all these maps being abandoned, as someone who played them pretty extensively in multiple gametypes 5-6 years ago, the vibe isn't really 'creepy' per say, it just feels lonely. Sometimes you have moments when you freak out, I don't know why they come, maybe some nostalgia in the subconscious, but for the most part, it's just waiting for someone else to break up the boredom, or something interesting to make you feel not alone. Neither of which ever happen. But you remember when they did.

[Edit: Fair warning, this is long-winded, so you can feel free to ignore this and only read the first bit, if even that.] Ah, Bangclaw. I've been in more than a few DarkRP servers that use this map. And your comment on using the underground for the more...unsavoury bits, is spot on. Honestly though, I personally never explored too deep into those areas, as I felt it wasn't needed, as I preferred to roam around. Glad you see you did enjoy looking about the map, as it's a lot more unique than most of the typical RP/DarkRP maps. Also, a future hint with exploring large maps, if you know how to use the toolgun in the addon, (If it works) a good idea with maps like that where you're unsure if you've explored is to set up lights using it, having various colors set up. Sometimes to mark parts you want to explore later, or dead-ends that you know you've explored but feel like you may accidentally walk into later on. I did notice that you missed some side-paths, but most of them are just to homes, apartments, dead-end alleys, ect. It was a popular thing to use that base outside the map in the desert as a mega-base with multiple people in it. As for the building with the locked doors, you were spot on, that is indeed the police-station, or is in most maps. Sadly thought this map wasn't always the most popular, as the 'usual' maps are more used (Like Downtown and others), or custom ones for servers who wanted their own iconography of groups on them. Which is a shame, as, from what you've seen, it's a really big and complex map with a lot of hidey-holes for...'grey area' workers to hide out in. Anyway, sorry for the essay, it's just that I really like this map, and am pretty happy you ended up taking a look at it, as it's a blast from the past.

My man 😎 I'm the guy from another video (not sure if you saw it) who mentioned that I always liked bringing younger RP players down to the depths of this map to dart away in the dark and leave them stranded alone without any sense of where to move to next. Because I'm *_evil_* like that I guess. But this is why I love this map more than any other for light RP game modes. rp_downtown and all it's ripoffs have nothing on this map because of it's underground alone. It just adds so much depth (pun kinda-sorta intended) to the map that has yet to be matched in any meaningful way.

If you didn't know, this actually inspired a whole horror map that just re-uses the whole underground section an places a dynamic npc that hunts you down through the whole thing while you solve puzzles, it's really cool, it's on the workshop under the name "tunnel vision"- be warned, it's really difficult haha

Hi again Lib, Im still Raine from Discord, sadly I deleted my Garry's mod due to having too many exceptions, but I will be still watching your good videos, so the Rp_Bangclaw feels like a lonely place just like the most popular Town that created by the dead author from Steam few years ago

Having just been through an exception phase, make sure that all your important crap is safely stored off your computer. My computer crapped itself about a month after I started having fatal exception blue-screens and died. If exceptions means something completely different then, uh, sorry for the bother.

I think this was the very first map on which I had this spooky feeling.

If I had the chance to I would go down there and act like a mental patient in the dark with no light on and use a voice changer. I have the feeling the sounds down there were added later because when people started saying it was haunted he said he put "something" down there even though he could've been lying just to play along unless I'm thinking of rp_downtown

@5:00 it almost looks like a Soviet Cultural Palace, which is really neat for a map that is clearly supposed to be Eastern European.

I loved to hide my belongings there in the sewers since few people go in there. However, it was very unnerving for me to encounter this place first time when I was searching for the criminal hiding in there.

23:35 if you look at it from above it's not actually a room, it's a lot of large bricks all placed close together.
