I don't mind Gnar not having a super in depth story. He's a furry little gremlin from prehistoric times who likes to throw his boomerang and sometimes turn into an unstoppable killing machine. He's simple and fun and that's all he really needs to be. Also his dinosaur skin is the cutest skin in the game and I dare anyone to challenge that fact.

I like that idea, but Heimer is too linked to the past and the rune wars at this point. And Rumble is the "brilliant but too poor/too low social status to be successful" archetype, so him being from the future is a tad weird.

gnar is an interesting character to me because he released when i was still getting into the game (my account was, like, level 10 or something). i remember everyone who played him in my games trying to figure out what lane he went in (he's ranged right? well he goes botlane. wait, uh, he has a melee mode so that doesnt really work. uhh...)

@@TrueAterLupus I know explaining the joke is wrong - but there was an SNL skit called "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer" - so to me a legendary joke skin like that would be awesome - especially if he comments about the horrible crimes of resident bad guys in Runeterra. As to him getting a _lore skin_ interacting with Modern Runeterra? I don't know if he can be worked in any better than Rengar and whatever led to him being in Sentinels of Light. I think it is important to shorten the scope on some characters, like Kled for example, where they stay in their respective territories. I mean right now we have multiple world ending threats going on in Runeterra and Yasuo seems to want to be in all of them with Riven. Gnar staying Gnar in the Freljord, when he has Braum and the whole local line up to play off of, I think should be explored first before he goes near Bandle City. Again, that's just my opinion and I admit I'm probably suffering from burnout with stories that go nowhere while territories stagnate or characters are forgotten in storylines that should involve them.

@@Ani_Thari I vaguely got the reference before you explained it, ultimately it would only be a lore skin in the same sense that Noxus poppy is a lore skin. Not cannonical, just something that would be a different in universe take on the champ. Zero expectations for them to do something like that, but would be kinda neat seeing a non-primitive verison of gnar.

I always bring up the point that gnar isnt a yordle. He is a ancestor to yordles to the same way early humans like homo erectus or Neanderthals but we are homo sapiens. Gnar needs his own classification.

Gnar was always a pick in pro play not only because how safe he is, and how much he offers to team fights, but one of the main things. He can survive lane alone. You don't have to touch a gnar lane, Gnar is going to do what gnar does which is poke at the top laner when his mini, and trade when hes big, and he can get away from ganks on his own. Hes self sufficient one of the best top laners to just leave alone, and in pro play JG never want to play to top side. They dont want a top laner they have to baby sit so Gnar is just a easy pick, good into all the meta melee pick, can hold his own, and more useful in team fights.

About prehistoric pocket in Bandle City, that's basically where the prehistoric yordles are, they all live in a sky island in BC. You should look at Nakotak Valley concept art, that's where all his follower cards take place though i don't think it's pocket dimension just that time is weird in BC.

I started playing when Lissandra was released. I realized I still consider Gnar fairly new until I looked back and remembered that my friend in college was telling me how playing Gnar was carrying him to play. I graduated college in 2015. I'm fucking old. And I still play this game. Lol it's very strange but I understand that, because I'm comfortable with it, I keep playing it. I'm also not angry and toxic so I manage to still enjoy the game lol On that note, I still think Sett and Yone are new champs. 😵‍💫

I feel like they can easily explain the prehistoric yordles by having it be gnar trying to put the yetis into the bandlewoods to protect them however lissandra gets there to the yetis first and uses the true ice whilst the portal is open freezing a big chunk of the bandlewood, therefore badabing badaboom a big bunch of prehistoric yordles. Also ye lissandra is just that old, the watchers were frozen in 8000BN whilst we're currently in like 1000AN she's a prehistoric icicle

I do play a decent amount of gnar, and to me, (atleast game play wise) he feels exactly like you described:good. he doesnt have any terrible matchups or any real stomp. He is a ranged character top but his range scales with time and he doesnt feel as sinful as a vayne top. The reasons you play him a as cut and clear as you'd think: fun time doing flashy ults, being a quick and nimble ranged champ whilst having a juggernaut background. In a sense gnar just.... well wears everything on his sleeves(or lack there off). what you get is exactly what you see, as honest and direct as that can be. He has a bunch of simple tools in his kit but nothing impossible to outplay or work around and same goes for him. I essentially play him knowing its going to be as down to earth as it can be ( i know, feels weird to say when playing a ranged top). As for the lore though..... yeah my boi needs some help fitting. He might need some change on his side as changing the world to make him fit doesnt seem to perfectly gel right now. He does have endless comical potential though.

So best way I can explain the situation with Yordles and why there is no future sci-fi Yordles, is cause they are a product of the times. All Yordles are a type of short furry beast spirit. The concept of ages is tricky, and they may well be pseudo-immortal, but its likely whenever they're born, they'll continue to retain that era of time's values/culture so to speak. As for why Gnar seems to be a gibber-jabber talking little furry gremlin, is because... when he was frozen and preserved on the day Lissandra betrayed her sisters to stop the watchers, he was only 4 years old.

Fun fact; August recently went on record as saying Gnar is his worst designed champion. Personally, I like Gnar and think August’s portfolio has much more of a lot worse… But I actually really like the idea of a little pocket of prehistory in Bandle City, perhaps that they could have scooped up to preserve. I would actually like to see another prehistoric yordle that was taken to Piltover and learned to be modern and use technology. That said, I don’t really mind Gnar existing as just a little guy doing his own thing. He’s a good representative for a Freljord yordle with his primal energy and long fur, bones and whatnot. Interestingly we haven’t seen another Freljord based yordle to compare to though

I think how they could fix gnars lore is by changing his origin time. Maybe he could be on runetera when the Rune wars took place and the yordles who were alive then hid in Bandlecity but he got frozen before he could return. The Primate Yorldes in Bandlecity could just natrualy evolve and develop to the way they are now, but since gnar was frozen for all those years he didnt evovle or develop. If you ask me this would make him fit a bit better.

He was in proplay, cause at the time, the items complimented the gremlin enough that he wasn't a liability. This season, no..... he lost all his core item builds that allowed him to shine, and certain champion *coughs* Aatrox *coughs* are just so much more broken and could abuse a single misplay.

i feel like comparing gnar to quinn is unfair beacuse mini gnar has a pretty small auto attack range,most dashes are just as long as it is his dash while a strong escape tool has a big cooldown and mini gnar has no forms of cc,mega gnar does has a ton of cc but he loses the mobility that he once had so you have to set up mega gnar combos before hand

I mean, if you take the concept of 'pre history' literally, it's just the time before history was recorded in any way. Given the nature of the Freljord, I'd say they could conceivably put Gnar around the time of the myths of the creation of the Freljord and it would be just fine.
